(A psalm by David when he was in the desert of Judah.) / God's Love Means More than Life You are my God. I worship you. In my heart, I long for you, as I would long for a stream in a scorching desert.
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; |
I have seen your power and your glory in the place of worship. | To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
Your love means more than life to me, and I praise you. | Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
As long as I live, I will pray to you. | Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
I will sing joyful praises and be filled with excitement like a guest at a banquet. | My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
I think about you, God, before I go to sleep, and my thoughts turn to you during the night. | When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
You have helped me, and I sing happy songs in the shadow of your wings. | Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
I stay close to you, and your powerful arm supports me. | My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
All who want to kill me will end up in the ground. | But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
Swords will run them through, and wild dogs will eat them. | They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
Because of you, our God, the king will celebrate with your faithful followers, but liars will be silent. | But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
