| 1 | The titil of the thre and sixtithe salm. `In Ebrewe thus, To the victorie, the salm of Dauid. `In Jerom `thus, To the ouercomer, the song of Dauid. | O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; |
| 2 | God, here thou my preier, whanne Y biseche; delyuere thou my soule fro the drede of the enemy. | To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. |
| 3 | Thou hast defendid me fro the couent of yuele doers; fro the multitude of hem that worchen wickidnesse. | Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. |
| 4 | For thei scharpiden her tungis as a swerd, thei benten a bowe, a bittir thing; | Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. |
| 5 | for to schete in priuetees hym that is vnwemmed. | My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: |
| 6 | Sodeynli thei schulen schete hym, and thei schulen not drede; thei maden stidefast to hem silf a wickid word. Thei telden, that thei schulden hide snaris; thei seiden, Who schal se hem? | When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. |
| 7 | Thei souyten wickidnessis; thei souyten, and failiden in sekinge. A man neiyhe to deep herte; | Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. |
| 8 | and God schal be enhaunsid. The arowis of `litle men ben maad the woundis of hem; | My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. |
| 9 | and the tungis of hem ben maad sijk ayens hem. Alle men ben disturblid, that sien hem; | But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. |
| 10 | and ech man dredde. And thei telden the werkis of God; and vndurstoden the dedis of God. | They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes. |
| 11 | The iust man schal be glad in the Lord, and schal hope in hym; and alle men of riytful herte schulen be preisid. | But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. |
