|---|---|---|
¶ Ol dispela tu i ol provep bilong Solomon, dispela ol man bilong Hesekaia, king bilong Juda, i wokim kopi long en. | These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
¶ Em i glori bilong God bilong haitim samting. Tasol ona bilong ol king em bilong painimaut samting. | It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
Antap bilong heven, na dip bilong graun long, na bel bilong ol king em ol samting man i no inap painimaut. | The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
¶ Tekewe pipia long silva, na wanpela sospen samting bai kam ausait bilong man i wok long rausim pipia. | Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
Tekewe man nogut long ai bilong king, na bai sia king bilong em i kamap strong long stretpela pasin. | Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
¶ No ken putim yu yet long go ausait long pes bilong king, na no ken sanap long ples bilong ol bikman. | Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
Long wanem, em i mobeta long ol i tokim yu, Kam antap long hia, long ol i mas putim yu long ples daun long pes bilong hetman husat tupela ai bilong yu i bin lukim pinis. | For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
¶ No ken go ausait hariap long pait, nogut yu no save long wanem samting yu bai mekim long pinis bilong en, taim man i stap klostu long yu i bin mekim yu sem. | Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
Tok pait long wari bilong yu wantaim man i stap klostu long yu em yet. Na no ken kamapim ples klia tok hait long narapela. | Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
Nogut em husat i harim dispela i mekim yu sem, na nem nogut bilong yu i no lusim yu. | Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
¶ Tok man i autim long taim stret em i olsem ol epel gol long ol piksa silva. | A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Olsem ring gol bilong ia, na bilas ol i wokim long naispela gol, saveman bilong stretim man i stap olsem tasol long ia bilong bihainim tok. | As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
¶ Olsem kol bilong ais long taim bilong kamautim kaikai, mausman yu inap bilip long em em i olsem long ol man husat i salim em. Long wanem, em i strongim gen tewel bilong ol bikman bilong em. | As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
¶ Husat man i tok hambak long em yet i gat giaman presen em i olsem ol klaut na win i no gat ren. | Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
¶ Long pasin bilong stap isi longpela taim, man inap senisim tingting bilong hetman, na tang i tok isi i brukim bun. | By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
¶ Ating yu painim hani pinis, a? Kaikai hamas i inap long yu tasol, nogut yu pulap long en, na trautim dispela. | Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
¶ Tekewe lek bilong yu long haus bilong man i stap klostu long yu. Nogut em i les tru long yu, na long dispela em i no laikim tru yu. | Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
¶ Man husat i stap giaman witnes i birua long man i stap klostu long em, em i bikpela hama, na bainat, na spia i sap. | A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
¶ Strongpela bilip long man yu no inap putim bilong long em long taim bilong hevi em i olsem wanpela tit i bruk na wanpela skru bilong fut i lus. | Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
¶ Olsem em husat i tekewe klos long taim bilong kol, na olsem vinega i mekim long naita, em husat i singim ol song long man i bel hevi em i stap olsem tasol. | As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
¶ Sapos birua bilong yu i hangre, givim bret long em bilong kaikai. Na sapos em i hangre long wara, givim wara long em bilong dring. | If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
Long wanem, yu bai hipim ol hatpela sakol antap long het bilong em, na BIKPELA bai givim pe long yu. | For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.
¶ Win i kam long hap not i rausim ren i go. Olsem tasol pes i belhat i rausim i go tang i tok hait bilong daunim man. | The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
¶ Em i mobeta long stap long kona antap long haus, long stap wantaim meri bilong pait na insait long haus i gat bikpela brait. | It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
¶ Olsem ol kol wara long tewel i hangre long wara, olsem tasol em gutpela nius i kam long longwe kantri. | As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
¶ Stretpela man i pundaun long pes bilong man nogut em i olsem ai bilong wara i sut i bagarap na ai bilong wara i paul. | A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
¶ Em i no gutpela long kaikai planti hani. Olsem tasol sapos ol man i painim glori bilong ol yet, dispela i no glori tru. | It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
¶ Em husat i no bosim spirit bilong em yet em i olsem biktaun i bruk pinis, na i no gat ol banis. | He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
