¶ Taim yu sindaun bilong kaikai wantaim hetman, tingim na skelim gut wanem samting i stap long ai bilong yu. | When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
Na putim naip long nek bilong yu, sapos yu stap man i laik kaikai planti. | And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
No ken gat laik long ol naispela kaikai bilong em. Long wanem, ol i kaikai i pulap long giaman. | Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
¶ No ken hatwok bilong kamap maniman. Lusim bilip long save tru bilong yu yet. | Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
Ating yu laik putim tupela ai bilong yu long dispela samting i no stap, a? Long wanem, tru tumas, ol planti mani samting i wokim ol wing bilong ol yet. Ol i flai i go olsem igal i go long heven. | Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
¶ Yu no ken kaikai bret bilong em husat i gat ai bilong pasin nogut, na tu yu no ken gat laik long ol naispela kaikai bilong em. | Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
Long wanem, olsem em i tingting long bel bilong em, em i stap olsem tasol. Kaikai na dring, em i tokim yu. Tasol bel bilong em i no stap wantaim yu. | For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Dispela hap kaikai yu bin kaikai bai yu trautim, na ol switpela toktok bilong yu bai lus. | The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
¶ No ken toktok long tupela ia bilong krankiman. Long wanem, em bai tingim save tru bilong ol toktok bilong yu i samting nating. | Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
¶ No ken rausim olpela mak bilong graun. Na no ken go long ol bikpela gaden bilong ol pikinini i no gat papa. | Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
Long wanem, man bilong baim bek ol em i strongpela. Em bai toktok wantaim strongpela askim long sait bilong wari bilong ol wantaim yu. | For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
¶ Putim bel bilong yu i go long tok skul, na tupela ia bilong yu i go long ol toktok bilong save. | Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
No ken holim bek stretim long pikinini. Long wanem, sapos yu paitim em long kanda, em bai i no inap dai. | Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
Yu bai paitim em long kanda, na yu bai kisim bek tewel bilong em long hel. | Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
Pikinini man bilong mi, sapos bel bilong yu i gat save tru, bel bilong mi bai wokim amamas tru, yes, bilong mi. | My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
Yes, stia bilong bel bilong mi bai wokim amamas tru, taim maus bilong yu i autim ol stretpela samting. | Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
¶ No ken larim bel bilong yu mangalim ol sinman. Tasol yu mas stap long pret long BIKPELA long olgeta hap bilong de. | Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long.
Long wanem, tru tumas, i gat wanpela pinis. Na strongpela hop bilong yu ol bai i no inap rausim olgeta. | For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
¶ Yu harim, pikinini man bilong mi, na stap saveman, na stiaim bel bilong yu long rot. | Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
No ken stap namel long ol man i dringim planti wain, namel long ol wailman i kaikai planti mit. | Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
Long wanem, man bilong spak na man bilong kaikai planti tumas bai kamap rabisman. Na ai i laik slip bai pasim man long ol klos i bruk. | For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
Harim long papa bilong yu husat i kamapim yu, na no ken tingim mama bilong yu i samting nating taim em i lapun. | Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
Baim tok tru, na no ken salim. Na tu baim save tru, na tok skul, na gutpela save. | Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Papa bilong stretpela man bai wokim bikpela amamas tru. Na em husat i kamapim pikinini i saveman bai gat amamas tru long em. | The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
Papa bilong yu na mama bilong yu bai amamas, na meri husat i karim yu bai wokim amamas tru. | Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
Pikinini man bilong mi, givim mi bel bilong yu, na larim tupela ai bilong yu lukluk gut long ol rot bilong mi. | My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
Long wanem, pamuk meri em i baret i dip tru. Na narakain meri em i bikpela hul i no gat bikpela brait. | For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
Na tu em i wet hait olsem em i painim prais bilong pait, na mekim ol man bilong kalapim lo i kamap planti moa namel long ol man. | She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
¶ Husat i gat bikpela hevi? Husat i gat bel hevi? Husat i gat ol pait? Husat i gat toktok nating? Husat i gat ol bagarap em i kisim nating? Husat i gat ol retpela ai? | Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
Em ol husat i stap yet long wain, ol husat i go bilong painim wain ol i abusim. | They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
Yu no ken lukluk long wain taim em i retpela, taim em i givim kala bilong en insait long kap, taim em i muvim em yet nabaut. | Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
Long pinis bilong en em i kaikaim yu olsem snek, na em i givim pen olsem snek i gat marasin nogut. | At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
Tupela ai bilong yu bai lukim narakain meri, na bel bilong yu bai autim ol tok paul. | Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
Yes, yu bai stap olsem em husat i slipim bodi namel long solwara, o olsem em husat i slip antap long mas bilong sip. | Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
Ol i bin paitim mi, yu bai tok, na mi no bin sik. Ol i bin paitim paitim mi, na mi no bin pilim. Wanem taim bai mi kirap? Bai mi painim dispela gen tasol. | They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
