¶ Ating i yes long i gat wanpela taim God i makim long man antap long dispela graun? Ating i yes long ol de bilong em tu i olsem ol de bilong wanpela man yu baim bilong wok? | Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth? are not his days also like the days of an hireling?
Olsem wanpela wokboi i strongpela tru long laikim tewel bilong san, na olsem man yu baim long wok i painim pe bilong wok bilong em, | As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work:
Wankain olsem God i makim bilong mi bilong holimpas ol mun bilong samting nating, na ol nait i bilong mekim les tru Em i makim long mi. | So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
Taim mi slipim bodi, mi tok, Wanem taim bai mi kirap, na nait i pinis? Na mi pulap wantaim pasin bilong tantanim i kam i go inap long kirap bilong de. | When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.
Bodi bilong mi i werim ol liklik snek na ol strongpela hap graun bilong das i pas olsem klos. Skin bilong mi i bruk, na i kamap samting i sting long ai bilong man. | My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken, and become loathsome.
Ol de bilong mi i hariap moa long wanpela masin bilong wokim laplap, na mi yusim taim mi no gat hop. | My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.
¶ O holim tingting long laip bilong mi i olsem win. Ai bilong mi bai i no inap lukim gutpela samting moa. | O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good.
Ai bilong em husat i bin lukim mi bai i no inap lukim mi moa. Tupela ai bilong yu i stap antap long mi, na mi no stap. | The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not.
Olsem win i kaikai klaut olgeta na i go pinis olgeta, olsem tasol man husat i go daun long matmat bai i no inap long kam antap moa. | As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.
Em bai i no inap go bek long haus bilong em, na tu ples bilong em i no inap long save long em moa liklik. | He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.
Olsem na mi bai i no inap holim bek maus bilong mi. Mi bai toktok taim hevi i krungutim spirit bilong mi. Mi bai komplen long bagarap tru bilong tewel bilong mi. | Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
Ating mi wanpela biksi, o wanpela weil, inap long yu putim wanpela was antap long mi? | Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?
Taim mi tok, Bet bilong mi bai givim bel isi long mi, liklik bet bilong mi bai slekim wari bilong mi. | When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint;
Nau yu wok long pretim mi wantaim ol driman, na mekim mi pret nogut tru long ol driman samting, | Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:
Inap long tewel bilong mi i ken makim man i ken pasim nek bilong kilim mi, na dai moa long laip bilong mi. | So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life.
Dispela i sting long ai bilong mi. Mi no gat laik long stap laip oltaim. Larim mi stap wanpis. Long wanem, ol de bilong mi i samting nating. | I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.
¶ Man em i wanem samting, inap long Yu ken litimapim nem bilong em, na inap long Yu ken putim bel bilong yu antap long em, | What is man, that thou shouldest magnify him? and that thou shouldest set thine heart upon him?
Na long Yu ken kam lukim em olgeta wan wan moning, na traim em olgeta wan wan liklik hap taim? | And that thou shouldest visit him every morning, and try him every moment?
Inap long wanem taim bipo Yu lusim mi, o larim mi stap wanpis inap long mi ken daunim spet bilong mi? | How long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle?
Mi bin mekim sin. Mi bai mekim wanem long Yu, O Yu husat i mekim ol man stap gut yet? Bilong wanem Yu bin putim mi olsem wanpela mak i birua long Yu, inap long mi stap wanpela hevi long mi yet? | I have sinned; what shall I do unto thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?
Na bilong wanem Yu no lusim pe bilong ol sin bilong mi i kalapim lo, na tekewe sin nogut bilong mi? Long wanem, nau bai mi slip long das. Na Yu bai painim mi long moning, tasol mi no inap stap. | And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.
