¶ Nau man Teman Elifas i bekim, na tok, | Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
Ating wanpela saveman bai kolim save nating, na pulimapim bel bilong em wantaim is win? | Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
Ating em bai stretim tok wantaim tok i no gutpela bilong helpim, o wantaim ol toktok we em i no ken mekim gutpela wantaim dispela? | Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
Yes, yu tromoi pret i go, na pasim prea long ai bilong God. | Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
Long wanem, maus bilong yu i kolim ol sin nogut bilong yu, na yu makim bilong yu tang bilong trikman. | For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
Maus bilong yu yet i sutim tok long yu, na i no mi. Yes, tupela lip bilong maus bilong yu yet i tokaut klia i birua long yu. | Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.
Ating yu namba wan man husat mama i karim long dispela graun, o ating God i wokim yu bipo long ol liklik maunten? | Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
Ating yu bin harim samting hait bilong God? Na ating yu pasim save tru long yu yet? | Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
Yu save long wanem samting, dispela mipela i no save? Yu gat save long wanem samting, na dispela i no stap insait long mipela? | What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?
Wantaim mipela em ol waitgras man na ol man i lapun tru tru wantaim, lapun planti moa long papa bilong yu. | With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
Ating ol samting bilong God bilong givim bel isi i liklik samting long yu? Ating i gat wanpela samting hait i stap wantaim yu? | Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
Bilong wanem bel bilong yu i karim yu i go? Na yu brukim tupela ai bilong yu long wanem samting, | Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
Inap long yu tanim spirit bilong yu i birua long God, na larim kain toktok i go ausait long maus bilong yu? | That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?
Man em i wanem samting, inap long em i ken stap klin, na em husat meri i karim, long em i ken stap stretpela? | What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Lukim, Em i no putim bilip long ol seint bilong Em. Yes, ol heven i no klin long ai bilong Em. | Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
Hamas moa man em i samting i sting na samting i doti tru, husat i dringim sin nogut olsem wara? | How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?
¶ Mi bai soim yu, harim mi. Na dispela samting mi bin lukim mi bai tokaut long en. | I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
Dispela samting ol saveman i bin toktok i kam long ol papa bilong ol, na ol i no bin haitim dispela. | Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
Long husat wanpela God i bin givim dispela graun, na i no gat ausait man i go namel long ol. | Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
Man nogut i hatwok wantaim pen olgeta de bilong em, na namba bilong ol yia bilong em i stap hait long man bilong givim hevi. | The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
Wanpela nois bilong pretim tru i stap long tupela ia bilong em. Long taim em i gat gutpela sindaun, man bilong bagarapim olgeta bai kam antap long em. | A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
Em i no bilipim long em bai kam bek ausait long tudak, na long bainat i wetim em. | He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
Em i raun nating ausait bilong painim kaikai, i spik, Em i stap we? Em i save long de bilong tudak i klostu tru long han bilong em. | He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
Trabel na taim hevi i krungutim bai mekim em pret. Ol bai winim em, olsem wanpela king i redi long pait. | Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
Long wanem, em i stretim han bilong em i go ausait i birua long God, na strongim em yet i birua long Man i Gat Olgeta Strong. | For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
Em i ran antap long em, yes, antap long nek bilong em, antap long patpela bilas bilong ol plang bilong han bilong em. | He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
Bilong wanem, em i karamapim pes bilong em wantaim gris bilong em, na mekim ol hap bilong bikpela hap gris antap long sait bilong bodi bilong em. | Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
Na em i stap long ol biktaun i stap nating olgeta, na long ol dispela haus i no gat man i stap long en, dispela i redi long kamap ol hip. | And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
Em bai i no inap stap maniman, na tu kago bilong em bai i no inap long stap yet, na tu bai em i no inap mekim inap tru bilong ol long stap moa long dispela graun. | He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
Em bai i no inap long lusim tudak i kam ausait. Paia bai draim i go ol han diwai bilong em, na long win bilong maus bilong em, em bai go. | He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
No ken larim em husat ol i giamanim pinis i ken putim bilip long samting nating. Long wanem, samting nating bai stap pe bilong em. | Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
Dispela bai kamap pinis bipo long taim bilong em, na han diwai bilong em bai i no inap stap grinpela. | It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
Em bai seksekim i go pikinini wain i no mau bilong em olsem rop wain, na em bai tromoi i go ol plaua bilong em olsem oliv. | He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
Long wanem, bung bilong ol manmeri bilong tupela maus bai stap nating olgeta, na paia bai kaikai olgeta ol haus holi bilong givim pe hait. | For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
Ol i kirapim tingting long trabel, na karim samting nating i kam ausait, na bel bilong ol i redim giaman. | They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
