1 ¶ Na Reaboam i go long Sekem. Long wanem, olgeta Isrel i kam long Sekem long mekim em king. And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.
2 Na em i kamap olsem, taim Jeroboam, pikinini man bilong Nibat, husat i stap yet long Isip, i harim stori long dispela, (long wanem, em i ranawe long pes bilong king Solomon, na Jeroboam i stap long Isip,) And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)
3 Long ol i salim tok na singautim em. Na Jeroboam na olgeta bung bilong ol manmeri bilong Isrel i kam, na toktok long Reaboam, i spik, That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,
4 Papa bilong yu i mekim yok bilong mipela i hevi nogut tru. Olsem na nau yu mas mekim dispela wok wokboi wantaim hevi nogut tru bilong papa bilong yu, na yok i hevi tru bilong em, dispela em i putim antap long mipela, i no hevi olsem, na mipela bai bihainim yu. Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
5 Na em i tokim ol, Lusim mi inap long tripela de tasol, nau kam gen long mi. Na ol manmeri i go. And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?
7 Na ol i tokim em, i spik, Sapos yu bai stap wanpela wokboi bilong dispela ol manmeri tude, na bai yu wokim wok bilong ol, na bekim tok long ol, na toktok long ol gutpela toktok long ol, orait ol bai stap ol wokboi bilong yu inap long oltaim oltaim. And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:
9 Na em i tokim ol, Yupela givim wanem tok helpim inap long yumi ken bekim tok long dispela lain manmeri, husat i bin toktok long mi, i spik, Mekim dispela yok papa bilong yu i bin putim antap long mipela i no hevi olsem? And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
10 Na ol yangpela man husat i kamap bikpela wantaim em i toktok long em, i spik, Yu bai toktok olsem long dispela lain manmeri husat i toktok long yu, i spik, Papa bilong yu i mekim yok bilong mipela hevi, tasol yu mas mekim dispela i no hevi olsem long mipela. Yu bai tokim ol olsem, Liklik pinga bilong mi bai patpela moa long ol namel bilong bel bilong papa bilong mi. And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
11 Na nau, we papa bilong mi i bin pulimapim yupela wantaim wanpela yok i hevi olsem, mi bai skruim moa long yok bilong yupela. Papa bilong mi i bin stikim yupela wantaim ol wip, tasol mi bai stikim yupela wantaim ol skopian. And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12 Olsem na Jeroboam na olgeta manmeri i kam long Reaboam long namba tri de, olsem king i bin makim, i spik, Kam gen long mi long namba tri de. So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.
13 Na king i bekim tok long ol manmeri strong liklik, na givim baksait long tok helpim bilong ol lapun man, dispela ol i givim em. And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him;
14 Na em i toktok long ol i bihainim tok helpim bilong ol yangpela man, i spik, Papa bilong mi i mekim yok bilong yupela hevi, na mi bai skruim moa long yok bilong yupela. Papa bilong mi tu i stikim yupela wantaim ol wip, tasol mi bai stikim yupela wantaim ol skopian. And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15 Olsem na king i no harim tok bilong ol manmeri. Long wanem, dispela samting i kam long BIKPELA, inap long Em i ken inapim toktok bilong Em, dispela BIKPELA i toktok long maus bilong man Sailo Ahaisa i go long Jeroboam, pikinini man bilong Nibat. Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the Lord, that he might perform his saying, which the Lord spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16 ¶ Olsem na taim olgeta Isrel i luksave long king i no harim long ol, ol manmeri i bekim tok long king, i spik, Mipela i gat wanem hap skel insait long Devit? So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.
17 Tasol long sait bilong ol pikinini bilong Isrel husat i stap long ol biktaun bilong Juda, Reaboam i bosim kingdom bilong ol. But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18 Nau king Reaboam i salim Adoram, husat i bosim ol takis. Na olgeta Isrel i tromoi ston long em, inap long em i dai pinis. Olsem na king Reaboam i hariap long kisim em yet i go antap long karis bilong em, long ranawe i go long Jerusalem. Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19 Olsem na Isrel i bikhet na birua long hauslain bilong Devit inap long tude. So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
20 Na em i kamap olsem, taim olgeta Isrel i harim long Jeroboam i kam gen, long ol i salim tok na singautim em i kam long bung bilong ol manmeri, na ol i mekim em i kamap king long bosim olgeta Isrel. I no gat wanpela husat i bihainim hauslain bilong Devit, ol lain bilong Juda tasol. And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
21 Na taim Reaboam i kam pinis long Jerusalem, em i bungim olgeta hauslain bilong Juda, wantaim hauslain bilong Benjamin, 180,000 man ol i makim, husat i ol man bilong bikpela pait, long pait birua long hauslain bilong Isrel, long bringim i kam kingdom gen long Reaboam, pikinini man bilong Solomon. And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
22 Tasol tok bilong God i kam long man bilong God Semaia, i spik, But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
23 Toktok long Reaboam, pikinini man bilong Solomon, king bilong Juda, na long olgeta hauslain bilong Juda na Benjamin, na long hap lain i stap yet bilong ol manmeri, i spik, Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,
24 BIKPELA i tok olsem, Yupela bai i no inap go antap, o pait birua long ol brata bilong yupela ol pikinini bilong Isrel. Olgeta wan wan man i mas go bek long haus bilong em. Long wanem, dispela samting i kam long Mi. Olsem na ol i harim tok bilong BIKPELA, na lusim hap bilong go bek, bilong bihainim tok bilong BIKPELA. Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the Lord, and returned to depart, according to the word of the Lord.
25 ¶ Nau Jeroboam i wokim Sekem long maunten Ifraim, na stap long en. Na em i go ausait long dispela ples, na wokim Penyuel. Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.
26 Na Jeroboam i toktok insait long bel bilong em, Nau bai kingdom i go bek long ol hauslain bilong Devit. And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:
27 Sapos dispela ol manmeri i go antap bilong wokim sakrifais long haus bilong BIKPELA long Jerusalem, orait bel bilong ol dispela lain manmeri bai tanim gen long bikman bilong ol, yes, long Reaboam king bilong Juda, na ol bai kilim mi i dai, na go gen long Reaboam, king bilong Juda. If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.
28 We long en king i kisim tok helpim long ol man, na wokim tupela pikinini bulmakau long gol, na tokim ol, Em i hat tumas long yupela long go antap long Jerusalem. Lukim ol god bilong yu, O Isrel, husat i bringim yu i kam antap ausait long hap bilong Isip. Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
29 Na em i putim wanpela long Betel, na arapela em i putim long Dan. And he set the one in Beth–el, and the other put he in Dan.
30 Na dispela samting i kamap wanpela sin. Long wanem, ol manmeri i go bilong lotu long ai bilong dispela wanpela, yes, i go inap long Dan. And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.
31 Na em i wokim wanpela haus bilong ol ples antap, na mekim ol pris long ol lain i no gat namba olgeta, husat i no bilong ol pikinini man bilong Livai. And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.
32 Na Jeroboam i makim wanpela bikpela kaikai long namba et mun, long namba 15 de bilong mun, wankain long dispela bikpela kaikai i stap long Juda, na em i wokim ofa antap long alta. Olsem tasol em i mekim long Betel, na em i sakrifais long ol dispela pikinini bulmakau em i bin wokim. Na em i putim long Betel ol pris bilong ol dispela ples antap em i bin wokim. And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Beth–el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth–el the priests of the high places which he had made.

So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Beth–el the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.
