And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth–lehem–judah.
Na namba tu lain meri bilong em i pilai olsem pamuk meri i birua long em, na i lusim em i go long haus bilong papa bilong em long Betlehem-juda, na stap long dispela hap fopela mun olgeta. And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father’s house to Beth–lehem–judah, and was there four whole months.

And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father’s house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.
Na tambu papa bilong em, papa bilong dispela yangpela meri, i holim em bek. Na em i stap wantaim em tripela de. Olsem na ol i bin kaikai na dring, na slip long dispela hap. And his father in law, the damsel’s father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.
Na em i kamap olsem long namba foa de, taim ol i kirap long moning tru, long em i kirap long lusim hap. And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel’s father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.
Na ol sindaun, na ol i bin kaikai na dring, tupela wantaim. Long wanem, papa bilong dispela yangpela meri i bin tok, Tok em inap, mi askim yu plis, na stap yet olgeta hap long nait, na larim bel bilong yu i stap amamas. And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel’s father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.
Na taim man i kirap long lusim hap, tambu papa bilong em i pulim em. Olsem na em i slip long dispela hap gen. And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

Na ol i stap yet inap long apinun, na ol i bin kaikai, tupela wantaim. And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.
Na taim man i kirap long lusim hap, em, na namba tu lain meri bilong em, na wokboi bilong em, tambu papa bilong em, papa bilong dispela yangpela meri, i tokim em, Lukim, nau de i wok long go long apinun tru, mi askim yu plis long stap yet olgeta hap long nait. Lukim, de i go klostu long pinis bilong en, slip hia, inap long bel bilong yu i ken amamas. Na tumora yu kirap long moning tru na go long rot bilong yu, inap long yu ken go long ples. And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.
Tasol man i no laik stap yet long dispela nait, tasol em i kirap na lusim hap, na kam pas klostu long Jebus, dispela em i Jerusalem. Na i gat wantaim em tupela donki i gat sia, namba tu lain meri bilong em tu i stap wantaim em. But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.
Na taim ol i stap klostu long Jebus, de i klostu tru long pinis. Na wokboi i tokim bikman bilong em, Kam, mi askim yu plis, na yumi tanim i go insait long dispela biktaun bilong ol lain Jebus, na slip long en. And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.
Na bikman bilong em i tokim em, Yumi no inap tanim i go long sait hia long biktaun bilong wanpela ausait man, husat i no bilong ol pikinini bilong Isrel. Yumi bai go hapsait long Gibia. And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.
Na em i tokim wokboi bilong em, Kam, na yumi go klostu long wanpela bilong ol dispela ples long slip olgeta hap long nait, long Gibia, o long Rama. And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.
Na ol i go moa na go long rot bilong ol. Na san i go daun long ol taim ol i stap klostu long Gibia, dispela i bilong Benjamin. And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.
Na ol i tanim long sait long dispela hap, long go insait na long slip long Gibia. Na taim em i go insait, em i sindaun long wanpela rot bilong biktaun. Long wanem, i no gat man husat i kisim ol i go insait bilong haus long em long stap. And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.
¶ Na, lukim, wanpela lapun man i kam long wok bilong em ausait long bikpela gaden long apinun tru, husat tu i bilong maunten Ifraim. Na em i stap waira long Gibia. Tasol ol man bilong dispela ples em ol lain Benjamin. And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.
Na taim em i bin apim tupela ai bilong em, em i lukim wanpela man bilong raun long rot bilong biktaun. Na dispela lapun man i tok, Yu go we? Na yu kam long we? And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?
Na em i tokim em, Mipela i lusim Betlehem-juda na wok long go long sait bilong maunten Ifraim, mi bilong dispela ples. Na mi go long Betlehem-juda, tasol nau mi wok long go long haus bilong BIKPELA. Na i no gat man husat i kisim mi i go long haus. And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth–lehem–judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth–lehem–judah, but I am now going to the house of the Lord; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.
Yet i gat pipia stik wit samting na kaikai wantaim bilong ol donki bilong mipela. Na i gat bret na wain tu i stap bilong mi, na bilong wokmeri bilong yu, na bilong dispela yangpela man i stap wantaim ol wokboi bilong yu. I no gat wanpela samting i sot tru. Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.
Na lapun man i tok, Bel isi i stap wantaim yu. Tasol larim olgeta nid bilong yu i slip antap long mi. Tasol yupela i no ken slip long rot. And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.
Olsem na em i bringim em insait long haus bilong em, na givim kaikai long tupela donki. Na ol i wasim ol fut bilong ol, na ol i bin kaikai na dring. So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.
¶Nau taim ol i wok long mekim ol bel bilong ol amamas, lukim, ol man bilong dispela biktaun, sampela pikinini man bilong Belial, i raunim haus raun nabaut, na pait long dua, na toktok long bikman bilong haus, lapun man, i spik, Bringim i kam ausait dispela man i kam pinis insait long haus bilong yu, inap long mipela ken save long em. Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.
Na dispela man, bikman bilong haus, i go ausait long ol, na tokim ol, Nogat, ol brata bilong mi, nogat, mi askim yupela plis, no ken mekim kain pasin nogut olsem. Taim yupela i luksave olsem dispela man i kam pinis insait long haus bilong mi, no ken mekim dispela longlong pasin. And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.
Lukim, pikinini meri bilong mi, wanpela meri i no bin slip wantaim man, i stap hia, na namba tu lain meri bilong em. Mi bai bringim tupela ausait nau long yupela, na yupela i ken bagarapim ol, na mekim long ol wanem samting i luk olsem em i gutpela long yupela. Tasol long dispela man yupela i no ken mekim samting i sting olsem. Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.
Tasol ol man i no laik harim long em. Olsem na man i kisim namba tu lain meri bilong em, na bringim em ausait long ol. Na ol i save long em, na bagarapim em nogut olgeta hap long nait inap long moning. Na taim tulait i stat long kamap, ol i lusim em i go. But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.
Nau meri i kam long taim san i stat long kamap, na pundaun long dua bilong haus bilong man we bikman bilong em i stap, inap long em i lait gut. Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light.
Na bikman bilong em i kirap long moning, na opim ol dua bilong haus, na go ausait long go long rot bilong em. Na, lukim, meri, namba tu lain meri bilong em, i pundaun i stap long dua bilong haus, na tupela han bilong em i stap long as bilong dua. And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.
Na em i tokim meri, Kirap, na yumi go. Tasol i no gat wanpela i bekim tok. Nau man i kisim em i go antap long wanpela donki, na man i kirap, na kisim em yet i go long ples bilong em. And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.
Na taim em i kam pinis long haus bilong em, em i kisim wanpela naip, na holimpas namba tu lain meri bilong em, na brukim em, wantaim ol bun bilong em, long twelpela hap, na salim em i go long olgeta hap arere bilong Isrel. And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.
Na em i kamap olsem, long olgeta husat i lukim dispela i tok, I no gat kain samting man i wokim, o yumi lukim, i stat long dispela de ol pikinini bilong Isrel i kam antap ausait long hap bilong Isip inap long tude. Tingim na skelim long dispela, kisim tingting, na toktok long tingting bilong yupela. And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.
