Zvino mazuva matanhatu pasika isati yasvika Jesu wakasvika Bhetaniya, paiva naRazaro wakange afa, waakamutsa kubva kuvakafa. | Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
Naizvozvo vakamuitira chirairo ipapo, uye Marita waishandira; naRazaro wakange ari umwe wevakange vagere naye pakudya. | There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
Zvino Maria akatora paundi* yemafuta enadhi* amene, ane mutengo mukuru, akazodza tsoka dzaJesu, akapusika tsoka dzake nevhudzi rake; imba ikazadzwa nekunhuhwira kwemafuta. | Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
Naizvozvo umwe wevadzidzi vake, Judhasi Isikariyoti waSimoni wakange achazomutengesa, akati: | Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,
Mafuta awa aregerei kutengeswa nemadhenario* mazana matatu, akapiwa varombo? | Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
Wakarevawo izvi, kwete kuti wakava nehanya nevarombo, asi nokuti waiva mbavha, uye waiva nechikwama, achitakura zvaiiswamo. | This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
Naizvozvo Jesu wakati: Muregei; wamachengetedzera zuva rekuvigwa kwangu. | Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
Nokuti varombo munavo nguva dzese, asi ini hamuneni nguva dzese. | For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
Naizvozvo chaunga chikuru cheVaJudha chakaziva kuti aripo; ndokuuya kwete nekuda kwaJesu chete, asi kuti vaonewo Razaro, waakange amutsa kubva kuvakafa. | Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
Asi vapristi vakuru vakarangana kuti vauraye Razarowo; | But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
nokuti nekuda kwake vazhinji veVaJudha vaibva, vachitenda kuna Jesu. | Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
Chifume chaunga chikuru chakange chauya kumutambo, chakati chanzwa kuti Jesu anouya kuJerusarema, | On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
vakatora matavi emichindwe, vakabuda kunomuchingamidza, vakadanidzira vachiti: Hosana*! Wakaropafadzwa anouya muzita raIshe, Mambo waIsraeri. | Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Zvino Jesu awana dhongwana, akagara pamusoro paro, sezvazvakanyorwa zvichinzi: | And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
Usatya, mukunda weZiyoni; tarira, Mambo wako anouya, agere pamusoro pedhongwana rembongoro. | Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
Vadzidzi vake havana kunzwisisa zvinhu izvi pakutanga; asi Jesu wakati akudzwa, ipapo vakazorangarira kuti zvinhu izvi zvakange zvakanyorwa pamusoro pake, uye vakange vamuitira zvinhu izvi. | These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
Naizvozvo chaunga chaiva naye paakadana Razaro kuti abude muguva, nekumumutsa kubva kuvakafa, chakapupura. | The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
Saka chaunga chakamuchingamidzawo, nokuti vakange vanzwa kuti wakaita chiratidzo ichochi. | For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
Naizvozvo VaFarisi vakataurirana, vachiti: Munoona kuti hamubatsiri chinhu; tarirai nyika inomutevera. | The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
Zvino kwaiva nevamwe VaGiriki pakati pevakange vakwira kuti vanonamata kumutambo; | And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
ava ndokuuya kuna Firipi weBhetisaidha reGarirea, vakamukumbira vachiti: Ishe, tinoda kuona Jesu. | The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
Firipi akasvika akaudza Andiriya; uye Andiriya naFiripi vakaudzazve Jesu. | Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
Jesu ndokuvapindura achiti: Awa rasvika rekuti Mwanakomana wemunhu akudzwe. | And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
Zvirokwazvo, zvirokwazvo, ndinoti kwamuri: Kunze kwekuti tsanga yegorosi yawira muvhu ikafa, iyo inogara iri yega; asi kana ikafa, inobereka chibereko chakawanda. | Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Anoda upenyu hwake acharasikirwa nahwo; neanovenga upenyu hwake panyika ino achahuchengetedza kusvikira kuupenyu husingaperi. | He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
Kana munhu achindishandira, ngaanditevere; nepandiri ini, achavapowo muranda wangu. Uye kana munhu achindishandira, Baba vachamukudza. | If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
Ikozvino mweya wangu unotambudzika; zvino ndichatii? Baba, ndiponesei paawa rino. Asi nekuda kweizvi ndasvika paawa rino. | Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
Baba, kudzai zita renyu. Naizvozvo inzwi rakauya richibva kudenga, richiti: Ndarikudzawo, uye ndicharikudzazve. | Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
Naizvozvo chaunga chakange chimire chichizvinzwa chakati: Kwatinhira. Vamwe vakati: Mutumwa wataura naye. | The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
Jesu akapindura akati: Inzwi iri harina kuuya nekuda kwangu, asi nekuda kwenyu. | Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
Ikozvino pane mutongo wenyika ino; ikozvino mutungamiriri wenyika ino achadzingirwa panze. | Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
Neni, kana ndasimudzwa panyika, ndichakwevera vese kwandiri. | And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
Wakarevawo izvi achiratidza kuti waizofa nerufu rwakadini. | This he said, signifying what death he should die.
Chaunga chakamupindura chichiti: Isu takanzwa pamurairo kuti Kristu achagara nekusingaperi; zvino imwi moreva sei kuti: Mwanakomana wemunhu anofanira kusimudzwa? Ndiani uyu Mwanakomana wemunhu? | The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
Naizvozvo Jesu wakati kwavari: Pachine chinguvana chiedza chichinemwi. Fambai muchine chiedza, zvimwe rima ringakukundai; uye anofamba murima haazivi kwaanoenda. | Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
Muchine chiedza, tendai kuchiedza, kuti muve vana vechiedza. Jesu wakareva zvinhu izvi, akabva, akazvivanza kwavari. | While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
Kunyange akange aita zviratidzo zvizhinji kudai pamberi pavo, havana kutenda kwaari; | But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
kuti shoko raIsaya muporofita rizadziswe, raakareva achiti: Ishe, ndiani wakatenda mharidzo yedu? Neruoko rwaIshe rwakazarurirwa kuna ani? | That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
Naizvozvo vakange vasingagoni kutenda, nokuti Isaya wakatizve: | Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
Wakapofumadza meso avo, akaomesa moyo wavo; kuti varege kuona nemeso kana kunzwisisa nemoyo, vagotendeuka, ndigovaporesa. | He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
Isaya wakareva zvinhu izvi, paakaona kubwinya kwake, ndokutaura pamusoro pake. | These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
Asi kunyange zvakadaro, vazhinji vevatongiwo vakatenda kwaari; asi nekuda kweVaFarisi vakange vasingabvumi, kuti varege kubudiswa musinagoge; | Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
nokuti vakada rukudzo rwevanhu kupfuura rukudzo rwaMwari. | For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Zvino Jesu wakadanidzira akati: Anotenda kwandiri, haatendi kwandiri, asi kune wakandituma. | Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
Neanoona ini, anoona wakandituma. | And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
Ini ndakauya ndiri chiedza panyika, kuti ani nani anotenda kwandiri arege kugara murima. | I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
Uye kana ani nani achinzwa mashoko angu akasatenda, handimutongi ini; nokuti handina kuuya kuti nditonge nyika, asi kuti ndiponese nyika. | And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Uyo anondiramba asingagamuchiri mashoko angu, ane anomutonga; shoko randakareva, ndiro richamutonga nezuva rekupedzisira. | He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
Nokuti ini handina kureva zvemusoro wangu, asi Baba vakandituma, ndivo vakandipa murairo, zvandichareva nezvandichataura. | For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
Uye ndinoziva kuti murairo wavo upenyu husingaperi; naizvozvo ini zvandinotaura, saBaba zvavakataura kwandiri, saizvozvo ndinotaura. | And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
