1	인사 장로인 나는 택하심을 받은 자매와 그 자녀들에게 이 글을 씁니다. 나는 여러분을 진정으로 사랑합니다. 나만이 아니라, 진리를 깨달은 모든 사람이 여러분을 사랑합니다.	The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2	그것은 지금 우리 안에 있고, 또 영원히 우리와 함께 있을 그 진리 때문입니다.	For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
3	하나님 아버지와 아버지의 아들 예수 그리스도께로부터 오는 은혜와 자비와 평화가, 진리와 사랑 안에서 우리와 함께 있기를 빕니다.	Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4	진리와 사랑 그대의 자녀 가운데 우리가 아버지께로부터 받은 계명대로 진리 안에서 살아가는 이들이 있는 것을 보고, 나는 매우 기뻤습니다.	I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
5	자매여, 지금 내가 간청하는 것은, 우리 모두가 서로 사랑하자는 것입니다. 그렇지만, 내가 새 계명을 써 보내는 것이 아니라, 우리가 처음부터 가지고 있는 계명을 써 보내는 것입니다.	And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6	사랑은 다름이 아니라, 하나님의 계명을 따라 사는 것입니다. 계명은 다름이 아니라, 여러분이 처음부터 들은 대로, 사랑 안에서 살아야 한다는 것입니다.	And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
7	속이는 자가 세상에 많이 나타났습니다. 그들은 예수 그리스도께서 육신을 입고 오셨음을 고백하지 않습니다. 이런 자야말로 속이는 자요, 적그리스도입니다.	For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8	여러분은 스스로 삼가서, 우리가 수고하여 맺은 열매를 잃지 말고, 충분히 포상을 받을 수 있도록 하십시오.	Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9	누구든지, 앞질러 나가서 그리스도의 가르침 안에 머물러 있지 않는 사람은, 하나님을 모시고 있지 않는 사람입니다. 그 가르침 안에 머물러 있는 사람은, 아버지와 아들을 둘 다 모시고 있는 사람입니다.	Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10	누가 여러분을 찾아가서 이 가르침을 전하지 않으면, 그 사람을 집에 받아들이지도 말고, 인사도 하지 마십시오.	If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11	그에게 인사하는 사람은 그의 악한 일에 동참하는 것입니다.	For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
12	작별 인사 내가 여러분에게 쓸 말이 많지만, 그것을 종이와 먹으로 써 보내고 싶지 않습니다. 내가 여러분에게로 가서, 얼굴을 마주 보고 말하려고 합니다. 이것은 우리의 기쁨이 넘치게 하려 함입니다.	Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
13	택하심을 받은 그대 자매의 자녀들이 그대에게 문안합니다.	The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
