1	인사 장로인 나는 사랑하는 가이오에게 이 글을 씁니다. 나는 그대를 진정으로 사랑합니다.	The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2	사랑하는 이여, 나는 그대의 영혼이 평안함과 같이, 그대에게 모든 일이 잘 되고, 그대가 건강하기를 빕니다.	Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3	친구들이 와서, 그대가 진리 안에서 살아가는 모습 그대로 그대의 진실성을 증언해 주었을 때에, 나는 매우 기뻤습니다.	For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4	내 자녀들이 진리 안에서 살아가고 있다는 소식을 듣는 것보다 더 기쁜 일이, 나에게는 없습니다.	I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
5	협동과 방해 사랑하는 이여, 그대가 형제자매에게, 더욱이 낯선 이들에게 봉사하는 일은, 무엇이나 충성스럽게 하고 있습니다.	Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
6	그들은 교회의 회중 앞에서 그대의 사랑을 증언하였습니다. 그대가 그들을, 하나님께서 보시기에 합당하게 잘 보살펴서 보내는 것은, 잘 하는 일입니다.	Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
7	그들은 그리스도의 이름을 전하려고 나섰는데, 이방 사람에게서는 아무것도 받지 않았습니다.	Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8	그러므로 우리가 그런 사람들을 돌보아 주는 것이 마땅합니다. 그래야만, 우리가 진리에 협력하는 사람이 될 것입니다.	We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
9	내가 그 교회에 편지를 써 보냈습니다. 그러나 그들 가운데서 으뜸이 되기를 좋아하는 디오드레베는 우리를 받아들이지 않았습니다.	I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10	그러므로 내가 가면, 그가 하는 일들을 들추어내겠습니다. 그는 악한 말로 우리를 헐뜯고 있습니다. 그는 그것으로도 만족하지 않고, 자기도 친구들을 받아들이지 않을 뿐만 아니라, 받아들이려는 사람들까지도 방해하고, 교회에서 그들을 내쫓습니다.	Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
11	사랑하는 이여, 악한 것을 본받지 말고, 선한 것을 본받으십시오. 선한 일을 하는 사람은 하나님에게서 난 사람이고, 악한 일을 하는 사람은 하나님을 보지 못한 사람입니다.	Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
12	데메드리오는 모든 사람들에게 좋은 평을 받고, 또 그 진실한 삶이 스스로 그렇게 평하여 주었습니다. 우리도 또한 그렇게 평합니다. 그대는 우리의 증언이 옳다는 것을 압니다.	Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
13	작별 인사 그대에게 쓸 말이 많지만, 먹과 붓으로 써 보내고 싶지 않습니다.	I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
14	그대를 곧 만나게 되기를 바랍니다. 그러면 우리가 얼굴을 마주 보고 말하게 될 것입니다.	But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
15	평화가 그대에게 있기를 빕니다. 친구들이 그대에게 문안합니다. 친구들 한 사람 한 사람에게 문안하여 주십시오.	—
