1	아브람에게 후손과 땅을 주겠다고 말씀하시다 이런 일들이 있은 뒤에 환상 가운데 여호와의 말씀이 아브람에게 내려오는 일이 일어났다. “두려워하지 마라, 아브람아, 내가 너의 방패다. 네가 받을 삯이 아주 엄청날 것이다.”	After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2	아브람이 여쭈었다. “주 여호와여, 무엇을 제게 주시려는지요? 저는 자식이 없이 죽으려나 봅니다. 제 집의 재산을 대신 물려받을 사람은 다마스쿠스 사람 엘리에셀인가요?”	And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3	아브람이 또 아뢰었다. “보세요, 제게는 후손을 주지 않으셨어요. 그러니, 보십시오, 제 집에서 태어난 사람이 제 뒤를 잇겠지요.”	And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4	그러자, 아, 여호와의 말씀이 아브람에게 내려오는 것이 아닌가! “이 사람이 너의 뒤를 잇지는 않을 것이다. 너의 몸에서 나오는 사람, 그가 너의 뒤를 이을 것이다.”	And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5	여호와께서 아브람을 밖으로 데리고 나가서 말씀하셨다. “하늘을 쳐다보고 별을 셀 수 있거든 세어 보아라!” 또 그에게 말씀하셨다. “너의 후손이 그처럼 될 것이다.”	And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6	아브람이 여호와를 믿자, 여호와께서는 이를 보시고 그를 의롭다고 여겨 주셨다.	And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
7	여호와께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. “바로 내가 너에게 이 땅을 주어 차지하게 하려고 너를 칼데아 사람들의 우르에서 나오게 한 여호와다.”	And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8	아브람이 여쭈었다. “주 여호와여, 제가 그 땅을 차지할 줄 무엇으로 알겠습니까?”	And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9	여호와께서 그에게 대답하셨다. “3년 된 암소와 3년 된 암염소와 3년 된 숫양과 멧비둘기와 집비둘기를 내게 가져오너라.”	And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10	아브람이 이 모든 짐승을 가져와 한가운데를 갈라서, 두 조각을 서로 마주 보게 놓았다. 그러나 새는 가르지 않았다.	And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11	사나운 새들이 시체들 위로 날아들면 아브람이 쫓아 버렸다.	And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12	해가 지려고 할 무렵에 아브람이 잠에 곯아떨어졌다. 그런데, 이런, 무서움과 짙은 어둠이 그를 덮친 것이 아닌가!	And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13	여호와께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. “똑똑히 알아 두거라. 너의 후손이 자신의 땅이 아닌 데서 나그네로 살며 사람들을 섬기고, 사람들이 그들을 괴롭힐 것이다. 400년 동안 그럴 것이다.	And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14	그런데 그들이 섬길 민족 또한 내가 심판할 것이다. 그런 뒤에 너의 자손이 많은 재물을 가지고 거기서 나올 것이다.	And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15	너는 오래 잘 살다가, 조상들 곁에 편안히 묻힐 것이다.	And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16	너의 자손은 네 번째 세대에 이르러서야 여기로 돌아올 것이다. 아모리 사람들의 잘못이 아직 그 정도로는 심하지 않기 때문이다.”	But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17	해가 지고 캄캄해졌다. 그런데, 아, 연기 나는 아궁이와 횃불이 이렇게 갈라놓은 것들 사이로 지나가는 것이 아닌가!	And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18	그날에 여호와께서 아브람과 함께 언약을 맺으셨다. “너의 후손에게 이 땅을 주마. 이집트의 강에서부터 큰 강 유프라테스강까지다.	In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
19	가인 사람들, 그나스 사람들, 갓몬 사람들을 주마.	The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20	또 히타이트 사람들, 브리스 사람들, 라바 사람들을 주마.	And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21	아모리 사람들, 가나안 사람들, 기르가스 사람들, 여부스 사람들도 주마.”	And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
