1	아브람과 롯이 갈라서다 아브람은 이집트에서 아내와 함께, 자기에게 있는 모든 것을 가지고 올라왔다. 롯도 그와 함께 네게브로 올라왔다.	And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
2	아브람은 엄청난 부자였다. 그래서 집짐승과 은과 금이 많았다.	And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
3	아브람은 네게브에서 베델 쪽으로 조금씩 계속 나아갔다. 베델과 아이 사이, 곧 이전에 천막을 쳤던 곳까지 갔다.	And he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth–el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth–el and Hai;
4	그가 거기에 처음으로 만들었던 제단이 있는 곳이었다. 아브람은 거기서 여호와의 이름을 불렀다.	Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.
5	아브람과 함께 다니던 롯에게도 양 떼와 소 떼와 천막들이 있었다.	And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
6	그들이 함께 살기에는 땅이 좁았다. 그들의 재산이 많아져서 함께 살 수가 없었던 것이다.	And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
7	그래서 아브람의 집짐승을 돌보는 목자들과 롯의 집짐승을 돌보는 목자들 사이에 다툼이 생겼다. 그때에 가나안 사람들과 브리스 사람들이 그 땅에 살고 있었다.	And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdmen of Lot’s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
8	아브람이 롯에게 말했다. “나와 너 사이에, 또 나의 목자들과 너의 목자들 사이에 다툼은 생기게 하지 말자! 우리는 큰아버지와 조카 사이니까.	And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
9	온 땅이 너의 앞에 있지 않느냐? 너는 나에게서 갈라서도록 해라! 네가 왼쪽으로 가면 나는 오른쪽으로 가고, 네가 오른쪽으로 가면 나는 왼쪽으로 갈 것이다.”	Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
10	롯은 눈길을 돌려 요르단 온 들판을 살펴보았다. 그 어디든 물을 댈 수 있는 땅이었다. 여호와께서 소돔과 고모라를 무너뜨리시기 전이었던 것이다. 소알에 이르기까지 여호와의 동산 같고 이집트 땅 같았다.	And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
11	롯은 요르단 온 들판을 골랐고, 롯은 동쪽으로 길을 나서서 큰아버지와 갈라섰다.	Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
12	아브람은 가나안 땅에 살았고, 롯은 들판 여러 도시에 살다가 소돔까지 가서 천막을 쳤다.	Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.
13	그런데 소돔 사람들은 악한 사람들로, 여호와께 심하게 죄짓는 사람들이었다.	But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.
14	아브람에게 후손과 땅을 주겠다고 말씀하시다 롯이 아브람과 갈라선 뒤에, 여호와께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. “너의 두 눈을 들어, 네가 있는 곳에서 동서남북 사방을 살펴보아라.	And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
15	그래, 네가 보는 온 땅을 너와 너의 후손에게 영원히 주마.	For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
16	너의 후손을 땅의 흙먼지처럼 많아지게 해 주마. 땅의 흙먼지를 셀 수 없듯이 너의 후손도 셀 수 없을 것이다.	And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
17	일어나서 그 땅을 가로세로로 이리저리 다녀 보아라. 내가 너에게 그 땅을 주마.”	Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
18	아브람은 천막을 가지고 옮겨 가다가 헤브론에 있는 마므레의 참나무들이 있는 데서 살았다. 아브람은 거기서 여호와를 위해 제단을 만들었다.	Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord.
