1	아브람이 여호와의 말씀대로 가다 여호와께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. “너의 땅과 친척과 아버지 집에서 떠나 내가 너에게 보여 줄 땅으로 가거라.	Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2	너를 큰 민족으로 만들고 너에게 복을 내려 너의 이름을 떨치게 해 주마. 그러니 너는 복이 되어라!	And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3	너를 축복하는 사람들에게는 내가 복을 내리고, 너를 업신여기는 사람들에게는 저주를 내릴 것이다. 땅의 모든 종족이 네 덕분에 복받을 것이다.”	And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4	아브람은 여호와께서 그에게 말씀하신 대로 갔고, 롯도 그와 함께 갔다. 하란에서 나올 때 아브람은 75세였다.	So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5	아브람은 아내 사래와 조카 롯을 데리고 갔다. 그들이 모은 재산을 다 가지고, 하란에서 손에 넣은 사람들도 데리고 갔다. 그들은 가나안 땅으로 가려고 나왔다. 마침내 그들이 가나안 땅에 다다랐다.	And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6	아브람은 그 땅을 지나 세겜의 거룩한 장소까지, 모레의 큰 참나무가 있는 데까지 갔다. 그때에는 가나안 사람들이 그 땅에 살고 있었다.	And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7	여호와께서 아브람에게 나타나셔서 말씀하셨다. “너의 후손에게 내가 이 땅을 주마.” 아브람은 자신에게 나타나신 여호와를 위해 거기에 제단을 만들었다.	And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.
8	아브람은 거기서부터 베델 동쪽의 산지로 옮겨 가서 천막을 쳤다. 그 서쪽에 베델이, 동쪽에 아이가 있었다. 아브람은 여호와를 위해 거기에 제단을 만들고 여호와의 이름을 불렀다.	And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beth–el, and pitched his tent, having Beth–el on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.
9	그리고 아브람은 길을 나서서 네게브로 계속 나아갔다. (; )	And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
10	아브람과 사래가 이집트에서 어려움을 겪다 그 땅에 흉년이 들었다. 그래서 아브람은 이집트에서 나그네로 살려고 그리로 내려갔다. 흉년이 그 땅에서 심해졌기 때문이다.	And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11	이집트에 가까이 이르렀을 때에, 아브람이 자기 아내 사래에게 말했다. “여보, 당신은 모습이 아름다운 여자라는 것을 나는 잘 알아요.	And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12	이집트 사람들이 당신을 보면, 내 아내라고 생각하고는 나를 죽이고 당신은 살려 둘 거예요.	Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13	부디 당신이 내 누이라고 말해 주세요. 그러면 당신 덕분에 내가 잘되고, 당신 덕분에 내 목숨을 건질 겁니다.”	Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14	아브람이 이집트에 들어갔을 때에, 이집트 사람들이 사래를 보았다. 참 아름다웠다.	And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15	파라오의 고위 관리들도 사래를 보고는 파라오 앞에서 그를 칭찬했다. 그리고 사람들이 사래를 파라오의 왕궁으로 데려갔다.	The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
16	파라오는 사래를 봐서 아브람에게 잘해 주었다. 양 떼, 소 떼, 수탕나귀들, 남자 노예들과 여자 노예들, 암탕나귀들, 낙타들이 아브람의 것이 되었다.	And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17	그러나 여호와께서는 파라오에게 큰 재앙을 내리셨다. 파라오 왕궁 사람들에게도 내리셨다. 아브람의 아내 사래의 일 때문이었다.	And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.
18	그래서 파라오가 아브람을 불러들여 말했다. “도대체 나한테 무슨 짓을 한 것이오? 왜 사래가 아내라고 나한테 밝히지 않았소?	And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19	왜 ‘그는 저의 누이입니다.’라고 말해서, 내가 사래를 아내로 맞아들이게 했소? 그렇지만 이제는, 여기, 그대의 아내가 있으니 데리고 가시오.”	Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20	파라오가 아브람을 두고 사람들에게 명령을 내리자, 그들은 아브람과 그의 아내와 아브람에게 있는 모든 것을 내보냈다.	And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
