1	믿음이 세상을 이긴다 예수님이 그리스도이시라는 것을 믿는 사람은 다 하나님에게서 태어났습니다. 낳으신 분을 사랑하는 사람은 다 그분한테서 태어난 이도 사랑합니다.	Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2	이것으로 우리가 하나님의 자녀들을 사랑한다는 것을 알아차립니다. 곧 우리가 하나님을 사랑하며 하나님의 계명들을 실행한다면 말입니다.	By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3	이것이 하나님을 사랑하는 것이니까요. 곧 우리가 하나님의 계명들을 지키는 것이요. 그리고 하나님의 계명들은 버거운 것이 아닙니다.	For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4	하나님에게서 태어난 것은 다 세상을 이기기 때문입니다. 이것이 세상을 이긴 승리입니다. 곧 우리의 믿음입니다.	For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5	세상을 이기는 사람이 누구입니까? 예수님이 하나님의 아들이시라는 것을 믿는 사람 말고 누구이겠습니까?	Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6	예수님이 하나님의 아들이심에 대한 증언 이분은 물과 피를 거쳐 오신 분인데, 곧 예수 그리스도이십니다. 이분은 물로만이 아니라, 물과 피로 오셨습니다. 성령님은 증언하시는 분이십니다. 성령님은 진리이시기 때문입니다.	This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7	증언하시는 분은 셋입니다.	For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8	성령님과 물과 피입니다. 또 이 셋은 하나로 일치합니다.	And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
9	우리가 사람들의 증언을 받아들인다고 하면, 하나님의 증언은 더 대단한 것입니다. 이것이 하나님의 증언이기 때문입니다. 곧 하나님이 자신의 아들에 대하여 증언하셨기 때문입니다.	If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
10	하나님의 아들을 믿는 사람은 자기 안에 증언을 가지고 있습니다. 하나님을 믿지 않는 사람은 하나님을 거짓말쟁이로 만들어 놓았습니다. 그 사람은 하나님이 자신의 아들에 대해 증언하신 그 증언을 믿지 않았기 때문입니다.	He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11	증언은 이것입니다. 곧 영원한 생명을 하나님이 우리에게 주셨다는 것입니다. 그리고 이 생명은 하나님의 아들 안에 있습니다.	And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12	아들을 모시고 있는 사람은 생명을 가지고 있습니다. 그러나 하나님의 아들을 모시고 있지 않는 사람은 생명을 가지고 있지 않습니다.	He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13	영원한 생명에 대한 확신 내가 이런 것들을 여러분에게, 곧 하나님의 아들의 이름을 믿는 분들에게 써 보냅니다. 그것은 여러분이 영원한 생명을 가지고 있다는 것을 알게 하기 위해서입니다.	These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
14	이것이 하나님에 대해 우리가 가진 확신입니다. 곧 하나님의 뜻을 따라 우리가 무언가를 달라고 하면 하나님이 우리 말을 들으신다는 것입니다.	And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15	우리가 무엇을 달라고 하든지 하나님이 우리 말을 들으신다는 것을 알고 있다고 합시다. 그렇다면 우리가 달라고 한 것들, 곧 우리가 하나님께 달라고 한 것들을 우리가 받아 가지고 있다는 것을 알고 있습니다.	And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
16	누가 보니 자기의 형제자매가 죄를 짓고 있는데, 죽음에 이르게 하지 않는 죄라고 합시다. 그는 그 형제자매를 위해서 기도해야 합니다. 그러면 하나님이 그 사람에게 생명을 주실 것입니다. 곧 죽음에 이르게 하지 않는 죄를 짓고 있는 사람들에게는요. 그러나 죽음에 이르게 하는 죄가 있습니다. 나는 그런 죄에 대해서는 간구하라고 말하지 않습니다.	If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
17	온갖 불의한 것은 다 죄입니다. 그러나 죽음에 이르게 하지 않는 죄가 있습니다.	All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
18	우리는 알고 있습니다, 하나님에게서 태어난 사람은 누구도 죄를 짓지 않는다는 것을요. 오히려 하나님에게서 태어난 사람은 자기 자신을 지킵니다. 그래서 악한 자가 그 사람을 건드리지 않습니다.	We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
19	우리는 알고 있습니다, 우리가 하나님에게서 났다는 것을요. 그런데 온 세상은 악한 자의 손아귀 안에 놓여 있습니다.	And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
20	그러나 우리는 알고 있습니다, 하나님의 아들이 오셔서 우리의 생각을 열어 주셨다는 것을, 그리하여 우리가 그 참되신 분을 알 수 있게 하셨다는 것을요. 우리는 그 참되신 분, 곧 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도 안에 있습니다. 이분은 참하나님이시며 영원한 생명이십니다.	And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
21	자녀 여러분, 여러분은 우상들로부터 스스로를 지키십시오!	Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
