1	일곱째 달에 일어난 일이다. 이스마엘이라는 사람이 있었다. 느다냐의 아들이자 엘리사마의 손자인데 임금 집안의 후손으로 임금을 돕는 높은 자리에 있었다. 이 사람이 자신과 함께 있던 열 명을 데리고 아히감의 아들 그달랴를 만나러 미스바로 왔다. 그들은 거기 미스바에서 함께 음식을 먹었다.	Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.
2	느다냐의 아들 이스마엘과 그가 데려온 열 명이 일어나, 아히감의 아들이자 사반의 손자인 그달랴를 칼로 쳐서 죽였다. 그달랴는 바빌론 임금이 그 땅을 맡아 돌보게 임명한 사람이었다.	Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
3	미스바에서 그달랴와 함께 있던 모든 유다 사람도 이스마엘이 쳐서 죽였다. 마침 거기 있었던 칼데아 군인들도 죽였다.	Ishmael also slew all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.
4	이스마엘이 아무도 모르게 그달랴를 죽인 그다음날에 일어난 일이다.	And it came to pass the second day after he had slain Gedaliah, and no man knew it,
5	사람들이 세겜과 실로와 사마리아에서부터 왔다. 80명이나 되었다. 수염을 깎고 옷을 찢고 자기 몸을 베어 상처를 낸 채로 왔다. 그들의 손에는 여호와의 집에 바칠 제물과 향품을 들고 있었다.	That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the Lord.
6	그래서 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 그들을 맞으러 미스바에서 나갔다. 계속 울면서 걸어갔다. 그들과 마주치자 그들에게 말했다. “아히감의 아들 그달랴에게 가시지요.”	And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.
7	그런데 그들이 도시 한가운데에 이르렀을 때 일어난 일이다. 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘은 그들을 도살하여 웅덩이에 던져 넣어 버렸다. 이스마엘이 자기와 함께한 사람들을 거느리고 그렇게 했다.	And it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that were with him.
8	이스마엘 일행이 암몬 사람들에게 가다 그들 가운데 열 명이 있었는데 이들이 이스마엘에게 말했다. “우리를 죽이지 마십시오. 우리에게는 들판에 숨겨 둔 보물들이 있습니다. 곧 밀과 보리와 기름과 꿀이 있습니다.” 그러자 이스마엘이 멈추었다. 그의 형제들 가운데서 이들은 죽이지 않았다.	But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbare, and slew them not among their brethren.
9	이스마엘이 쳐서 죽인 사람들의 시체를 다 던져 넣은 웅덩이는 큰 웅덩이였다. 그 웅덩이는 아사 임금이 이스라엘 임금 바아사 때문에 만든 것이었다. 그 웅덩이를 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 찔러 죽인 시체로 가득 채웠다.	Now the pit wherein Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliah, was it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with them that were slain.
10	그러고는 이스마엘이 미스바에 남아 있던 백성을 다 사로잡았다. 그들은 임금의 딸들과 또 느부사라단 호위대장이 아히감의 아들 그달랴를 임명하여 맡아 돌보도록 미스바에 남겨 두었던 모든 백성이었다. 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 그들을 사로잡고는 암몬 사람들에게로 건너가려고 길을 나섰다.	Then Ishmael carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar–adan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.
11	가레아흐의 아들 요하난과 그와 함께한 군대의 모든 지휘관이 소식을 들었다. 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 온갖 악한 짓을 저질렀다는 것이다.	But when Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done,
12	그들이 모든 사람을 데리고 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘과 싸우러 가서, 기브온에 있는 큰 물 곁에서 그와 마주쳤다.	Then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.
13	이스마엘과 함께한 모든 백성이 가레아흐의 아들 요하난을 보았다. 요하난과 함께한 군대의 모든 지휘관도 보았다. 그러고는 기뻐했다.	Now it came to pass, that when all the people which were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.
14	이스마엘이 미스바에서부터 사로잡아 온 모든 백성이 돌아서서, 가레아흐의 아들 요하난에게로 돌아갔다.	So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah cast about and returned, and went unto Johanan the son of Kareah.
15	그러자 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 여덟 명을 데리고 요하난 앞에서 달아나서, 암몬 사람들에게로 갔다.	But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.
16	요하난 일행이 이집트로 가려고 하다 가레아흐의 아들 요하난과 그와 함께한 군대의 모든 지휘관은 남은 백성을 모두 데려갔다. 이들은 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘한테서 되찾아 미스바에서 데려온 사람들이었다. 이스마엘이 아히감의 아들 그달랴를 쳐서 죽인 뒤였다. 요하난은 용사들과 군인들과 여자들과 아이들과 왕궁 관리들을 데려갔다. 기브온에서 되찾아 데려온 사람들이었다.	Then took Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after that he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon:
17	그들은 길을 나서서 베들레헴 옆에 있는 게룻김함에 머물렀다. 이집트로 들어가려고 한 것이다.	And they departed, and dwelt in the habitation of Chimham, which is by Beth–lehem, to go to enter into Egypt,
18	칼데아 사람들한테서 벗어나려 한 것이다. 그들이 칼데아 사람들을 두려워했던 것이다. 바빌론 임금이 그 땅을 맡아 돌보도록 임명한 아히감의 아들 그달랴를 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 쳐서 죽였기 때문이다.	Because of the Chaldeans: for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.
