1	호세아가 이스라엘 임금이 되다 유다 임금 아하스 열두째 해에, 엘라의 아들 호세아가 사마리아에서 이스라엘을 다스리는 임금이 되었다. 9년을 다스렸다.	In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea the son of Elah to reign in Samaria over Israel nine years.
2	그는 여호와께서 보시기에 나쁜 짓을 저질렀다. 다만 그의 앞에 있던 이스라엘 임금들만큼은 아니었다.	And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, but not as the kings of Israel that were before him.
3	아시리아 임금 살만에셀이 그를 치러 올라왔다. 호세아는 그의 신하가 되어 그에게 선물을 바쳤다.	Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.
4	아시리아 임금은 호세아가 일을 꾸민다는 것을 알게 되었다. 그가 심부름꾼을 이집트 임금 소에게 보냈고, 해마다 아시리아 임금에게 바치던 선물을 올려 보내지 않았던 것이다. 아시리아 임금은 그를 잡아다가 감옥에 가두었다.	And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea: for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and brought no present to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.
5	아시리아가 사마리아를 차지하다 아시리아 임금이 올라와 온 나라를 두루 다녔다. 사마리아에 올라와 3년 동안 그 도시를 둘러쌌다.	Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.
6	호세아 아홉째 해에 아시리아 임금이 사마리아를 차지했다. 그는 이스라엘 사람들을 아시리아로 사로잡아 갔다. 그들을 할라흐, 고잔에 있는 하볼강 가, 메디아의 도시들에 살게 했다.	In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
7	이스라엘 사람들이 여호와 자신들의 하나님께 죄를 지었기 때문이다. 그분은 그들을 이집트 땅에서, 이집트 임금 파라오의 손 아래에서 올라오게 하신 분이다. 그런데도 그들은 다른 신들을 두려워했던 것이다.	For so it was, that the children of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
8	그들은 다른 민족들 곧 여호와께서 이스라엘 사람들 앞에서 쫓아내신 민족들의 관습을 따라 걸어갔다. 또한 이스라엘 임금들의 관습을 따라 살았다.	And walked in the statutes of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made.
9	이스라엘 사람들은 여호와 자신들의 하나님께서 보시기에 올바르지 않은 일을 몰래 했다. 자신들이 사는 도시마다 파수꾼들의 망대부터 요새까지 높은곳(산당)들을 세운 것이다.	And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the Lord their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
10	모든 높은 언덕 위에, 모든 울창한 나무 아래에 기둥과 아세라 말뚝을 세웠다.	And they set them up images and groves in every high hill, and under every green tree:
11	그곳 모든 높은곳(산당)에서 향을 피워 바쳤다. 여호와께서 그들 앞에서 사로잡혀 가게 하신 민족들처럼 한 것이다. 그렇게 나쁜 짓을 저질러서 여호와를 화나시게 했다.	And there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the heathen whom the Lord carried away before them; and wrought wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger:
12	그들은 우상을 섬겼다. 여호와께서 그들에게 “이런 짓 하지 마라.” 하고 말씀하셨던 일이다.	For they served idols, whereof the Lord had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing.
13	여호와는 자신의 모든 예언자와 예견자를 통해 이스라엘과 유다에 주의를 주셨다. “너희들이 가고 있는 나쁜 길에서 돌아서라. 나의 명령과 규정을 지켜라. 내가 너희 조상들에게 명령한 모든 가르침대로, 나의 종 예언자들을 통해 너희에게 보낸 모든 가르침대로 해라.”	Yet the Lord testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.
14	그러나 그들은 듣지 않고, 목을 꼿꼿이 세웠다. 여호와 자신들의 하나님을 믿지 않았던 그들 조상들의 목과도 같았다.	Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the Lord their God.
15	그분의 규정들을 저버렸고, 그분이 자기들의 조상들과 맺었던 언약을 저버렸다. 그분이 자기들에게 단단히 일러 주신 증언들을 저버렸다. 헛된 것을 따라 걷다가 헛된 것에 빠졌고, 자기들을 둘러싼 민족들을 따라갔다. 여호와께서 그들처럼 살지 말라고 하셨던 바로 그 민족들을 말이다.	And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them.
16	여호와 자신들의 하나님께서 주신 모든 명령을 버리고, 쇠붙이를 녹여 송아지 두 마리를 만들었다. 아세라 말뚝을 만들고, 하늘의 모든 별에게 엎드려 절하고 바알을 섬겼다.	And they left all the commandments of the Lord their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
17	자기 아들과 딸을 불 가운데로 지나가게 했고, 점도 치고 점괘도 보았다. 정신이 팔려 여호와께서 보시기에 나쁜 짓을 저질렀고, 그래서 그분을 화나시게 했다.	And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
18	여호와는 이스라엘에게 무척 화가 나셔서, 그들을 그분 앞에서 남김없이 치워 버리셨다. 다만 유다 지파만 홀로 남았다.	Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.
19	유다 또한 자신들의 하나님 여호와의 명령을 지키지 않았다. 그들은 이스라엘 사람들이 만든 규정을 따라 걸었다.	Also Judah kept not the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.
20	여호와는 이스라엘의 후손을 모두 버리셨다. 그들을 괴롭게 하셨다. 빼앗는 사람들 손에 그들을 넘겨, 마침내 그들을 자신 앞에서 내치셨다.	And the Lord rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.
21	그분이 이스라엘을 다윗의 집에서 찢어 내시자, 그들은 느밧의 아들 여로보암을 임금으로 세웠다. 여로보암은 이스라엘이 여호와를 따르지 못하게 몰아갔고, 그들이 큰 죄를 짓게 했다.	For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drave Israel from following the Lord, and made them sin a great sin.
22	이스라엘 사람들은 여로보암이 갔던 온갖 죄의 길로 걸었다. 거기에서 떠나지 않았다.	For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them;
23	마침내 여호와는 이스라엘을 자신 앞에서 내쫓으셨다. 자신의 종 모든 예언자를 통해 말씀하신 그대로였다. 이스라엘은 자기들이 살던 땅을 떠나 아시리아로 사로잡혀 가서, 오늘까지 거기에 있다.	Until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.
24	여러 민족이 사마리아로 와서 살다 아시리아 임금은 바빌론, 구다, 아와, 하맛, 스발와임에서 사람들을 사로잡아 왔다. 그들을 이스라엘 사람들 대신 사마리아 여러 도시에 살게 했다. 그들은 사마리아를 차지하고 그곳 여러 도시에 살았다.	And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.
25	그곳에 가서 살기 시작할 때 그들은 여호와를 두려워하지 않았다. 여호와는 그들 가운데 사자들을 보내셨고, 사자들은 그들 가운데 몇 사람을 죽였다.	And so it was at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not the Lord: therefore the Lord sent lions among them, which slew some of them.
26	그들은 아시리아 임금에게 말했다. “임금님이 여러 민족을 데려오셔서 사마리아 여러 도시에 살게 하셨습니다. 그런데 그들은 그 땅 신의 법을 알지 못합니다. 그래서 그 신이 그들 가운데 사자들을 보내셨습니다. 보십시오, 사자들이 그들을 죽이고 있습니다. 그들이 그 땅 신의 법을 알지 못하기 때문입니다.”	Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast removed, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the manner of the God of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the manner of the God of the land.
27	그러자 아시리아 임금이 명령했다. “너희가 거기서 사로잡아 온 제사장 가운데 한 명을 그리로 가게 해라. 가서 그곳에 살면서 그들에게 그 땅 신의 법을 가르치게 하여라.”	Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
28	그리하여 그들이 사마리아에서 사로잡아 온 제사장 가운데 한 명이 그리로 갔다. 그는 베델에서 살면서 여호와를 어떻게 두려워해야 하는지를 가르쳤다.	Then one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Beth–el, and taught them how they should fear the Lord.
29	민족마다 자기네 신을 만들어 사마리아 사람들이 만들어 놓은 높은곳(산당)들에 두었다. 민족마다 자기들이 사는 도시에 그렇게 했다.	Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.
30	바빌론 사람들은 숙곳브놋을 만들었고, 구다 사람들은 네르갈을 만들었다. 하맛 사람들은 아시마를 만들었다.	And the men of Babylon made Succoth–benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,
31	아와 사람들은 닙하스와 다르닥을 만들었다. 스발와임 사람들은 아드람멜렉과 아남멜렉에게 자기 자녀를 불살라 바쳤다. 이 신들은 스발와임 사람들이 섬기는 신들이다.	And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
32	그러면서도 그들은 여호와를 두려워했다. 자기들 가운데 가리지 않고 아무나 높은곳(산당)들의 제사장으로 세웠다. 이 제사장들이 그들을 위해 높은곳(산당)들의 신전들에서 일했다.	So they feared the Lord, and made unto themselves of the lowest of them priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.
33	그들은 여호와를 두려워했다. 그러나 또한 사로잡혀 오기 전에 함께 살던 여러 민족의 법을 따라 자기네 신들도 섬기고 있었다.	They feared the Lord, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.
34	오늘까지 그들은 앞서 지키던 법을 따라 살고 있다. 그들은 여호와를 두려워하지 않고, 여호와께서 야곱 자손에게 주신 그들의 규정과 법과 가르침과 명령대로 살지 않는다. 여호와는 야곱에게 이스라엘이라는 이름을 지어 주신 분이시다.	Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the Lord, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;
35	여호와는 야곱 자손과 언약을 하시며 그들에게 명령하셨다. “너희는 다른 신들을 두려워해서는 안 된다. 그들에게 엎드려 절해서도 안 되고, 섬겨서도 안 된다. 그들에게 제물을 바쳐서도 안 된다.	With whom the Lord had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them:
36	힘차게 팔을 뻗어 이집트 땅에서 너희를 이끌어 올린 여호와 그만을 두려워해야 한다. 그에게 엎드려 절하고 그에게 제물을 바쳐야 한다.	But the Lord, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.
37	여호와가 너희에게 적어 준 규정과 법과 가르침과 명령을 늘 지키며 살아야 한다. 다른 신들을 두려워해서는 안 된다.	And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.
38	내가 너희와 했던 언약을 잊으면 안 된다. 다른 신들을 두려워해서는 안 된다.	And the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods.
39	여호와 너희의 하나님만을 두려워해야 한다. 하나님은 너희를 너희 모든 원수의 손에서부터 빼내 줄 것이다.”	But the Lord your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.
40	그러나 그들은 듣지 않았고, 앞서 지키던 법을 따라 살고 있었다.	Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner.
41	이 민족들은 여호와를 두려워하면서 그들의 우상도 섬기고 있었다. 그 자녀와 자손도 자기네 조상들이 하던 대로 오늘까지 그렇게 하고 있다.	So these nations feared the Lord, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children’s children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.
