1	히스기야가 유다 임금이 되다 이스라엘 임금 곧 엘라의 아들 호세아 셋째 해에, 유다 임금 아하스의 아들 히스기야가 임금이 되었다.	Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
2	그가 임금이 되었을 때 25세였다. 29년 동안 예루살렘에서 다스렸다. 그의 어머니 이름은 아비야이고 스가랴의 딸이었다.	Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.
3	히스기야는 여호와 보시기에 올곧은 일을 했다. 자기 조상 다윗이 했던 대로 다 한 것이다.	And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did.
4	그는 높은곳(산당)들을 없애 버리고 기둥을 깨뜨리고 아세라 말뚝을 무너뜨렸다. 모세가 놋으로 만든 뱀을 산산이 깨뜨렸다. 그때까지 이스라엘 사람들이 그 뱀한테 향을 피워 바치고 있었기 때문이다. 그 뱀은 느후스단이라 불렸다.	He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.
5	여호와 이스라엘의 하나님을 그는 의지했다. 그를 이은 유다 임금들 가운데 그 누구도 그와 같지 않았다. 그의 앞에 있던 모든 임금도 마찬가지였다.	He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
6	그는 여호와께 붙어 있었고, 그분을 따르는 길에서 떠나지 않았다. 여호와께서 모세에게 주신 명령을 지켰다.	For he clave to the Lord, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses.
7	여호와는 그와 함께하셨다. 그래서 어디로 나가든지 다 잘되었다. 그러더니 그가 아시리아 임금에게 맞서 대들었고, 그를 섬기지 않았다.	And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
8	히스기야는 가자와 그 둘레 지역까지 필리스티아 사람들을 쳤다. 파수꾼들의 망대부터 요새까지 그렇게 했다.	He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.
9	히스기야 임금 넷째 해였다. 이스라엘 임금 곧 엘라의 아들 호세아 일곱째 해였다. 아시리아 임금 살만에셀이 사마리아를 치러 올라와 그 도시를 에워쌌다.	And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.
10	3년 만에 도시를 차지했다. 히스기야 여섯째 해였고 이스라엘 임금 호세아 아홉째 해였다. 사마리아가 넘어갔다.	And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
11	아시리아 임금이 이스라엘 사람들을 아시리아로 사로잡아 갔다. 그들을 할라흐, 고잔에 있는 하볼강 가, 또 메디아의 도시들로 끌어갔다.	And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:
12	이스라엘 사람들이 자신들의 하나님 여호와의 목소리를 듣지 않았기 때문이다. 그분과 했던 언약을 어기고 여호와의 종 모세가 명령한 것을 모두 어겼기 때문이다. 그들은 듣지도 않고 실행하지도 않았다. (; )	Because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.
13	아시리아가 예루살렘을 위협하다 히스기야 임금 열넷째 해에, 아시리아 임금 산헤립이 유다의 모든 튼튼한 도시를 치러 올라와서 그 도시들을 빼앗았다.	Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.
14	유다 임금 히스기야는 아시리아 임금에게 라기스로 사람을 보내서 말했다. “내가 잘못을 저질렀습니다. 나에게서 떠나 돌아가 주십시오. 나한테 하라고 하시는 것이 있으면 해 드리겠습니다.” 그러자 아시리아 임금은 유다 임금 히스기야에게 은 10.2톤과 금 1톤을 내놓으라고 했다.	And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
15	히스기야는 여호와의 집과 왕궁 보물 창고에 있는 은을 다 내주었다.	And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king’s house.
16	그때 히스기야는 여호와의 성전 문과 기둥에 입혀 둔 것을 떼어 냈다. 유다 임금 히스기야가 스스로 입혔던 것이다. 그것을 아시리아 임금에게 주었다.	At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17	아시리아 임금은 다르단, 랍사리스, 랍사게를 라기스에서 히스기야 임금에게 보냈다. 큰 군대와 함께 예루살렘으로 보냈다. 그들은 예루살렘으로 올라왔다. 올라와서 윗못의 물길 곁에 섰다. 빨래꾼의 밭 큰길가였다.	And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab–shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
18	그들이 임금을 불렀다. 그러자 힐기야의 아들 엘리아김 총리, 셉나 서기관, 아삽의 아들 요아흐 기록담당관이 그들에게로 나왔다.	And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
19	랍사게가 그들에게 말했다. “히스기야에게 말해 주어라. ‘큰 임금이신 아시리아 임금님이 이렇게 말씀하셨다. 「그대가 이토록 의지하는 것이 무엇인가, 그대가 의지하는 것이?	And Rab–shakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
20	그대가 하는 말은 입술의 말뿐이로구나. 전략과 능력을 갖추어야 전쟁을 할 텐데! 지금 그대는 누구를 의지하고서 나한테 맞서 대들었는가?	Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
21	이제, 보라, 그대가 자신을 위해 믿는 것은 부러진 이 갈대 지팡이 이집트로구나. 하지만 그 갈대 지팡이는 그것에 기대는 사람의 손바닥을 찌르고 뚫을 것이다. 그와 같은 것이 이집트 임금 파라오이다. 그를 믿는 모든 사람에게 그럴 것이다.	Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.
22	아니면 그대들은 나에게 『우리는 여호와 우리 하나님을 의지합니다.』 하고 말할 수도 있을 것이다. 그런데 이 하나님은, 히스기야가 그분의 높은곳(산당)들과 제단들을 없애 놓고서, 유다와 예루살렘에게 말할 때는 『이 제단 앞에서만 여호와를 예배하라, 오직 예루살렘에서!』 하고 말한 그 하나님이 아니냐?」	But if ye say unto me, We trust in the Lord our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
23	그러니 이제 그대는 내 주인과, 곧 아시리아 임금님과 내기를 해 보아라. 내가 그대에게 말 2,000필을 내주겠다. 그대 쪽에서 그대가 그 위에 탈 사람을 내줄 수 있겠는가?	Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
24	그대가 내 주인의 대단찮은 신하들 가운데서 총독 하나라도 어떻게 쫓아 버릴 수 있겠는가? 그대는 이집트를 의지하여 전투수레와 기마병들을 확보하려고 한다.	How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
25	지금 여호와의 동의 없이 내가 이곳을 치러 올라와서 망가뜨렸겠는가? 여호와께서 나에게 「이 땅을 치러 올라와서 이 땅을 망가뜨려라.」 하고 말씀하신 것이다.’”	Am I now come up without the Lord against this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
26	그러자 힐기야의 아들 엘리아김이 셉나와 요아흐와 함께 랍사게에게 말했다. “당신의 종들인 우리에게 아람말로 말씀해 주십시오. 우리는 아람말을 알아들으니까요. 우리하고 유다말로는 말씀하지 말아 주십시오. 성벽 위에서 백성이 귀 기울이고 있습니다.”	Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rab–shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
27	랍사게가 그들에게 말했다. “너의 주인과 너와 관련하여서만 나의 주인께서 나를 보내어 이 말들을 전하게 하신 것이냐? 성벽 위에 앉아 있는 사람들과도 관계있는 것이 아니냐? 그들은 너희와 함께 자기 똥을 먹고 자기 오줌을 마시게 될 것이다.”	But Rab–shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
28	랍사게가 일어나서 유다말로 큰 소리로 외쳤다. 그가 똑똑히 말했다. “너희는 큰 임금이신 아시리아 임금님의 말씀을 들어라.	Then Rab–shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:
29	임금님이 이렇게 말씀하셨다. ‘히스기야가 너희를 속이지 못하게 해라. 그가 나의 손에서부터 너희를 구해 줄 수 없기 때문이다.	Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:
30	히스기야가 너희에게 여호와를 의지하라고 해도 따르지 마라. 히스기야는 이렇게 말한다. 「여호와께서 반드시 우리를 구해 주실 것입니다. 그래서 이 도시는 아시리아 임금의 손에 넘어가지 않을 것입니다.」	Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
31	너희는 히스기야의 말을 듣지 마라.’ 아시리아 임금님이 이렇게 말씀하셨기 때문이다. ‘너희는 복된 평화 조약을 나와 맺기로 하고 나에게로 나아와라. 그러고는 저마다 자기 포도와 자기 무화과를 먹어라. 저마다 자기 우물물을 마셔라.	Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:
32	마침내 내가 가서 너희를 너희의 땅과 똑같은 땅으로 데려가겠다. 곡식과 새 포도주의 땅, 빵과 포도밭이 있는 땅으로 데려가겠다. 기름 나는 올리브나무와 꿀이 있는 땅으로 데려가겠다. 그러면 너희는 살아남을 것이다. 죽지 않을 것이다. 히스기야의 말을 듣지 마라. 너희를 꼬드기고 있기 때문이다. 히스기야는 「여호와께서 우리를 구해 주실 것입니다.」 하고 말해 왔다.	Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The Lord will deliver us.
33	민족들의 신들 가운데 어느 신이 자기의 땅을 아시리아 임금의 손에서 구해 준 적이 진짜 있었느냐?	Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
34	하맛과 아르밧의 신들이 어디 있느냐? 스발와임과 헤나와 아와의 신들이 어디 있느냐? 참으로 그 신들이 사마리아를 나의 손에서 구해 준 적이 있었느냐?	Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?
35	여러 땅의 모든 신들 가운데 어느 신이 자기의 땅을 나의 손에서 구해 준 적이 있었느냐? 그런데도 여호와가 예루살렘을 나의 손에서 구해 주리라는 것이냐?’”	Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?
36	백성이 입을 다물었다. 랍사게에게 한 마디도 대답하지 않았다. 그에게 대답하지 말라는 것이 임금의 명령이었기 때문이다.	But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
37	힐기야의 아들로 왕궁 일을 맡고 있던 엘리아김이 셉나 서기관과 아삽의 아들 요아흐 기록담당관과 함께 히스기야에게 돌아왔다. 자신들의 옷을 찢은 채로였다. 그들은 히스기야에게 랍사게의 말을 알려 주었다.	Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab–shakeh.
