1	아마샤가 여호아스와 싸우다 이스라엘 임금 곧 여호아하스의 아들 여호아스 둘째 해에, 유다 임금 곧 요아스의 아들 아마샤가 임금이 되었다.	In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.
2	그가 임금이 되었을 때 25세였다. 29년을 예루살렘에서 임금으로 다스렸다. 그의 어머니 이름은 여호앗단이고 예루살렘 사람이었다.	He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
3	아마샤는 여호와께서 보시기에 올곧은 일을 했다. 다만 그의 조상 다윗처럼은 아니었다. 자기 아버지 요아스가 했던 대로 모두 따라 했다.	And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.
4	다만 높은곳(산당)들은 없애지 않았다. 아직도 백성은 높은곳(산당)들에서 제물을 바치며 향을 피워 바치고 있었다.	Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.
5	그는 왕권을 자기 손안에 확고히 한 다음, 임금인 자기 아버지를 쳐 죽인 신하들을 쳐 죽였다.	And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.
6	임금을 죽인 사람들의 자식은 죽이지 않았다. 모세의 율법 문서에 적힌 대로 한 것이다. 거기에 여호와께서 이렇게 명령하셨다. “아버지를 자식 때문에 죽이면 안 되고, 자식을 아버지 때문에 죽여서도 안 된다. 사람마다 자기 죄에 대해서만 죽여야 한다.”	But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
7	그는 소금 골짜기에서 에돔 사람 10,000명을 쳐 죽이고 나서, 싸움을 벌여 셀라를 차지했다. 그는 그 도시의 이름을 욕드엘이라고 불렀는데 오늘까지 그렇게 불린다.	He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
8	그때 아마샤가 여호아하스의 아들이자 예후의 손자인 이스라엘 임금 여호아스에게 심부름꾼들을 보내서 말했다. “자, 맞붙어 싸우러 나오시오.”	Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.
9	그러자 이스라엘 임금 여호아스가 유다 임금 아마샤에게 사람을 보내서 말했다. “레바논에 있는 가시풀이 레바논에 있는 삼나무(백향목)에게 사람을 보내서 말했소. ‘너의 딸을 내 아들에게 아내로 다오.’ 그랬더니 레바논에 있는 들짐승이 지나가면서 그 가시풀을 짓밟아 버렸소.	And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
10	그대가 에돔을 무찌르긴 했소. 그래서 그대 마음이 잔뜩 들떠 있는데, 대접받으면서 집에나 앉아 있으시오. 왜 나쁜 일만 부추기고 그대 자신과 유다가 함께 쓰러지려는 거요?”	Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
11	그러나 아마샤는 말을 듣지 않았다. 그래서 이스라엘 임금 여호아스가 쳐들어왔다. 그와 유다 임금 아마샤는 유다에 있는 벳세메스에서 맞붙어 싸웠다.	But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth–shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
12	유다는 이스라엘 앞에서 무너졌고, 그들은 저마다 자기 천막으로 달아났다.	And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.
13	요아스의 아들이자 아하시야의 손자인 유다 임금 아마샤를 이스라엘 임금 여호아스가 벳세메스에서 사로잡았다. 그리고 그는 예루살렘으로 들어와서, 예루살렘 성벽을 ‘에브라임 성문’에서 ‘모퉁이 성문’까지 200미터 허물었다.	And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth–shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
14	그는 모든 금과 은, 여호와의 집에서 찾아낸 모든 그릇, 왕궁 보물 창고에 있던 것을 빼앗았다. 또 사람들을 볼모로 잡았다. 그러고는 사마리아로 돌아갔다.	And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15	여호아스가 했던 나머지 일과 그가 보여 준 힘과 유다 임금 아마샤와 싸웠던 일은 이스라엘 임금들의 역사일지에 적혀 있지 않은가?	Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16	여호아스가 자기 조상들과 함께 누워, 이스라엘 임금들과 함께 사마리아에 묻혔다. 그의 아들 여로보암이 그를 이어 임금이 되었다. ()	And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.
17	아마샤가 죽다 요아스의 아들인 유다 임금 아마샤는 여호아하스의 아들인 이스라엘 임금 여호아스가 죽고 나서 15년을 더 살았다.	And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
18	아마샤에 관한 나머지 일은 유다 임금들의 역사일지에 적혀 있지 않은가?	And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
19	사람들이 예루살렘에서 그에게 맞서 일을 꾸몄다. 그래서 그는 라기스로 달아났다. 하지만 사람들은 그의 뒤를 쫓아 라기스로 사람을 보내어, 거기서 그를 죽였다.	Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.
20	그들은 그를 말에 실어 날랐다. 그는 예루살렘에서 다윗의 도시에 있는 자기 조상들 곁에 묻혔다.	And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
21	그러고는 유다의 온 백성이 아사랴를 데려왔다. 그는 16세였다. 그들이 그를 그의 아버지 아마샤를 이을 임금으로 세웠다.	And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.
22	그는 엘랏을 다시 세워 유다로 되돌려 놓았다. 아마샤 임금이 자기 조상들과 함께 누운 다음이었다.	He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
23	여로보암(2세)이 이스라엘 임금이 되다 유다 임금 곧 요아스의 아들 아마샤 열다섯째 해에, 여호아스의 아들 여로보암이 사마리아에서 이스라엘 임금이 되었다. 41년을 다스렸다.	In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.
24	그는 여호와께서 보시기에 나쁜 일을 저질렀다. 이스라엘을 죄짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 온갖 죄에서 떠나지 않았다.	And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
25	그는 이스라엘 국경을 하맛 길목에서 아라바 바다까지로 되돌려 놓았다. 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께서 그분의 종 아밋대의 아들 요나에게 하신 말씀대로였다. 이 사람은 가드헤벨에서 온 예언자였다.	He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath–hepher.
26	여호와께서 보시니 이스라엘이 무척 쓰라린 괴로움을 겪고 있었다. 매인 사람도 없었고 자유로운 사람도 없었고, 이스라엘을 도울 사람은 아무도 없었다.	For the Lord saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
27	여호와는 하늘 아래에서 이스라엘의 이름을 지워 버리겠다고 말씀하지 않으셨다. 그리하여 여호아스의 아들 여로보암의 손으로 그들을 건져 내셨다.	And the Lord said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28	여로보암에 관한 나머지 일과 그가 했던 모든 일과 그가 싸우면서 보여 준 힘은 이스라엘 임금들의 역사일지에 적혀 있지 않은가? 유다 아래에 있던 다마스쿠스와 하맛을 이스라엘로 되찾은 일도 마찬가지다.	Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
29	여로보암이 자기 조상들과 함께, 이스라엘 임금들과 함께 누웠다. 그의 아들 스가랴가 그를 이어 임금이 되었다.	And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.
