1	여호아하스가 이스라엘 임금이 되다 유다 임금 곧 아하시야의 아들 요아스 스물셋째 해에, 예후의 아들 여호아하스가 사마리아에서 이스라엘 임금이 되었다. 17년을 다스렸다.	In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.
2	그는 여호와께서 보시기에 나쁜 짓을 저질렀다. 이스라엘을 죄짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄의 길을 따라 걸었다. 거기에서 떠나지 않았다.	And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.
3	여호와는 이스라엘에게 화를 내셨다. 그래서 그들을 시리아 임금 하사엘의 손과 하사엘의 아들 벤하닷의 손에 잇따라 넘겨주셨다.	And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben–hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
4	그러자 여호아하스는 여호와의 노여움을 누그러뜨리려고 간절히 기도했다. 여호와는 그의 말을 들으셨다. 이스라엘이 고생하는 것을 보셨기 때문이다. 시리아 임금이 그들을 괴롭혔던 것이다.	And Jehoahaz besought the Lord, and the Lord hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
5	여호와는 건져 낼 사람을 이스라엘에게 보내 주셨다. 그리하여 그들은 시리아의 손 아래에서 빠져나왔다. 이스라엘 사람들은 옛날처럼 자신들의 천막에 살게 되었다.	(And the Lord gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
6	그러나 그들은 이스라엘을 죄짓게 한 여로보암 집안의 죄에서 떠나지 않고 그 길로 걸었다. 또한 아세라 말뚝도 사마리아에 그대로 서 있었다.	Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)
7	여호아하스에게 남은 군대는 기마병 50명, 전투수레 열 대, 보병 10,000명뿐이었다. 시리아 임금이 그들을 없애 버려 땅에 밟히는 먼지처럼 만들었던 것이다.	Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.
8	여호아하스에 관한 나머지 일과 그가 했던 모든 일과 그가 보여 준 힘은 이스라엘 임금들의 역사일지에 적혀 있지 않은가?	Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
9	여호아하스가 자기 조상들과 함께 누웠고, 사람들이 그를 사마리아에 묻었다. 그의 아들 여호아스가 그를 이어 임금이 되었다.	And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.
10	여호아스가 이스라엘 임금이 되다 유다 임금 요아스 서른일곱째 해에 여호아하스의 아들 여호아스가 사마리아에서 이스라엘을 다스리는 임금이 되었다. 16년을 다스렸다.	In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.
11	그는 여호와께서 보시기에 나쁜 짓을 저질렀다. 이스라엘을 죄짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 온갖 죄에서 떠나지 않고 그 길로 걸었다.	And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.
12	여호아스에 관한 나머지 일과 그가 했던 모든 일과 유다 임금 아마샤와 싸우면서 보여 준 힘은 이스라엘 임금들의 역사일지에 적혀 있지 않은가?	And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
13	여호아스가 자기 조상들과 함께 누웠다. 그러자 여로보암이 자기 임금자리에 앉았다. 여호아스는 이스라엘 임금들과 함께 사마리아에 묻혔다.	And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.
14	엘리사가 죽다 엘리사가 병이 들어 아팠다. 죽을병이었다. 이스라엘 임금 여호아스가 그에게로 내려왔다. 그는 엘리사 앞에서 울면서 말했다. “나의 아버지, 나의 아버지, 이스라엘의 전투수레와 기마병들 같은 예언자님!”	Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.
15	엘리사가 그에게 말했다. “활과 화살을 가져오세요.” 그는 활과 화살을 가져왔다.	And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.
16	그가 이스라엘 임금에게 말했다. “손으로 활을 당기십시오.” 그가 손으로 활을 당겼다. 그러자 엘리사는 자기 손을 임금의 손 위에 올려놓았다.	And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.
17	그러고는 말했다. “동쪽으로 난 창문을 여세요.” 창문을 열자 엘리사가 말했다. “쏘세요.” 그가 활을 쏘자 엘리사가 말했다. “여호와의 승리의 화살입니다. 시리아를 쏘는 승리의 화살이지요. 임금님은 아벡에서 시리아를 쳐서 끝장내실 겁니다.”	And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.
18	그가 이어서 “화살들을 잡으십시오.” 하고 말했고, 그가 잡았다. 엘리사가 이스라엘 임금에게 말했다. “땅을 치십시오.” 그가 세 번을 치고 멈췄다.	And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.
19	하나님의 사람이 그를 보고 노여워하면서 말했다. “다섯 번이나 여섯 번을 쳤다면, 임금님이 시리아를 쳐서 끝장냈을 겁니다. 이제는 시리아를 세 번만 무찌르실 겁니다.”	And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.
20	엘리사가 죽자, 사람들이 그를 묻었다. 해가 바뀔 때면 모압의 강도떼가 그 땅에 쳐들어오곤 했다.	And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.
21	한번은 사람들이 죽은 사람을 묻고 있었다. 아, 그러다가 강도떼를 보았다. 그래서 그들은 죽은 사람을 엘리사의 무덤에 던지고 가 버렸다. 죽은 사람은 엘리사의 뼈에 닿자, 살아나 자기 발로 일어섰다.	And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
22	이스라엘이 시리아를 무찌르다 시리아 임금 하사엘은 여호아하스가 다스리는 동안 늘 이스라엘을 괴롭혔다.	But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.
23	여호와는 그들을 불쌍히 여기시고 그들에게 자비를 베푸셔서 그들 편을 들어 주셨다. 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱과 맺으신 언약 때문이었다. 그들을 무너뜨리고 싶어 하지 않으셨다. 그들을 자신 앞에서 내치지 않으셨고 지금까지도 그렇다.	And the Lord was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
24	시리아 임금 하사엘이 죽고 그의 아들 벤하닷이 그를 이어 임금이 되었다.	So Hazael king of Syria died; and Ben–hadad his son reigned in his stead.
25	여호아하스의 아들 여호아스가 하사엘의 아들 벤하닷의 손에서 도시들을 다시 빼앗았다. 이 도시들은 하사엘이 전쟁을 하면서 그의 아버지 여호아하스의 손에서 빼앗았던 곳들이다. 세 번에 걸쳐 여호아스가 그를 무찌르고 이스라엘의 도시들을 되찾았다.	And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben–hadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
