1	요아스가 유다 임금이 되다 예후 일곱째 해에 요아스가 임금이 되었다. 40년을 예루살렘에서 임금으로 다스렸다. 그의 어머니 이름은 시비아이고 브엘세바 사람이었다.	In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beer–sheba.
2	요아스는 여호와께서 보시기에 올곧은 일을 했다. 제사장 여호야다가 그를 가르치는 동안은 늘 그랬다.	And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the Lord all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
3	다만 높은곳(산당)들은 없애지 않았다. 아직도 백성은 높은곳(산당)들에서 제물을 바치며 향을 피워 바치고 있었다.	But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
4	요아스가 제사장들에게 말했다. “여호와의 집에 들어오는 모든 거룩한 은이 있습니다. 사람들이 저마다 내고 가는 은도 있고, 저마다 매겨진 값으로 내는 은도 있습니다. 저마다 마음이 움직여 여호와의 집에 가져오는 은도 모두 다 있습니다.	And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the Lord, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man’s heart to bring into the house of the Lord,
5	제사장들은 저마다 자기가 아는 사람한테 그것을 받으세요. 그리고 그 집의 깨진 곳을 고치는데, 깨진 곳이 있으면 모두 그렇게 하세요.”	Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.
6	그런데 요아스 임금 스물셋째 해가 되어서도 제사장들은 그 집의 깨진 곳을 고치지 않았다.	But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
7	요아스 임금이 여호야다 제사장과 다른 제사장들을 불러 놓고 말했다. “여러분은 어째서 그 집의 깨진 곳을 고치지 않고 있습니까? 이제는 여러분이 아는 사람한테서 여러분이 은을 받지 말고, 그 집의 깨진 곳을 고치도록 그것을 넘겨주십시오.”	Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
8	그러자 제사장들은 백성에게 은을 받지도 않고 그 집의 깨진 곳을 고치지도 않기로 했다.	And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.
9	여호야다 제사장은 상자 하나를 가져와서 그 뚜껑에 구멍을 하나 뚫었다. 그리고 여호와의 집에 들어오면서 볼 때 제단 오른쪽에다 두었다. 문을 지키는 제사장들은 여호와의 집에 들어온 은을 모두 거기에 넣었다.	But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the Lord: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the Lord.
10	그들이 상자에 은이 가득 찬 것을 보게 되면 임금의 서기관이 대제사장과 함께 올라왔다. 그들은 여호와의 집에 있는 은을 주머니에 모아서 셌다.	And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the Lord.
11	그러고는 그 은을 달아서 여호와의 집을 맡아 돌보는 사람들의 손에 넘겼다. 그러면 그들은 그것을 여호와의 집 고치는 일을 하는 목수들과 건축 노동자들에게 건네주었다.	And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the Lord: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the Lord,
12	미장이들과 돌장이들에게도 주었다. 여호와의 집 깨진 곳을 고치는 데 쓸 나무와 막 캐낸 돌도 사고, 그 집을 고치는 데 드는 값을 모두 치렀다.	And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the Lord, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
13	다만 여호와의 집에서 쓸 은잔, 집게, 대야, 트럼펫, 온갖 금그릇과 은그릇을 만드는 일은 여호와의 집에 들어오는 은으로 하지 않았다.	Howbeit there were not made for the house of the Lord bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the Lord:
14	일을 하는 사람들에게 그 은을 주어 그것으로 여호와의 집을 고치게 했던 것이다.	But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the Lord.
15	받은 은을, 일을 하는 사람들에게 넘겨주는 사람들과는 셈을 하지 않았다. 이 사람들이 참되게 일하고 있었기 때문이다.	Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.
16	잘못없애는제물(속건제물)로 바치는 은이나 죄없애는제물(속죄제물)로 바치는 은은 여호와의 집에 들여오지 않았다. 이것은 제사장들의 몫이었다.	The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the Lord: it was the priests’.
17	그때 시리아 임금 하사엘이 올라와 가드를 두고 싸워 그 도시를 차지했다. 그러고서 하사엘은 예루살렘을 치러 올라올 마음을 먹고 있었다.	Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
18	유다 임금 요아스는 거룩한 물건을 모두 모았다. 자기 윗대인 유다 임금 여호사밧, 여호람, 아하시야가 따로 떼어 바친 것이었다. 거기에다 자기가 바쳤던 거룩한 물건, 여호와의 집과 왕궁의 보물 창고에 있던 온갖 금을 모았다. 그러고는 시리아 임금 하사엘에게로 보냈다. 그러자 그는 예루살렘을 치다가 멈추고 떠나 올라갔다.	And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the Lord, and in the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.
19	요아스에 관한 나머지 일과 그가 했던 모든 일은 유다 임금들의 역사일지에 적혀 있지 않은가?	And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
20	그의 신하들이 일어나 일을 꾸몄고, 그들은 실라로 내려가는 길에 있는 밀로의 집에서 요아스를 쳐 죽였다.	And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.
21	그의 신하인 시므앗의 아들 요사밧과 소멜의 아들 여호사밧이 그를 쳐서 죽였다. 사람들이 그를 그의 조상들과 함께 다윗의 도시에 묻었다. 그의 아들 아마샤가 그를 이어 임금이 되었다.	For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
