1	아달랴가 유다를 다스리다 아하시야의 어머니 아달랴는 자기 아들이 죽었다는 사실을 알았다. 그러자 바로 일을 벌여 임금의 후손을 모두 없애 버렸다.	And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
2	그러나 여호람 임금의 딸이며 아하시야의 동생인 여호세바는 왕자들이 죽어 나가는 가운데 아하시야의 아들 요아스를 빼돌렸다. 그리고 아이를 유모와 함께 침실에 두었다. 그렇게 그들은 아달랴 앞에서 아이를 숨겨 죽지 않게 했다.	But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
3	아이가 여호세바와 함께 여호와의 집에 숨어 있는 6년 동안 아달랴가 나라를 다스리고 있었다. ()	And he was with her hid in the house of the Lord six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land.
4	여호야다가 아달랴를 죽이고 요아스를 세우다 7년째 되는 해에 여호야다가 사람을 보내어, 가리 사람과 호위병을 거느리는 백명대장들을 모았다. 여호와의 집에 있는 자기를 만나러 오게 했다. 그는 그들과 약속을 맺었고, 여호와의 집에서 그들이 맹세하도록 했다. 그러고 나서 그들에게 임금의 아들을 보여 주었다.	And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the Lord, and shewed them the king’s son.
5	그는 그들에게 명령했다. “여러분은 이렇게 하셔야 합니다. 여러분 가운데 3분의 1은 안식일에 들어와 왕궁을 단단히 지켜야 합니다.	And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king’s house;
6	3분의 1은 수르문에 있어야 합니다. 3분의 1은 호위병 뒤에 있는 문에 있어야 합니다. 여러분은 돌아가면서 왕궁을 단단히 지켜야 합니다.	And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.
7	여러분 가운데 두 부대는 안식일에 나가는 사람들인데, 임금님 계신 여호와의 집을 단단히 지켜야 합니다.	And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the Lord about the king.
8	임금님을 빙 둘러서십시오. 저마다 손에 무기를 들고 있어야 합니다. 누구든 늘어선 줄 안으로 들어오는 사람은 죽을 것입니다. 임금님이 나가고 들어오실 때 그분 곁에 있으십시오.”	And ye shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
9	백명대장들은 여호야다 제사장이 시키는 대로 다 했다. 그들은 저마다 안식일에 들어오는 사람들과 안식일에 나가는 사람들을 거느리고 여호야다 제사장에게 왔다.	And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10	제사장은 백명대장들에게 창과 방패를 주었다. 다윗 임금의 것으로 여호와의 집에 있던 것이었다.	And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David’s spears and shields, that were in the temple of the Lord.
11	호위병들은 저마다 손에 무기를 들고 서 있었다. 그 집 오른쪽 귀퉁이에서 왼쪽 귀퉁이까지 제단과 건물 곳곳에서 임금을 빙 둘러싸고 있었다.	And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
12	그는 임금의 아들을 데리고 나와서, 그에게 왕관을 씌우고 증언 기록을 주었다. 그를 임금으로 세우고 기름을 부었다. 그러자 그들은 손뼉을 치며 말했다. “임금님, 만세!”	And he brought forth the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.
13	아달랴는 호위병과 백성의 소리를 듣고 백성을 보러 여호와의 집으로 왔다.	And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the Lord.
14	와서 보니 임금이 해 오던 대로 기둥 곁에 서 있었다. 지휘관들과 트럼펫 부는 사람들이 임금 곁에 있었다. 그 땅의 백성 모두가 기뻐하며 트럼펫을 불고 있었다. 아달랴가 자기 옷을 찢으며 외쳤다. “반역이다! 반역이다!”	And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.
15	여호야다 제사장은 군대를 거느리는 백명대장들에게 명령했다. “늘어선 줄 바깥으로 저 여자를 끌어내십시오. 그를 따르는 사람은 누구든 칼로 죽이십시오.” 제사장은 이렇게 말한 것이다. “여호와의 집에서 죽게 하지 마십시오.”	But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the Lord.
16	그들은 그를 손으로 붙들었다. 그는 말들이 드나드는 길을 지나 왕궁으로 갔다가 거기서 죽임을 당했다. ()	And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king’s house: and there was she slain.
17	여호야다의 개혁 여호야다는 여호와와 임금과 백성 사이에 약속을 맺게 했다. 그들이 여호와의 백성이 되게 하려는 것이었다. 또한 임금과 백성 사이에도 약속을 맺게 했다.	And Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people; between the king also and the people.
18	그러고는 그 땅의 백성 모두가 바알 신전으로 가서 그 신전을 허물었다. 그 제단과 신상은 조각조각으로 깨뜨려 버렸고, 바알의 제사장 맛단은 제단 앞에서 죽였다. 그런 다음 제사장은 여호와의 집을 지키는 사람들을 세웠다.	And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord.
19	그는 백명대장들, 가리 사람들, 호위병들, 땅의 백성 모두를 모았다. 그들은 여호와의 집에서 임금을 모시고 내려갔다. 그리고 호위병들이 지키는 성문을 지나 왕궁으로 들어갔다. 그러자 요아스가 임금들이 앉는 자리에 앉았다.	And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king’s house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
20	그 땅의 백성 모두가 기뻐했고, 그 도시는 평온했다. 아달랴를 왕궁에서 칼로 죽였던 것이다.	And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king’s house.
21	7세에 요아스가 임금이 되었다.	Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.
