1	아합의 아들들을 죽이다 아합에게는 아들 70명이 있었는데 사마리아에 살고 있었다. 예후는 편지를 써서 사마리아로 보냈다. 이스르엘의 원로 지휘관들과 아합 집안 선생들에게 보낸 것이다.	And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab’s children, saying,
2	“이제 이 편지를 여러분이 받습니다. 여러분에게는 여러분 윗분의 아들들이 있습니다. 여러분에게는 전투수레와 말들이 있고 튼튼한 도시와 무기도 있습니다.	Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour;
3	그러니 여러분 윗분의 아들들 가운데 가장 뛰어나고 올곧은 사람을 알아보십시오. 그 사람을 그의 아버지 자리에 앉히십시오. 그리고 여러분 윗분의 집안을 위해 싸우십시오.”	Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
4	그러나 그들은 너무너무 두려워하며 말했다. “보십시오, 임금 두 명도 그에게 맞설 수 없었습니다. 우리가 어떻게 맞설 수 있겠습니까?”	But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
5	왕궁을 맡은 사람은 도시를 맡은 사람과 원로들과 선생들과 함께 예후에게 편지를 보냈다. “우리는 장군님의 신하입니다. 장군님이 우리에게 말씀만 하시면 우리가 다 해 드리겠습니다. 우리는 그 누구도 임금으로 세우지 않겠습니다. 장군님 보시기에 좋을 대로 하십시오.”	And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
6	그는 그들에게 두 번째 편지를 썼다. “여러분이 내 쪽에 있고 여러분이 내 목소리를 듣는다 합시다. 그렇다면 여러분 윗분의 아들들 머리를 들고 나한테 오십시오. 내일 이맘때 이스르엘로요.” 그때 임금의 아들 70명은 도시의 높은 사람들과 함께 있었다. 그들이 아들들을 기르고 있었다.	Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
7	편지가 그들에게 오자 그들은 임금의 아들 70명을 잡아 죽였다. 그런 다음 그들의 머리를 바구니에 담아 이스르엘로 그에게 보냈다.	And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
8	심부름꾼이 와서 그에게 말했다. “사람들이 임금의 아들들 머리를 가지고 왔습니다.” 그러자 그가 말했다. “두 무더기로 나누어 아침까지 성문 어귀에 두시오.”	And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning.
9	아침이 되자 그가 나가 서서 온 백성에게 말했다. “여러분은 의롭습니다. 나는 나의 윗사람을 두고 일을 꾸미고 그를 죽였습니다. 그렇다면 이 사람들은 모두 누가 쳐 죽였단 말입니까?	And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10	그러니 알아 두십시오. 여호와께서 아합 집안을 두고 하신 말씀은 땅에 떨어지지 않습니다. 여호와께서는 그분의 종 엘리야를 통해 하신 말씀을 이루셨습니다.”	Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.
11	그러고 나서 예후는 이스르엘에 남아 있던 아합 집안의 사람들을 모두 쳐 죽였다. 그의 아래에 있던 높은 사람들, 그와 친한 사람들, 그를 따르던 제사장들을 한 사람도 남겨 두지 않았다.	So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
12	아하시야의 형제들을 죽이다 그는 일어나 사마리아로 갔다. 가다가 베데겟하로임에 들렀다.	And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
13	예후는 거기서 유다 임금 아하시야의 형제들을 만났다. 그가 말했다. “여러분은 어떤 분들입니까?” 그들이 말했다. “우리는 아하시야의 형제들입니다. 임금님의 아들들과 임금님 어머니의 아들들에게 인사드리러 내려왔습니다.”	Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.
14	그가 말했다. “산 채로 잡아라.” 그러자 그들을 산 채로 잡은 다음 베데겟에 있는 구덩이에 넣어 죽였다. 42명이었는데 그들 가운데 한 사람도 남겨 두지 않았다.	And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
15	여호나답과 함께 아합의 사람들을 죽이다 예후는 그곳을 떠나가다가 자기를 맞이하러 오는 레갑의 아들 여호나답을 만났다. 예후가 그에게 인사하며 말했다. “선생님의 마음은 올곧으신가요? 나의 마음은 선생님의 마음을 두고 그렇답니다.” 여호나답이 “그렇지요.” 하고 말했다. “그렇다면 손을 이리 내미세요.” 그가 손을 내밀자 예후는 그를 전투수레에 태워 자기 곁에 앉혔다.	And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.
16	예후가 말했다. “나와 함께 가서 여호와께 쏟는 나의 열정을 보시지요.” 그러면서 그를 자기 전투수레에 태웠다.	And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord. So they made him ride in his chariot.
17	그는 사마리아로 가서, 사마리아에 남아 있던 아합의 사람들을 다 쳐서 죽여 모조리 없애 버렸다. 여호와께서 엘리야에게 하신 말씀 그대로였다.	And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the Lord, which he spake to Elijah.
18	바알을 섬기는 사람들을 죽이다 예후가 온 백성을 모아 놓고 그들에게 말했다. “아합은 바알을 조금 섬겼지만, 예후는 많이 섬길 것입니다.	And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
19	이제 바알의 예언자들과 종들과 제사장들을 모두 나한테 불러오십시오. 한 사람도 빠지면 안 됩니다. 내가 바알에게 큰 제사를 드리려고 하니까요. 빠지는 사람이 있다면, 그 누구도 살아남지 못할 겁니다.” 예후는 바알을 섬기는 사람들을 죽이려고 속임수를 쓰고 있었던 것이다.	Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20	예후가 말했다. “바알을 위한 축제의 시간을 따로 떼어 두십시오.” 그러자 그들이 모임의 시작을 알렸다.	And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
21	예후가 온 이스라엘에 사람을 보내자, 바알을 섬기는 사람들이 모두 왔다. 안 오고 뒤에 남은 사람은 아무도 없었다. 그들이 바알 신전으로 들어가자 끝에서 끝까지 신전이 가득 찼다.	And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
22	예후는 옷을 맡은 사람에게 말했다. “바알을 섬기는 사람들 모두가 입을 옷을 내오세요.” 그러자 그 사람이 그들에게 입을 옷을 내다 주었다.	And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
23	예후는 레갑의 아들 여호나답과 함께 바알 신전으로 들어갔다. 그는 바알을 섬기는 사람들에게 말했다. “여기 여러분 가운데 여호와의 종들이 있을지 모르니 잘 찾아보십시오. 바알을 섬기는 사람들만 있어야 합니다.”	And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only.
24	그들은 제물과 다태우는제물(번제물)을 드리러 들어갔다. 예후는 밖에 군인 80명을 세워 두고 말했다. “내가 데려와서 너희 손에 넘겨준 사람들을 달아나게 내버려두는 사람, 그 사람은 자기 목숨을 내놓아야 할 것이다.”	And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25	예후는 다태우는제물(번제물)을 바치고 나서 호위병들과 수행원들에게 말했다. “들어와서 그들을 쳐라. 한 사람도 못 나가게 해라.” 그러자 호위병들과 수행원들은 그들을 칼로 쳐서 내던졌다. 그러고 바알 신전의 한가운데까지 들어갔다.	And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
26	그들은 바알 신전의 기둥을 꺼내 불태웠다.	And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
27	바알의 기둥을 헐고 바알 신전을 헐어 용변 보는 곳으로 만들었다. 오늘까지 그대로 있다.	And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
28	예후는 이스라엘에서 바알을 뿌리 뽑았다.	Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
29	다만 이스라엘을 죄짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄에서 예후가 떠나지 않은 것은 사실이다. 그것은 베델과 단에 있는 금송아지였다.	Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth–el, and that were in Dan.
30	여호와께서 예후에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 내가 보기에 옳은 일을 잘했다. 나의 마음에 꼭 들도록 아합 집안한테 해 주었다. 그러니 너의 자손 4대를 이스라엘의 임금자리에 앉게 해 주겠다.”	And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
31	그러나 예후는 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 가르침을 따라 꾸준히 걷는 일에 마음을 다하지 않았다. 이스라엘을 죄짓게 한 여로보암의 죄에서 떠나지 않은 것이다.	But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
32	예후가 죽다 그때 여호와는 이스라엘을 조각내기 시작하셨다. 하사엘이 이스라엘 국경 곳곳에서 그들을 쳤다.	In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
33	요르단강에서 동쪽으로 길르앗 온 땅에 사는 갓 사람, 르우벤 사람, 므낫세 사람을 친 것이다. 아르논 마른시내 가장자리의 아로엘부터 길르앗과 바산까지 이르렀다.	From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
34	예후에 관한 나머지 일과 그가 했던 모든 일과 그가 보여 준 힘은 이스라엘 임금들의 역사일지에 적혀 있지 않은가?	Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
35	예후가 자기 조상들과 함께 누웠고, 사람들이 그를 사마리아에 묻었다. 그의 아들 여호아하스가 그를 이어 임금이 되었다.	And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
36	예후가 이스라엘을 다스린 기간은 사마리아에서 28년이었다.	And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
