1	아사가 다스리다 아비야가 자기 조상들과 함께 누웠고, 사람들이 그를 다윗의 도시에 묻었다. 그의 아들 아사가 그를 이어 임금이 되었다. 그가 다스리던 시대에 10년 동안 땅이 고요했다.	So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2	아사는 여호와 그의 하나님이 보시기에 좋은 일과 올곧은 일을 했다.	And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God:
3	다른 나라 사람들의 제단들과 높은곳(산당)들을 치워 버렸다. 돌기둥들을 깨뜨리고 아세라 말뚝을 조각내 버렸다.	For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
4	유다 사람들에게는 여호와 그들의 조상들의 하나님을 찾으라고 했다. 율법과 명령을 지키라고 했다.	And commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
5	유다의 모든 도시에서 높은곳(산당)들과 향사르는제단(분향단)들을 치워 버렸다. 나라가 그의 앞에서 고요했다.	Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6	유다에 요새로 된 도시들을 세웠다. 땅이 고요할 때였다. 그 시절에 그에게 싸움이 없었다. 여호와께서 그를 편히 쉬게 해 주셨기 때문이었다.	And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the Lord had given him rest.
7	그가 유다 사람들에게 말했다. “이 도시들을 세웁시다. 성벽과 망대와 문과 문빗장을 두릅시다. 땅이 아직 우리 앞에 있습니다. 우리가 여호와 우리 하나님을 찾았기 때문이지요. 우리가 찾았더니 우리를 사방 어디로부터든 전쟁 없이 편히 쉬게 해 주셨어요.” 그러자 그들이 세웠고 일이 잘되었다.	Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the Lord our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
8	아사에게는 큰 방패와 창을 든 유다 군사가 300,000명 있었다. 방패를 들고 활을 당기는 베냐민 사람도 280,000명 있었다. 이들은 모두 용맹스러운 사람들이었다.	And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
9	아사가 에티오피아를 무찌르게 하시다 그들에게 맞서서 에티오피아 사람 세라흐가 군사 1,000,000명과 전투수레 300대를 이끌고 나왔다. 그는 마레사까지 왔다.	And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
10	아사는 그를 맞으러 나가 마레사에 있는 스바다 골짜기에서 싸울 준비를 했다.	Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11	아사가 여호와 그의 하나님께 부르짖었다. “여호와여, 힘센 사람을 돕는 것이나 힘없는 사람을 돕는 것이나 주님께는 아무것도 아닙니다. 우리를 도와주십시오, 여호와 우리 하나님! 우리가 주님께 기대었으니까요. 주님의 이름으로 우리가 이 무리에게 맞서 나아왔으니까요. 여호와여, 주님은 우리 하나님이십니다. 사람이 주님을 잡아 두지 못하게 해 주십시오.”	And Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said, Lord, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
12	여호와께서 에티오피아 사람들을 아사와 유다 사람들 앞에서 무너뜨리셨다. 그러자 에티오피아 사람들이 달아났다.	So the Lord smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13	아사와 그와 함께한 군사들이 그랄까지 그들을 쫓아갔다. 에티오피아 사람들이 쓰러져 살아남은 사람이 없었다. 여호와 앞과 그의 군대 앞에서 무너진 것이다. 그러자 유다 군대는 적의 물건을 아주 많이 빼앗아 갔다.	And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the Lord, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14	그러고는 그들은 그랄 둘레의 모든 도시를 쳤다. 그 도시들이 여호와를 무서워했던 것이다. 그 모든 도시에서 물건을 빼앗았다. 거기에 빼앗아 갈 물건들이 많았던 것이다.	And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the Lord came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15	또한 집짐승 천막들을 덮쳐서 수많은 양에다 낙타들까지 끌어갔다. 그러고서 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다.	They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
