1	아비야와 여로보암이 맞서 싸우다 여로보암 임금 열여덟째 해에, 아비야가 유다를 다스리는 임금이 되었다.	Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.
2	3년 동안 예루살렘에서 다스렸다. 그의 어머니 이름은 미가야후이고 기브아에서 온 우리엘의 딸이었다. 아비야와 여로보암 사이에는 싸움이 있었다.	He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
3	아비야는 용맹스럽게 싸우는 군사들과 함께 싸움에 달려들었다. 그들은 골라 뽑은 400,000명의 남자들이었다. 여로보암도 골라 뽑은 800,000명의 용맹스러운 사람들과 함께 싸울 준비를 했다.	And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.
4	아비야가 에브라임 산지에 있는 스마라임산 위에 서서 말했다. “내 말을 들어라, 여로보암과 온 이스라엘아!	And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;
5	너희는 모르느냐, 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 다윗에게 나라를 주셔서 이스라엘을 영원히 다스리게 하신 것을? 그와 그의 자손에게 소금 언약을 해 주셨지.	Ought ye not to know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
6	그런데 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 일어났다. 다윗의 아들 솔로몬의 신하였는데 자기 주인에게 맞서 들고일어났다.	Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.
7	형편없는 사람들과 몹쓸 인간들이 그에게 모여들어 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암에게 대들었다. 그러나 르호보암은 어리고 마음이 여려서 그들에게 맞서 힘을 쓰지 못했다.	And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.
8	이제, 너희는 다윗의 자손의 손안에 있는 여호와의 나라에 맞서 힘을 쓰겠다고 하는구나! 너희의 수가 엄청나게 많다는 것이지. 또 너희에게 금송아지들이 있다는 것이지. 여로보암이 신이라 하면서 그것들을 너희에게 만들어 주었지.	And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.
9	너희가 여호와의 제사장들과 아론의 자손과 레위 사람들을 몰아내지 않았느냐? 그러고는 세상의 다른 백성들처럼 너희를 위해 제사장을 세웠다. 수송아지 한 마리와 숫양 일곱 마리를 가져와서 제사장 일을 맡겠다고 하는 사람은 누구든 제사장이 되었다. 신이 아닌 것을 섬기는 제사장이 된 것이다.	Have ye not cast out the priests of the Lord, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
10	그러나 우리에게는 여호와께서 우리의 하나님이시다. 우리는 그분을 저버리지 않았다. 여호와를 섬기는 제사장들은 아론의 자손이며, 레위 사람들도 할 일을 하고 있다.	But as for us, the Lord is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the Lord, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
11	그들은 여호와께 아침저녁으로 다태우는제물(번제물)과 향기로운 향을 태워 올리고 있다. 또 깨끗한 상에 빵을 차려 놓는다. 금등불받침대를 놓고 거기에 있는 등잔들에 저녁마다 불을 켜 놓는다. 우리는 여호와 우리 하나님의 일을 맡아서 하고 있는 것이다. 그러나 너희는 그분을 저버렸다.	And they burn unto the Lord every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the Lord our God; but ye have forsaken him.
12	보라, 우리 꼭대기에 하나님이 계신다. 그분의 제사장들은 부는 트럼펫을 들고 너희 쪽으로 큰 소리를 울리려 한다. 이스라엘의 자손들아, 여호와 너희 조상들의 하나님과 싸우려 하지 마라. 잘되지 못할 것이다.”	And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the Lord God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.
13	여로보암은 숨어서 기다릴 병사들을 뒤로 돌아가게 했다. 그래서 자기들은 유다 앞에 있고 숨어서 기다리는 병사들은 그들의 뒤에 있게 되었다.	But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.
14	유다가 돌아보니, 보라, 그들 앞뒤로 싸움이 있었다. 그들은 여호와께 부르짖었고, 제사장들은 트럼펫을 불었다.	And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the Lord, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
15	유다 사람들은 함성을 내질렀다. 유다 사람들이 함성을 내지를 때에 하나님이 여로보암과 온 이스라엘을 아비야와 유다 앞에서 무너뜨리셨다.	Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
16	이스라엘 사람들이 유다 사람들 앞에서 달아났다. 하나님이 이스라엘 사람들을 유다 사람들의 손에 넘기셨다.	And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.
17	아비야와 그의 백성이 그들을 쳐서 어마어마하게 죽였다. 이스라엘에서 골라 뽑은 500,000명이 칼에 맞아 쓰러졌다.	And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
18	그때 이스라엘 사람들이 무릎을 꿇었다. 유다 사람들은 굳세어졌다. 그들이 여호와 자기네 조상들의 하나님께 기대었기 때문이다.	Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the Lord God of their fathers.
19	아비야가 여로보암을 뒤쫓아 가서 그에게서 몇몇 도시를 빼앗아 차지했다. 베델과 거기에 딸린 마을들, 여사나와 거기에 딸린 마을들, 에브론과 거기에 딸린 마을들이었다.	And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth–el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.
20	여로보암은 아비야 때에 힘을 되찾지 못했다. 여호와께서 그를 무너뜨리시자 그가 죽었다.	Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the Lord struck him, and he died.
21	아비야는 힘을 키웠다. 그는 14명의 아내를 맞아들여 22명의 아들과 16명의 딸을 낳았다.	But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
22	아비야에 관한 나머지 일과 그가 걸어간 길과 그가 한 말은 잇도 예언자가 풀이하여 적어 놓았다.	And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.
