1	이집트가 유다를 치다 르호보암은 나라가 든든히 세워져 힘을 갖추자 여호와의 율법을 저버렸다. 온 이스라엘이 그와 함께했다.	And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
2	르호보암 임금 다섯째 해였다. 이집트 임금 시삭이 예루살렘을 치러 올라왔다. 그들이 여호와를 배신했기 때문이다.	And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the Lord,
3	1,200대의 전투수레와 60,000명의 기마병을 거느리고 왔다. 이집트에서 그와 함께 온 사람은 셀 수도 없었다. 곧 리비아 사람들, 숙 사람들, 에티오피아 사람들이었다.	With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
4	그는 유다의 요새로 만든 도시들을 손에 넣고 예루살렘까지 왔다.	And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
5	스마야 예언자가 르호보암과 유다의 지도자들에게로 왔다. 이 사람들은 시삭 때문에 예루살렘에 모여 있었던 것이다. 그가 이 사람들에게 말했다. “여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘너희가 나를 버렸으니 나도 너희를 시삭의 손에 버렸다.’”	Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the Lord, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.
6	이스라엘의 지도자들과 임금이 스스로를 낮추고 말했다. “여호와는 공의로우십니다.”	Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The Lord is righteous.
7	여호와는 그들이 스스로 낮추는 것을 보셨다. 그때 여호와께서 스마야에게 말씀하셨다. “그들이 스스로를 낮추니 내가 그들을 망가뜨리지는 않겠다. 그들이 조금은 벗어날 수 있도록 해 주겠다. 나의 노여움을 시삭의 손을 빌려 예루살렘에 쏟아붓지는 않을 것이다.	And when the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
8	그러나 그들은 그의 종이 될 것이다. 그래서 나를 섬기는 것과 세상 나라들을 섬기는 것이 어떻게 다른지 알게 될 것이다.”	Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
9	이집트 임금 시삭은 예루살렘에 맞서 올라왔다. 그는 여호와의 집에 있는 보물과 왕궁에 있는 보물을 가져갔다. 모조리 가져가 버렸다. 또한 솔로몬이 만들었던 금방패들을 가져갔다.	So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king’s house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
10	그러자 르호보암 임금은 그 대신에 놋방패들을 만들었다. 그런 다음 왕궁 문을 지키는 호위대의 대장들 손에 맡겼다.	Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house.
11	임금이 여호와의 집에 갈 때마다, 호위대가 와서 그것들을 들고 갔다가 호위대 방으로 다시 가져오곤 했다.	And when the king entered into the house of the Lord, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
12	그가 스스로를 낮추자 여호와의 노여움이 그에게서 물러났다. 완전히 망가뜨리시지 않은 것이다. 유다에도 좋은 일이 있었다.	And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
13	르호보암이 죽다 르호보암 임금은 예루살렘에서 굳건히 다스렸다. 르호보암이 임금이 되었을 때 41세였다. 17년 동안 예루살렘에서 다스렸다. 그곳은 여호와께서 그분의 이름을 두시려고 이스라엘의 모든 지파 가운데서 고르신 도시였다. 그의 어머니 이름은 나아마이고 암몬 사람이었다.	So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
14	그는 악하게 행동했다. 여호와를 찾으려는 뜻을 세우지 않은 것이다.	And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the Lord.
15	르호보암의 일들은 처음부터 끝까지 스마야 예언자와 잇도 예견자의 글에 적혀 있지 않은가? 거기에는 족보도 들어 있다. 르호보암과 여로보암의 전쟁은 늘 있었다.	Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
16	르호보암은 자기 조상들과 함께 누워, 다윗의 도시에 묻혔다. 그의 아들 아비야가 그를 이어 임금이 되었다.	And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.
