1	사울이 죽다 필리스티아 사람들이 이스라엘과 전쟁을 치렀다. 이스라엘 사람이 필리스티아 사람들 앞에서 달아나다가 칼에 맞아 쓰러졌다. 길보아산에서였다.	Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2	필리스티아 사람들은 사울과 그의 아들들 뒤를 바싹 따라붙었다. 그러고는 필리스티아 사람들이 요나단과 아비나답과 말기수아, 곧 사울의 아들들을 쳐 죽였다.	And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi–shua, the sons of Saul.
3	전쟁이 사울한테는 버거워져 갔고, 활 가진 활잡이들이 그를 찾아냈다. 그는 활잡이들 때문에 떨었다.	And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.
4	사울이 그의 무기를 들고 따르는 사람에게 말했다. “너의 칼을 뽑아 그 칼로 나를 찌르거라, 할례받지 않은 이 사람들이 와서, 내가 지독한 꼴을 당하지 않도록!” 그러나 그의 무기를 들고 따르는 사람은 너무 겁에 질려 그러려고 하지 않았다. 결국 사울은 칼을 뽑아 스스로 그 위에 엎어졌다.	Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5	그의 무기를 들고 따르는 사람은 사울이 죽는 것을 보고 자신도 칼 위에 스스로 엎어져 죽었다.	And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
6	사울과 그의 세 아들과 그의 온 집안이 함께 죽었다.	So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
7	골짜기에 있던 이스라엘 사람이 저마다 사람들이 달아나 버린 것을 보았다. 사울과 그의 아들들이 죽은 것도 보았다. 그래서 그들은 그들의 도시들을 버리고 달아났다. 그러자 필리스티아 사람들이 들어와 그 도시들에 살았다.	And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8	다음날이 되자 필리스티아 사람들이 왔다. 칼에 맞아 죽은 사람들의 옷을 벗기려는 것이었다. 그들은 사울과 그의 아들들이 길보아산에 쓰러져 있는 것을 발견했다.	And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9	그들은 사울의 옷을 벗기고 그의 머리와 갑옷을 들고 갔다. 그러고는 필리스티아 땅 사방으로 보내 그들의 우상들과 백성에게 승리의 기쁜 소식을 알렸다.	And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.
10	그들은 그의 갑옷을 그들의 신들의 집에 갖다 놓았고, 그의 해골은 다곤의 집에 박아 두었다.	And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
11	길르앗의 야베스 사람 모두가 소식을 들었다. 필리스티아 사람들이 사울에게 저지른 온갖 짓거리에 대한 것이었다.	And when all Jabesh–gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12	그러자 용사들이 모두 일어나서 사울의 시체와 그의 아들들의 시체를 들고 야베스로 가져왔다. 그들의 뼈를 가져다가 야베스에 있는 참나무 아래에 묻었다. 그러고는 7일 동안 금식했다.	They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13	사울은 그가 여호와를 배신했던 일 때문에 죽은 것이다. 그는 여호와의 말씀을 지키지 않았고, 심지어 죽은 사람의 영을 찾아가 도움을 구했다.	So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;
14	여호와를 찾지 않았기 때문에 여호와는 그를 죽이신 것이다. 그리고 그의 왕권을 이새의 아들 다윗에게 돌아가게 하셨다.	And enquired not of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
