1	라합의 도움으로 정찰병이 여리고를 다녀와 보고하다 눈의 아들 여호수아가 싯팀에서 두 사람의 정찰병을 몰래 보내며 이렇게 말했다. “가서 그 땅과 여리고를 살펴보아라!” 그들이 가서, 매인 데 없는 여자의 집에 들어갔다. 그 여자의 이름은 라합이었다. 그들은 거기서 묵었다.	And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
2	누군가 여리고 임금에게 이렇게 알렸다. “보십시오, 오늘 밤에 이스라엘 사람 몇이 이리로 왔습니다. 이 땅을 엿보려고요.”	And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
3	여리고 임금이 라합에게 사람을 보내어 말하게 했다. “너에게로 와서 너의 집에 들어간 사람들을 내놓아라! 이 온 땅을 엿보려고 그들이 왔기 때문이다.”	And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
4	라합은 이미 그 두 사람을 데려다가 숨겨 주었던 터라 이렇게 대답했다. “예, 그들이 저에게 오기는 했습니다만, 그들이 어디에서 왔는지 저는 모릅니다.	And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
5	날이 어두워져서 성문을 닫을 즈음에 그 사람들이 나갔습니다. 그 사람들이 어디로 갔는지 나는 알지 못합니다. 빨리 그들을 뒤쫓아 가십시오. 따라잡을 수 있을 테니까요.”	And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
6	라합은 이미 그들을 옥상으로 데리고 올라가 옥상에 널어놓은 마 줄기 속에 숨겨 주었던 것이다.	But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
7	그래서 사람들은 요르단강으로 가는 길로 나루까지 그들을 뒤쫓아 갔다. 그들을 뒤쫓는 사람들이 나가자 성문이 닫혔다.	And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
8	정찰병들이 잠자리에 들기 전에 라합은 옥상 위로 올라가 그들을 만났다.	And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9	그리고 그 사람들에게 말했다. “나는 알고 있어요. 여호와께서 이 땅을 여러분에게 주셨다는 것을요. 또 우리는 여러분에 대한 무서움에 사로잡혔고, 이 땅에 사는 사람들은 모두 여러분 앞에서 기죽어 있다는 것을요.	And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10	우리가 들은 것도 있어요. 여러분이 이집트에서 빠져나올 때 홍해 물을 여호와께서 여러분 앞에서 마르게 하여 물러나게 하셨다는 것이지요. 요르단강 건너편에 있는 아모리 사람들의 두 임금 시혼과 옥에게 여러분이 어떻게 했는지도요. 그들을 완전히 없애 버렸다지요.	For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11	그런 소식을 듣고 우리 심장이 덜컥 내려앉았어요. 여러분 때문에 그 누구도 더는 정신을 차릴 수가 없었어요. 여호와 여러분의 하나님, 그분이 참하나님이시지요. 위로는 하늘에서 그러하시고, 아래로는 땅에서 그러하시지요.	And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12	이제 여호와의 이름을 걸고 나에게 맹세해 주세요. 내가 여러분에게 잘해 주었듯이, 여러분도 내 아버지 쪽 집안사람들에게 잘해 주시겠다고요. 그리고 확실한 증표를 하나 나에게 주세요.	Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:
13	우리 아버지와 어머니와 형제자매와 그들에게 딸린 사람들이 살아남게 해 주세요. 죽음에서 우리의 목숨을 건지게 해 주세요.”	And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14	라합에게 정찰병들이 대답했다. “여러분 대신 우리 목숨이라도 내놓지요. 여러분이 우리의 이 일을 아무에게도 알리지 않는다면요. 여호와께서 우리에게 이 땅을 주실 때, 여러분한테는 참으로 잘해 드리지요.”	And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15	라합은 그들이 창문을 통해 밧줄을 타고 내려가게 해 주었다. 라합의 집이 성벽 담에 붙어 있고, 라합은 성벽 위쪽에 살고 있었던 것이다.	Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
16	라합은 그들에게 말했다. “산으로 가세요. 그러면 뒤쫓는 사람들이 두 분을 찾지 못할 테니까요. 3일 동안 산에서 몸을 숨기도록 하세요. 결국 뒤쫓는 사람들이 돌아가겠지요. 그런 다음에 두 분도 계속 길을 가세요.”	And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
17	그 사람들이 라합에게 말했다. “이런 경우에는, 그대가 우리에게 하도록 한 이 맹세를 우리가 지키지 않아도 잘못이 없을 겁니다.	And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18	자, 우리가 이 땅에 들어올 때에 이 짙은 붉은색 끈을 창문에 잡아매 두세요. 그대가 우리를 내려가게 해 준 창문에요. 그대의 아버지와 어머니와 형제자매와 아버지 쪽 집안사람들은 모두 그대의 집에 모이게 하고요.	Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
19	누구든지 그대의 집 문밖으로 나갔다가 목숨을 잃었다면, 그 사람은 자기 잘못으로 죽은 것입니다. 그러므로 우리에게는 잘못이 없습니다. 누구든지 그대와 함께 집에 머물렀는데도 누가 손을 대어 그 사람이 목숨을 잃었다고 합시다. 그러면 그 사람이 죽은 것은 우리에게 책임이 있지요.	And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20	그대가 우리의 이 일을 아무에게라도 새어 나가게 한다고 합시다. 그러면 그대가 우리에게 하도록 한 이 맹세를 우리가 지키지 않아도 잘못이 없을 겁니다.”	And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
21	라합이 대답했다. “두 분 말씀대로 하지요.” 라합이 그들을 내보내자, 그들은 떠났다. 라합은 짙은 붉은색 끈을 창문에 잡아맸다.	And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22	그들은 떠나 산으로 가서 산에서 3일 동안 몸을 숨겼다. 마침내 뒤쫓는 사람들이 돌아갔다. 뒤쫓는 사람들이 길을 샅샅이 뒤졌지만 그들을 찾아내지는 못했다.	And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23	그 두 사람은 다시 산에서 내려와 강을 건너 눈의 아들 여호수아에게 왔다. 그러고는 자기들에게 일어났던 일을 모두 여호수아에게 자세히 말해 주었다.	So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24	그들은 여호수아에게 말했다. “여호와께서 우리 손에 그 땅을 모두 넘겨주셨습니다. 그래서 그 땅에 사는 사람들도 모두 우리 앞에서 기죽어 있었습니다.”	And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
