1	이스라엘 백성이 요르단강을 건너다 여호수아는 아침 일찍 일어나서 싯팀을 떠나 요르단강까지 왔다. 모든 이스라엘 사람이 같이했다. 그들은 요르단강을 건너기 전에 거기서 묵었다.	And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.
2	3일이 지나, 행정관들이 진영 가운데로 다녔다.	And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;
3	그들은 백성에게 명령했다. “레위 사람 제사장들이 여호와 여러분의 하나님의 언약상자를 메는 것을 보거든, 여러분은 자리에서 일어나 뒤따르십시오.	And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
4	다만 여러분과 언약상자 사이에는 1킬로미터의 거리를 두어야 합니다. 언약상자에 다가가지 마십시오. 그러면 여러분이 갈 길을 알 수 있을 것입니다. 그 길은 여러분이 이전에는 가 본 적이 없기 때문입니다.”	Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.
5	여호수아가 백성에게 또 말했다. “여러분은 스스로를 거룩하게 하십시오. 여호와께서 내일 여러분 가운데서 놀라운 일을 하실 것이기 때문입니다.”	And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.
6	여호수아가 제사장들에게 명령했다. “언약상자를 메고 백성보다 앞서서 건너가십시오.” 제사장들은 언약상자를 메고 백성보다 앞서서 걸어갔다.	And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
7	여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. “온 이스라엘 눈앞에서 오늘부터 내가 너를 높여 줄 것이다. 그리하여 내가 모세와 함께했듯이 너와 함께한다는 것을 그들이 알게 될 것이다.	And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
8	너는 언약상자를 멘 제사장들에게, 요르단강 물가에 이르거든 요르단강으로 들어가 서 있으라고 명령하거라.”	And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.
9	여호수아가 이스라엘 사람들에게 또 말했다. “이리로 가까이 와서 여호와 여러분의 하나님의 말씀을 들으십시오.”	And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the Lord your God.
10	여호수아가 말했다. “이로써 여러분 가운데 하나님이 살아 계신다는 것을 알게 될 것입니다. 그분이 여러분 앞에서 반드시 몰아내실 것입니다. 가나안 사람들, 히타이트 사람들, 히위 사람들, 브리스 사람들, 기르가스 사람들, 아모리 사람들, 여부스 사람들을요.	And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
11	자, 온 땅의 주님이신 분의 언약상자가 여러분보다 앞서서 요르단강을 건너갑니다.	Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.
12	이제 여러분은 이스라엘 지파에서 열두 사람을 뽑으십시오. 한 지파에 한 사람씩을요.	Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.
13	온 땅의 주님이신 여호와의 언약상자를 멘 제사장들이 요르단강 물에 발바닥을 딛고 서면 요르단강 물이 끊길 것입니다. 위에서 흘러내리던 물인데, 그 물이 멈추어 서서 둑을 하나 이룰 것입니다.”	And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.
14	백성이 요르단강을 건너려고 천막을 걷어 길을 나설 때 언약상자를 멘 제사장들이 백성보다 앞섰다.	And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;
15	상자(궤)를 멘 사람들이 요르단강에 이르렀다. 그리고 상자(궤)를 멘 제사장들이 물가에 발을 담갔다. 요르단강은 곡식을 거두어들이는 시기에는 내내 물이 가득하여 그 온 강둑까지 넘실거린다.	And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
16	그러자 위에서 흘러내리던 물이 멈추어 서서 위로 솟아 둑을 하나 이루었다. 아주 멀리 아담 곧 사르단 곁에 있는 도시까지 미쳤다. 아라바 바다 곧 소금바다(사해)로 흘러내리던 물이 완전히 끊어져서, 백성은 여리고 맞은편으로 건너갔다.	That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.
17	온 이스라엘은 마른땅으로 건넜다. 그동안 여호와의 언약상자를 멘 제사장들은 요르단강 한가운데 마른땅에 흔들림 없이 서 있었다. 마침내 온 겨레가 요르단강을 완전히 건넜다.	And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
