1	요르단강 동쪽에 자리 잡은 지파들이 돌아가다 그때 여호수아가 르우벤 사람들, 갓 사람들, 므낫세 지파 절반을 불렀다.	Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh,
2	그러고는 그들에게 말했다. “여러분은 여호와의 종 모세가 여러분에게 명령한 대로 다 따랐습니다. 내 말도 잘 듣고 내가 여러분에게 명령한 대로 다 했습니다.	And said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you:
3	오늘에 이르도록 이 많은 날 동안 여러분의 형제자매를 버리지 않고 여호와 여러분의 하나님이 명령하여 지키라 하신 것을 지켰습니다.	Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the Lord your God.
4	이제 여호와 여러분의 하나님이 여러분의 형제자매를 편히 쉬게 하셨습니다. 그들에게 말씀하신 대로입니다. 이제 여러분은 여러분의 천막으로 돌아가십시오. 여호와의 종 모세가 요르단강 건너편에서 여러분에게 주어 여러분의 것이 된 땅으로 돌아가십시오.	And now the Lord your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, and unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side Jordan.
5	다만 여호와의 종 모세가 여러분에게 분부한 명령과 가르침을 그대로 잘 따르십시오. 여호와 여러분의 하나님을 사랑하고, 그분의 모든 길로 가십시오. 그분의 명령을 지키고, 그분에게 붙어 있으십시오. 온 마음과 온 정성으로 그분을 섬기십시오.”	But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
6	여호수아가 그들을 축복하고 보냈다. 그들은 자신들의 천막으로 갔다.	So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away: and they went unto their tents.
7	므낫세 지파의 한쪽 절반에게는 모세가 바산에서 땅을 나누어 주었다. 다른 쪽 절반에게는 여호수아가 요르단강의 서쪽 건너편에서 그들의 형제자매와 함께 땅을 나누어 주었다. 여호수아가 그들을 자신들의 천막으로 보낼 때도 축복했다.	Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given possession in Bashan: but unto the other half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on this side Jordan westward. And when Joshua sent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,
8	여호수아가 그들에게 말했다. “재산을 많이 가지고 여러분의 천막으로 돌아가십시오. 짐승도 아주 많이 몰고 가십시오. 은과 금과 놋과 쇠와 옷도 아주 많이 가져가십시오. 여러분의 적들에게서 빼앗은 것을 여러분의 형제자매와 나누십시오.”	And he spake unto them, saying, Return with much riches unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much raiment: divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.
9	르우벤 사람들과 갓 사람들과 므낫세 지파 절반이 가나안 땅의 실로에서 이스라엘 사람들을 떠나 길르앗 땅으로 돌아갔다. 여호와께서 모세를 시켜 하신 말씀을 따라 그들이 자리 잡고 자기들의 것으로 삼은 땅이다.	And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
10	요르단강 동쪽 지파들이 제단을 만들다 그들이 가나안 땅에 있는 요르단강 상류 동쪽 지역으로 갔다. 르우벤 사람들과 갓 사람들과 므낫세 지파 절반이 거기 요르단강 가에 제단을 하나 만들었다. 겉보기에도 큰 제단이었다.	And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan, a great altar to see to.
11	이스라엘 사람들이 이 소식을 듣고 말했다. “이런! 르우벤 사람들과 갓 사람들과 므낫세 지파 절반이 가나안 땅 들머리, 요르단강 상류 동쪽 지역에, 이스라엘 사람들 쪽에 제단을 하나 만들었구나.”	And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.
12	이스라엘 사람들이 이 소식을 들었다. 그리하여 이스라엘 사람들의 온 무리가 실로에 모였다. 이 지파들에게로 올라가서 싸우려고 했다.	And when the children of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them.
13	이스라엘 사람들이 길르앗 땅의 르우벤 사람들, 갓 사람들, 므낫세 지파 절반에게 엘르아살 제사장의 아들 비느하스를 보냈다.	And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,
14	지도자 열 명이 그와 함께했다. 이스라엘의 모든 지파에서 아버지 쪽 집안의 지도자가 한 명씩 나섰다. 이스라엘 각 가문의 아버지 쪽 집안 어른이었다.	And with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was an head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.
15	그들이 길르앗 땅의 르우벤 사람들, 갓 사람들, 므낫세 지파 절반에게로 가서 따졌다.	And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and they spake with them, saying,
16	“여호와의 온 무리가 말했습니다. ‘어떻게 여러분이 이렇게 이스라엘의 하나님께 신의를 저버릴 수 있습니까? 오늘 여호와에게서 돌아서서 스스로 제단을 만들었군요. 여러분은 오늘 여호와께 맞서 대든 것입니다.	Thus saith the whole congregation of the Lord, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the Lord, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the Lord?
17	브올에서 우리가 저지른 잘못만으로는 아직 모자랍니까? 오늘까지도 우리가 그 잘못에서 벗어나 우리 스스로를 깨끗하게 하지 않았습니다. 그래서 여호와의 무리에게 재난이 닥쳤습니다.	Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord,
18	여러분은요, 여호와에게서 오늘 돌아섰습니다. 여러분은요, 여호와께 오늘 맞서 대든 것입니다. 내일은 이스라엘 온 무리에게 그분이 노여움을 쏟으실 것입니다.	But that ye must turn away this day from following the Lord? and it will be, seeing ye rebel to day against the Lord, that to morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.
19	여러분의 것으로 된 땅이 깨끗하지 않으면, 여호와께 속한 땅 곧 여호와께서 머무시는 천막이 있는 땅으로 건너오십시오. 그리하여 우리 가운데 자리 잡으십시오. 여호와께는 맞서 대들지 마십시오. 우리에게 맞서 여호와 우리 하나님의 제단이 아닌 다른 제단을 스스로 만들지 마십시오.	Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the Lord, wherein the Lord’s tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against the Lord, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the Lord our God.
20	세라흐의 증손자 아간이 신의를 저버리고, 하나님께 바쳐서 완전히 없애 버릴 물건에 손대는 바람에 이스라엘 온 무리가 노여움을 사지 않았습니까? 그 죄로 한 사람만 죽은 것이 아니었습니다.’”	Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.
21	르우벤 사람들, 갓 사람들, 므낫세 지파 절반이 이스라엘 각 가문의 어른들에게 대답했다.	Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh answered, and said unto the heads of the thousands of Israel,
22	“하나님, 여호와 하나님, 하나님, 여호와 하나님이 알고 계십니다. 이스라엘도 알아야 합니다. 우리가 여호와께 맞서거나 배신한 것이라면, 여러분은 오늘 우리를 구해 주지 마십시오.	The Lord God of gods, the Lord God of gods, he knoweth, and Israel he shall know; if it be in rebellion, or if in transgression against the Lord, (save us not this day,)
23	우리가 스스로 제단을 만들어 여호와께로부터 돌아서려고 했겠습니까? 다태우는제물(번제물)을 그 위에 올리려 했겠습니까? 곡식제물(소제물)을 올리려 했겠습니까? 평화의희생제물(화목제물)을 그 위에 올리려 했겠습니까? 여호와께서 친히 살펴봐 주시기 바랍니다!	That we have built us an altar to turn from following the Lord, or if to offer thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings thereon, let the Lord himself require it;
24	걱정스러운 일이 있어서 우리가 이렇게 한 것이 아닌가요? 나중에 여러분의 자손이 우리 자손에게 이렇게 말할 수도 있습니다. ‘여호와 이스라엘의 하나님께서 너희와 무슨 관계가 있느냐?	And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the Lord God of Israel?
25	르우벤 사람들과 갓 사람들아, 여호와께서 요르단강을 우리와 너희 사이의 경계로 정해 주셨다. 너희에게는, 여호와께로부터 나누어 받을 몫이 없다.’라고요. 여러분의 자손이 우리 자손에게 여호와를 두려워하며 섬기는 일을 못 하게 할 수도 있습니다.	For the Lord hath made Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no part in the Lord: so shall your children make our children cease from fearing the Lord.
26	우리가 스스로 제단을 만들어, 다태우는제물(번제물)과 희생제물을 드리려는 것이 아닙니다.	Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice:
27	이것을, 우리와 여러분 사이에, 또 우리 뒷세대들 사이에 증거물로 삼으려는 것입니다. 곧 우리도 여호와 앞에서 여호와를 섬기는 예식을 치른다는 것입니다. 다태우는제물(번제물)과 희생제물과 평화제물(화목제물)을 우리도 드린다는 것입니다. 그리하여 여러분의 자손이 나중에 우리 자손에게 ‘너희에게는 여호와께로부터 나누어 받을 몫이 없다.’ 하고 말하지 못하게 하려는 것입니다.	But that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of the Lord before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the Lord.
28	우리가 말하려는 것은 이러합니다. 나중에 우리와 우리 뒷세대에게 그렇게 말하면 ‘우리 조상들이 본떠 만든 여호와 제단의 모양을 보아라!’라고 말하겠다는 것입니다. 이것은 다태우는제물(번제물)과 희생제물을 올릴 제단이 아닙니다. 이것은 우리와 여러분 사이의 증거물로 만든 것입니다.	Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say again, Behold the pattern of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it is a witness between us and you.
29	있을 수 없는 일입니다. 우리가 여호와께 맞서 대들다니요! 오늘 여호와께로부터 돌아서서 다태우는제물(번제물)이나 곡식제물(소제물)이나 희생제물을 바치는 다른 제단을 만드는 일은 있을 수 없습니다. 여호와 우리 하나님의 제단 곧 여호와께서 머무시는 천막 앞에 있는 제단 말고는요.”	God forbid that we should rebel against the Lord, and turn this day from following the Lord, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the Lord our God that is before his tabernacle.
30	르우벤 사람들, 갓 사람들, 므낫세 사람들이 하는 말을 비느하스 제사장이 들었다. 무리의 지도자들과 비느하스와 함께 간 이스라엘 각 가문의 어른들도 들었다. 그들은 그 말을 좋게 생각했다.	And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel which were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them.
31	엘르아살 제사장의 아들 비느하스가 르우벤 사람들, 갓 사람들, 므낫세 사람들에게 말했다. “오늘 우리가 알았습니다. 우리 가운데 여호와께서 계신다는 것을요. 여러분이 이처럼 여호와께 신의를 저버리지 않았으니까요. 여러분이 이스라엘 사람들을 여호와의 손에서 건져 냈습니다.”	And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we perceive that the Lord is among us, because ye have not committed this trespass against the Lord: now ye have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the Lord.
32	엘르아살 제사장의 아들 비느하스와 지도자들이 르우벤 사람들과 갓 사람들이 있는 길르앗 땅에서 가나안 땅, 이스라엘 사람들에게로 돌아왔다. 그러고는 그들에게 이 일을 보고했다.	And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.
33	이스라엘 사람들이 보기에는 그 일이 좋았다. 이스라엘 사람들은 하나님을 찬양하고는 더는 르우벤 사람들과 갓 사람들에게로 올라가서 싸우자고 말하지 않았다. 그들이 사는 땅을 쳐부수자고 하지 않았다.	And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and Gad dwelt.
34	르우벤 사람들과 갓 사람들은 그 제단을 두고 외쳤다. “이것은 여호와야말로 하나님이심을 우리 사이에 알려 주는 증거물이다!”	And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Ed: for it shall be a witness between us that the Lord is God.
