1	에스더가 임금과 하만을 잔치에 초대하다 3일째 되는 날이었다. 에스더는 왕비의 옷을 입고 왕궁 맞은편에 있는 왕궁 안뜰에 서 있었다. 임금은 왕궁에 있는 임금자리에, 왕궁 문을 마주 보고 앉아 있었다.	Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.
2	임금이 뜰에 서 있는 에스더 왕비를 보게 되는 일이 일어났다. 왕비가 그의 눈에 쏙 들었다. 그래서 임금은 손에 들고 있던 금지팡이를 에스더에게 내밀었다. 에스더는 다가가 지팡이 끝머리에 손을 댔다.	And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.
3	임금이 그에게 말했다. “무슨 일이오, 에스더 왕비? 바라는 게 무엇이오? 나라의 절반이라도 그대에게 주겠소.”	Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.
4	에스더가 말했다. “임금님이 괜찮으시다면, 오늘 임금님은 하만하고 같이 와 주세요. 제가 임금님을 위해서 잔칫상을 차려 놓았거든요.”	And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.
5	임금이 말했다. “어서 하만을 데려오너라. 에스더의 말대로 해야겠다.” 임금과 하만은 에스더가 차려 둔 잔치에 왔다.	Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
6	임금은 포도주를 마시다가 에스더에게 말했다. “그대가 갖고 싶은 것이 무엇이오? 그대에게 주겠소. 바라는 것이 무엇이오? 나라의 절반이라도 해 주겠소.”	And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.
7	에스더가 대답했다. “제가 갖고 싶은 것과 제가 바라는 것은 이러합니다.	Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is;
8	임금님이 저를 잘 봐주신다면요. 임금님이 제가 갖고 싶은 것을 주고, 제가 바라는 것을 해 주고 싶어 하신다면요. 그렇다면 임금님은 하만하고, 제가 두 분을 위해 차려 놓을 잔칫상을 드시러 오세요. 내일은 임금님 말씀대로 하겠습니다.”	If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said.
9	하만이 나무 기둥을 세우다 하만은 그날 즐겁고 기분이 좋아서 나갔다. 그런데 하만이 왕궁 문에서 모르드개를 보았을 때, 모르드개는 자기를 보고 일어나지도 않고 떨지도 않았다. 하만은 모르드개에게 화가 치밀었다.	Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.
10	그렇지만 하만은 마음을 가다듬고 집으로 돌아왔다. 그는 사람을 보내 친구들과 아내 세레스를 불러들였다.	Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.
11	하만은 그들에게 이야기해 주었다. 자기는 재산이 엄청나고 아들이 많다는 것이었다. 또 임금님이 자기를 높은 자리에 앉히고 관리들과 임금님의 신하들 위에 떠받들어 주었다는 것이었다.	And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.
12	하만은 덧붙여 말했다. “게다가 에스더 왕비님이 잔치를 마련하셨는데, 임금님하고 같이 부른 사람은 나밖에 없었단 말이야. 내일도 왕비님이 임금님하고 같이 오라고 한 사람은 바로 나야.	Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king.
13	그렇지만 나한테는 이게 다 아무것도 아닌 거야. 유다 사람 모르드개가 왕궁 문에 앉아 있는 것을 볼 때마다 그래.”	Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.
14	그러자 아내 세레스와 모든 친구가 그에게 말했다. “25미터 되는 높이의 나무 기둥을 세우고, 아침에 임금님께 말씀드려서 거기다가 모르드개를 매달아 죽이는 거예요. 그러고 나서 임금님과 함께 즐겁게 잔치에 가세요.” 하만은 이 말이 괜찮아 보여서 나무 기둥을 세웠다.	Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.
