1	광야를 거쳐 아르논 마른시내에 다다랐습니다 “우리는 방향을 바꾸어 홍해 길을 걸어 광야로 나아갔습니다. 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하신 대로요. 우리는 오랫동안 세일산 주변을 돌았어요.	Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the Lord spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.
2	여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨습니다.	And the Lord spake unto me, saying,
3	‘오래 이 산 주변을 돌았구나. 북쪽으로 방향을 바꾸어라.	Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
4	백성에게 명령을 전해 다오. 「이제 세일에 살고 있는 너희 형제 에서 자손의 지역을 지날 것이다. 그들이 너희를 두려워하고 있으므로, 매우 조심해야 한다.	And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:
5	그들과 다투지 마라. 그들의 땅은 내가 발바닥 크기만큼도 너희에게 주지 않을 것이다. 내가 세일산을 에서에게 주어 차지하게 했기 때문이다.	Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.
6	너희는 돈을 주고 그들에게서 먹을 것을 사서 먹고, 물도 돈을 주고 그들에게서 사서 마셔야 한다.」’	Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.
7	여호와 그대의 하나님이 그대의 손으로 하는 모든 일에 복을 내리셨습니다. 그대가 이 큰 광야를 걷는 것을 아셨지요. 이 40년 동안 여호와 그대의 하나님이 그대와 함께 계셔서, 그대에게 모자라는 것이 하나도 없었습니다.	For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the Lord thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
8	우리는 세일에 살고 있는 우리 형제들 곧 에서의 자손을 떠나, 아라바와 엘랏과 에시온게벨을 지나갔습니다. 그러고는 방향을 바꾸어 모압 광야 길을 지나갔습니다.	And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Ezion–gaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
9	여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘너는 모압을 괴롭히지 말고 그들과 다투지 마라. 그들의 땅은 내가 네 차지로 주지 않을 것이다. 아르를 내가 롯 자손에게 주어 차지하게 했기 때문이다.’”	And the Lord said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
10	이전에는 엠 사람들이 아르에 살았다. 몸이 크고 수가 많고 아낙 사람들처럼 키가 큰 백성이었다.	The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
11	아낙 사람들처럼 그들도 라바 사람들로 통했고, 모압 사람들은 그들을 엠 사람들이라고 불렀다.	Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.
12	세일에는 이전에 호리 사람들이 살았다. 그러다가 에서 자손이 그들을 몰아내고 자기들 앞에서 뿌리 뽑아 버리고 그들 대신에 살고 있었다. 이는 이스라엘이 여호와께서 자기들에게 주셔서 차지한 땅의 사람들에게 한 것과 같았다.	The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the Lord gave unto them.
13	“‘이제 일어나 세렛 마른시내를 건너거라.’ 하셔서 우리가 세렛 마른시내를 건넜습니다.	Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.
14	우리가 가데스바르네아를 떠나 세렛 마른시내를 건너기까지는 38년이 걸렸지요. 그동안 그 세대의 군인들은 진영 가운데서 모조리 죽었습니다. 여호와께서 그들에게 단호하게 말씀하신 대로요.	And the space in which we came from Kadesh–barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the Lord sware unto them.
15	여호와께서 손으로 그들을 쳐서 진영 가운데서부터 흩뜨려 놓으셨습니다. 마침내 그들이 모두 끝장났습니다.	For indeed the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
16	백성 가운데서 군인들이 모조리 죽었습니다.	So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
17	그러자 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨습니다.	That the Lord spake unto me, saying,
18	‘너는 오늘 모압 지역의 아르를 지나갈 것이다.	Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:
19	그러고는 암몬 사람들 맞은편으로 가까이 갈 것이다. 그들을 괴롭히지 말고 그들과 다투지 마라. 암몬 사람들의 땅은 내가 네 차지로 주지 않겠다. 그 땅은 내가 롯 자손에게 주어 차지하게 했기 때문이다.’”	And when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.
20	그 땅도 라바 사람들의 땅으로 통했다. 이전에는 그곳에 라바 사람들이 살았는데, 암몬 사람들은 그들을 삼숨 사람들이라고 불렀다.	(That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
21	몸이 크고 수가 많으며 아낙 사람들처럼 키도 큰 백성이었다. 그렇지만 여호와께서 그들을 암몬 사람들 앞에서 뿌리 뽑으셨다. 암몬 사람들이 그들을 몰아내고 그들 대신 살고 있었다.	A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the Lord destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead:
22	세일에 살고 있는 에서 자손을 위해 여호와께서 호리 사람들을 그들 앞에서 뿌리 뽑으신 것과 마찬가지이다. 암몬 사람들이 삼숨 사람들을 몰아내고 오늘까지 그들 대신 살고 있었다.	As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:
23	아와 사람들이 가자까지 이르는 여러 마을에 살고 있었다. 이들을 크레타에서 나온 크레타 사람들이 뿌리 뽑고 그들 대신 살고 있었다.	And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)
24	“‘일어나라. 길을 나서서 아르논 마른시내를 건너라. 보아라, 내가 헤스본 임금인 아모리 사람 시혼을 너의 손에 넘겨주었다. 그의 땅을 차지하기 시작해라. 그와 전쟁을 벌여라.	Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
25	이날에 내가, 너에 대한 무서움과 두려움이 온 하늘 아래 여러 백성의 얼굴에 서리게 하려고 한다. 그들이 너의 소문을 듣고 벌벌 떨며 너 때문에 불안해할 것이다.’” ()	This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.
26	헤스본 임금 시혼을 쳐부수었습니다 “내가 그데못 광야에서 헤스본 임금 시혼에게 심부름꾼들을 보내 평화의 메시지를 전하게 했습니다.	And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
27	‘임금님의 땅을 지나가게 해 주십시오. 나는 길로만 다니고, 오른쪽으로든 왼쪽으로든 길에서 벗어나지 않겠습니다.	Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
28	임금님께서 우리에게서 돈을 받고 파시는 양식을 먹겠습니다. 임금님께서 돈을 받고 우리에게 주시는 물을 마시겠습니다. 걸어서 지나가게만 해 주십시오.	Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;
29	세일에 살고 있는 에서 자손과 아르에 살고 있는 모압 사람들이 우리에게 해 준 것처럼요. 우리는 마침내 요르단을 건너, 여호와 우리 하나님이 우리에게 주신 땅으로 갈 것입니다.’	(As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the Lord our God giveth us.
30	그러나 헤스본 임금 시혼은 우리가 그리로 지나가게 해 주려 하지 않았습니다. 여호와 그대의 하나님이, 시혼의 생각이 굳어지고 그의 마음이 닫히게 하셨습니다. 그래서 오늘처럼 그를 여러분의 손에 넘겨주셨습니다.	But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the Lord thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day.
31	여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘보아라, 내가 시혼과 그의 땅을 너의 앞으로 넘겨주려고 한다. 너는 그의 땅을 차지해 나가거라!’	And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.
32	시혼이 자신의 온 백성을 거느리고 우리를 맞아 우리와 싸우려고 야하스로 나왔습니다.	Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.
33	그렇지만 여호와 우리 하나님이 그를 우리 앞으로 넘겨주셨습니다. 그래서 우리는 그와 그의 아들들과 그의 온 백성을 쳐부수었습니다.	And the Lord our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
34	그때 우리는 그의 도시를 모두 빼앗았습니다. 도시는 어디든 완전히 없애 버렸습니다. 남자와 여자와 아이를 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았습니다.	And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
35	다만 우리가 빼앗은 집짐승은 우리 것으로 삼았습니다. 우리가 점령한 여러 도시의 약탈물도 그렇게 했습니다.	Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.
36	아르논 마른시내 가장자리의 아로엘에서부터 그 마른시내에 있는 도시를 거쳐 길르앗에 이르기까지, 우리가 점령하지 못할 정도로 튼튼한 성읍은 없었습니다. 그 모든 곳을 여호와 우리 하나님이 우리 앞으로 넘겨주셨습니다.	From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the Lord our God delivered all unto us:
37	다만 암몬 사람들의 땅에는 그대가 가까이 가지 않았습니다. 얍복 마른시내 가장자리와 산지의 도시들과 여호와 우리 하나님이 금지하신 곳은 그 어디로도 가까이 가지 않았습니다.”	Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the Lord our God forbad us.
