1	300명만 붙잡아 두다 여룹바알 곧 기드온이 일찍 일어나 그와 함께한 모든 사람을 거느리고 하롯 샘 가에 진을 쳤다. 미디안 진영은 그들의 북쪽에 있었다. 골짜기에 있는 모레 언덕이었다.	Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
2	여호와께서 기드온에게 말씀하셨다. “너와 같이 있는 사람이 많구나. 그들의 손에 미디안을 내가 넘겨줄 수는 없지. 이스라엘이 내 앞에서 뽐내며 ‘내 손이 나를 구해 냈다.’ 하고 말할지도 모르거든.	And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.
3	이제 그 사람들의 귀에 들리도록 이렇게 외쳐라. ‘두려워서 떨고 있는 사람은 누구인가요? 그런 사람은 길르앗산에서 떠나 돌아가도 괜찮습니다.’” 그러자 사람들 가운데서 22,000명이 돌아가고 10,000명이 남았다.	Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
4	여호와께서 기드온에게 말씀하셨다. “아직도 사람이 많구나. 너는 그들을 데리고 물가로 내려가 보렴. 내가 거기서 너를 위해 사람들을 가려내 줄 것이다. 내가 너에게 ‘이 사람이 너와 같이 가야 해.’ 하고 말해 주면, 그는 너와 같이 갈 수 있다. 내가 너에게 ‘이 사람은 너와 같이 가면 안 돼.’ 하고 말해 주면, 그가 누구든 갈 수 없다.”	And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
5	기드온이 사람들을 데리고 물가로 내려갔다. 여호와께서 기드온에게 말씀하셨다. “개가 핥는 것처럼 혀로 물을 핥는 사람은 모두 따로 떼어 놓으렴. 무릎을 꿇고 마시는 사람도 모두 그렇게 하렴.”	So he brought down the people unto the water: and the Lord said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.
6	손으로 물을 떠서 입에 대고 핥는 사람의 수가 300명이었고, 나머지 사람들은 모두 무릎을 꿇고 물을 마셨다.	And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.
7	여호와께서 기드온에게 말씀하셨다. “핥은 사람 300명을 데리고 내가 너희를 구해 내 주어 미디안을 너의 손에 넘겨줄 것이다. 다른 사람들은 다 제자리로 돌아가게 하렴.”	And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
8	그들은 길양식과 나팔을 받았다. 이스라엘 사람 모두를 기드온이 저마다 자기 천막으로 돌려보냈고, 그 300명만 붙잡아 두었다. 미디안 진영은 골짜기의 아래쪽에 있었다.	So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9	미디안을 물리치다 그날 밤 여호와께서 기드온에게 또 말씀하셨다. “일어나 내려가서 그 진영을 쳐라. 내가 그들을 너의 손에 넘겨줄 테니.	And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.
10	네가 내려가는 것이 두려우면 너는 너를 시중드는 부라를 데리고 그 진영으로 내려가거라.	But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:
11	그리고 그들이 무슨 말을 하는지 들어 봐라. 그러고 나면 용기가 날 것이다. 네가 내려가서 그 진영을 칠 수 있을 것이다.” 그래서 기드온이 자기를 시중드는 부라를 데리고 내려갔다. 진영에서 언제라도 싸울 수 있게 줄지어 있는 군인들의 끄트머리 쪽에 이르렀다.	And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.
12	미디안과 아말렉과 모든 동쪽 사람이 골짜기를 뒤덮고 있었다. 메뚜기처럼 많았다. 그들의 낙타도 셀 수 없었다. 바닷가의 모래처럼 많았다.	And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.
13	기드온이 거기에 이르렀을 때, 한 사람이 옆 사람에게 꿈 이야기를 하고 있는 것이 아닌가! 그가 말했다. “여보게, 내가 꿈을 꾸었네. 보리빵 한 덩이가 미디안 진영으로 굴러 들어오는 것이 아닌가! 그것이 천막까지 굴러와서 천막을 치자 무너지더라고. 위로 뒤집혀 천막이 무너지더라고.”	And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.
14	옆 사람이 그 말을 받아 말했다. “그건 기드온의 칼일 수밖에 없어. 이스라엘 사람 요아스의 아들 말일세. 하나님이 미디안을, 그 모든 진영을 그의 손에 넘겨주신 거야.”	And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.
15	기드온이 그 꿈 이야기와 꿈풀이를 듣고는 엎드려 여호와께 절했다. 그러고는 이스라엘 진영으로 돌아와 말했다. “일어나세요. 여호와께서 미디안 진영을 여러분의 손에 넘겨주셨으니까요.”	And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.
16	기드온은 그 300명을 세 부대로 나누고는 모두의 손에 나팔과 빈 항아리를 쥐여 주었다. 항아리 속에는 횃불이 들어 있었다.	And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
17	기드온이 그들에게 말했다. “여러분은 나를 보고 그대로 하세요. 자, 내가 그 진영 끄트머리로 갈 텐데, 내가 하는 그대로 하세요.	And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.
18	내가, 또 나와 함께한 사람들이 모두 나팔을 불 텐데, 그러면 여러분도 그 온 진영 둘레에서 나팔을 부세요. 또 ‘여호와를 위하여! 기드온을 위하여!’ 하고 소리 지르세요.”	When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.
19	기드온은 자기와 함께한 100명을 거느리고 그 진영 끄트머리로 갔다. 한밤중이 시작될 무렵이었다. 지키는 사람들을 막 세웠던 때였다. 그들은 나팔을 불고 손에 쥐고 있던 항아리를 깨뜨렸다.	So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.
20	세 부대가 나팔을 불고 항아리를 부서뜨렸다. 왼손에는 횃불을 들고 오른손에는 나팔을 잡고서 불며 외쳤다. “여호와를 위한 칼, 기드온을 위한 칼이다!”	And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.
21	그들은 사람마다 제자리에서 그 진영 둘레에 섰다. 그러자 그 온 진영이 날뛰고 소리 지르며 도망쳤다.	And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.
22	300명이 나팔을 불자, 여호와께서는 사람들이 서로에게 칼을 휘두르게 하셨다. 그 온 진영에서 그렇게 하셨다. 미디안 군대가 스레라 쪽으로 벳싯다까지, 답밧 곁의 아벨므홀라의 경계까지 도망쳤다.	And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the Lord set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Beth–shittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abel–meholah, unto Tabbath.
23	납달리와 아셀과 온 므낫세에서 이스라엘 사람들을 불러 모았고, 그들이 미디안을 뒤쫓았다.	And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.
24	기드온은 에브라임 온 산지에 심부름꾼들을 보내어 말했다. “내려와서 미디안을 맞서 치세요. 벳바라까지 물을 차지하세요. 요르단강도 차지하세요.” 그렇게 에브라임 사람들을 모두 불러 모았고, 그들이 벳바라까지 물을 차지했다. 요르단강도 차지했다.	And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Beth–barah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Beth–barah and Jordan.
25	그들이 미디안의 두 지도자 오렙과 스엡을 붙잡아, 오렙은 오렙 바위에서 죽이고 스엡은 스엡 포도즙 틀에서 죽였다. 또 미디안을 뒤쫓았다. 오렙과 스엡의 머리는 요르단강 건너편의 기드온에게 가져다주었다.	And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.
