1	돌라가 이스라엘을 이끌다 아비멜렉에 뒤이어 이스라엘을 구해 내려고 일어난 사람은 부아의 아들이자 도도의 손자인 잇사갈 사람 돌라였다. 돌라는 에브라임 산지의 사밀에 살고 있었다.	And after Abimelech there arose to defend Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in mount Ephraim.
2	그가 23년 동안 이스라엘을 재판관(사사)으로서 이끌었다. 죽어서는 사밀에 묻혔다.	And he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.
3	야일이 이스라엘을 이끌다 그러고 나서 길르앗 사람 야일이 일어났다. 그가 22년 동안 이스라엘을 재판관(사사)으로서 이끌었다.	And after him arose Jair, a Gileadite, and judged Israel twenty and two years.
4	그에게는 30명의 아들이 있었다. 그들은 30마리의 수탕나귀를 탔다. 도시 서른 군데가 그들의 것이었다. 길르앗 땅에 있는 그 도시들을 오늘에 이르기까지 하봇야일이라 부른다.	And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havoth–jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
5	야일은 죽어 가몬에 묻혔다.	And Jair died, and was buried in Camon.
6	암몬 사람들이 싸우러 오다 이스라엘 사람들이 다시 여호와께서 보시기에 나쁜 짓을 저질렀다. 바알과 아슈타르테, 시리아의 신들, 시돈의 신들, 모압의 신들, 암몬 사람들의 신들, 필리스티아 사람들의 신들을 섬긴 것이다. 여호와를 버리고 섬기지 않은 것이다.	And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the Lord, and served not him.
7	여호와께서 이스라엘을 향한 노여움으로 불타오르셨다. 그래서 그들을 필리스티아 사람들과 암몬 사람들의 손에 내주셨다.	And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.
8	그들이 그해에 이스라엘 사람들을 쳐부수고 짓눌렀다. 요르단강 건너편에 있는 모든 이스라엘 사람을 열여덟 해 동안 그렇게 했다. 그곳은 길르앗에 있는 아모리 사람들의 땅이었다.	And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
9	암몬 사람들이 요르단강을 건너왔다. 유다와 베냐민과 에브라임 집안과도 싸우려고 온 것이다. 이스라엘에 엄청난 어려움이 닥쳤다.	Moreover the children of Ammon passed over Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.
10	그래서 이스라엘 사람들이 여호와께 도와 달라고 소리쳤다. “우리가 주님께 죄를 지었습니다. 우리 하나님을 떠나 바알들을 섬겼기 때문입니다.”	And the children of Israel cried unto the Lord, saying, We have sinned against thee, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.
11	여호와께서 이스라엘 사람들에게 대답하셨다. “이집트와 아모리 사람들, 암몬 사람들, 필리스티아 사람들에게 너희가 괴로움을 겪어 보지 않았느냐?	And the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Did not I deliver you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
12	시돈 사람들, 아말렉, 마온이 너희를 괴롭혔지. 그때 너희가 내게 도와 달라고 소리쳤고, 내가 너희를 그들의 손에서 구해 주지 않았느냐?	The Zidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.
13	그런데 너희는 나를 버리고 다른 신들을 섬기는구나. 그러므로 내가 너희를 더는 구해 주지 않을 것이다.	Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more.
14	가서, 너희가 고른 신들에게 도와 달라고 소리쳐 보아라. 너희가 어려움을 겪을 때 그들이 너희를 건져 내 주어야 할 것이다.”	Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.
15	이스라엘 사람들이 여호와께 말씀드렸다. “우리가 죄를 지었습니다. 주님은 우리에게 무엇이든 주님 보시기에 좋을 대로 하십시오. 그렇지만 오늘은 우리를 구해 주십시오.”	And the children of Israel said unto the Lord, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.
16	그들이 다른 나라 신들을 그들 가운데서부터 없애고 여호와를 섬겼다. 여호와께서는 이스라엘이 힘들어하는 것을 보시고 숨통이 막히셨다.	And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the Lord: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
17	불려 나온 암몬 사람들이 길르앗에 진을 쳤다. 이스라엘 사람들은 모여서 미스바에 진을 쳤다.	Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpeh.
18	길르앗의 백성과 고위 관리들이 서로 말했다. “누가 먼저 나가서 암몬 사람들과 싸움을 벌이겠습니까? 그는 길르앗에 사는 모든 사람의 우두머리가 될 것입니다.”	And the people and princes of Gilead said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
