1	언약상자가 이스라엘로 돌아오다 여호와의 상자(궤)가 필리스티아 사람들의 지역에 7개월 동안 있었다.	And the ark of the Lord was in the country of the Philistines seven months.
2	필리스티아 사람들이 제사장들과 점쟁이들을 불러 물었다. “우리가 여호와의 상자(궤)를 어떻게 해야 할까요? 제자리로 그것을 내보낼 때 무엇을 같이 보내야 할지 알려 주십시오.”	And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying, What shall we do to the ark of the Lord? tell us wherewith we shall send it to his place.
3	그들이 대답했다. “이스라엘의 하나님의 상자(궤)를 내보내려면, 아무 예물 없이 그것만 내보내서는 안 됩니다. 반드시 잘못없애는제물(속건제물)과 함께 그 하나님께 돌려드려야 합니다. 그럴 때에만 여러분의 부스럼도 나을 것입니다. 또 여러분에게 알려질 것입니다, 무슨 까닭으로 그 하나님의 손이 여러분한테서 떠나지 않았는지가요.”	And they said, If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: then ye shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you.
4	필리스티아 사람들이 물었다. “우리가 돌려드리면서 그분께 바칠 잘못없애는제물(속건제물)은 무엇일까요?” 그들이 대답했다. “필리스티아 우두머리의 수를 따라, 다섯 개의 금부스럼과 다섯 개의 금쥐입니다. 같은 재앙이 여러분 모두와 여러분의 우두머리들에게 닥친 것이니까요.	Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.
5	여러분에게 생긴 부스럼의 모습으로, 또 여러분의 땅을 망가뜨리는 쥐의 모습으로 만들도록 하세요. 그러고 나서 이스라엘의 하나님께 영광을 돌리세요. 어쩌면 그분이 그분의 손을 여러분과 여러분의 신들과 여러분의 땅에서 떼실 것입니다.	Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.
6	무슨 까닭으로 여러분은 여러분의 마음을 닫으려고 합니까, 이집트와 파라오가 그들의 마음을 닫았던 것처럼요? 그래서 그분이 그들에게 지독한 꼴을 당하게 하시고, 이스라엘을 내보내어 떠나가게 하시지 않았습니까?	Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?
7	그러니 이제 새 수레 한 대를 만드십시오. 그러고는 멍에를 멘 적이 없는 젖 먹이는 암소 두 마리를 데려다 놓으십시오. 그 암소들을 수레에 묶고 새끼들은 떼어 내어 집으로 돌려보내야 합니다.	Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them:
8	그리고 여호와의 상자(궤)를 가져오십시오. 그리고 그것을 수레에 실으십시오. 금으로 된 물건들 곧 그분께 잘못없애는제물(속건제물)로 바칠 것들을 안장주머니에 담아 상자(궤) 곁에 두도록 하십시오. 그러고는 그것을 내보내어 가게 하십시오.	And take the ark of the Lord, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.
9	이제 여러분은 지켜보도록 하십시오. 그 상자(궤)가 그 언저리 길로 올라가서 벳세메스로 향하는지를요. 그렇다면, 바로 그분이 우리에게 이 큰 재앙을 내리신 것입니다. 그렇지 않으면, 우리가 알 것입니다. 그분의 손이 우리를 치신 것이 아니라는 것을요. 우연히 이런 일이 우리에게 닥친 것입니다.”	And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth–shemesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.
10	그 사람들이 이처럼 했다. 젖 먹이는 암소 두 마리를 데려다가 수레에 묶었다. 그 새끼들은 제 집에 가두었다.	And the men did so; and took two milch kine, and tied them to the cart, and shut up their calves at home:
11	여호와의 상자(궤)는 수레에 실었다. 안장주머니도 실었다. 그 안에는 금쥐들, 그들에게 났던 부스럼 모습으로 만든 것들이 들어 있었다.	And they laid the ark of the Lord upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods.
12	암소들은 똑바로 길에서 길로만 나아가면서 벳세메스로 향했다. 한 큰길로 걷고 걸으며 음매음매 울었다. 오른쪽으로도 왼쪽으로도 길에서 벗어나지 않았다. 필리스티아 우두머리들도 그 뒤를 따라 벳세메스 언저리까지 갔다.	And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth–shemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left; and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth–shemesh.
13	그때 벳세메스에서는 골짜기의 밀을 거두어들이고 있었다. 사람들이 눈을 들어 그 상자(궤)를 보았다. 보고는 반가워했다.	And they of Beth–shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley: and they lifted up their eyes, and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.
14	그 수레가 벳세메스 사람 여호수아의 밭에 들어가서 거기에 섰다. 거기에는 큰 돌이 있었다. 그래서 나무 수레를 조각내어 암소들을 다태우는제물(번제물)로 여호와께 올려 드렸다.	And the cart came into the field of Joshua, a Beth–shemite, and stood there, where there was a great stone: and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine a burnt offering unto the Lord.
15	레위 사람들이 여호와의 상자(궤)와 옆에 있던 안장주머니를 내렸다. 그 안에는 금물건들이 있었다. 그것들을 큰 돌 위에 놓았다. 벳세메스 사람들은 그날 다태우는제물(번제물)들을 여호와께 올려 드리고 희생제물을 잡아 드렸다.	And the Levites took down the ark of the Lord, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone: and the men of Beth–shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the Lord.
16	필리스티아의 다섯 우두머리들이 보고는 그날 에그론으로 돌아갔다.	And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day.
17	필리스티아 사람들이 잘못없애는제물(속건제물)로 여호와께 바친 금부스럼은 이러했다. 아스돗을 위해 한 개, 가자를 위해 한 개, 아스글론을 위해 한 개, 가드를 위해 한 개, 에그론을 위해 한 개였다.	And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the Lord; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;
18	금쥐들은 다섯 우두머리들에게 딸린 필리스티아 모든 도시의 수를 따랐는데, 튼튼한 도시부터 시골 마을까지 아울렀다. 여호와의 상자(궤)를 올려 두었던 큰 돌은 벳세메스 사람 여호수아의 밭에 오늘까지 남아 있다.	And the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fenced cities, and of country villages, even unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set down the ark of the Lord: which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua, the Beth–shemite.
19	여호와께서 벳세메스 사람들을 치셨다. 그들이 여호와의 상자(궤)를 들여다보았기 때문이었다. 백성 가운데 50,070명을 치신 것이다. 백성이 그들의 죽음을 슬퍼했다. 여호와께서 백성을 큰 재앙으로 치셨기 때문이었다.	And he smote the men of Beth–shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the Lord, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.
20	언약상자를 아비나답의 집으로 가져가다 벳세메스 사람들이 말했다. “누가 여호와 이 거룩하신 하나님 앞에 설 수 있을까? 이 상자(궤)를 우리에게서 누구에게로 모셔 가게 해야 할까?”	And the men of Beth–shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy Lord God? and to whom shall he go up from us?
21	그들이 심부름꾼들을 기럇여아림에 사는 사람들에게 보내어 말했다. “필리스티아 사람들이 여호와의 상자(궤)를 돌려보냈습니다. 내려와서 그것을 여러분에게로 가지고 올라가십시오.”	And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath–jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the Lord; come ye down, and fetch it up to you.
