1	레위 사람들이 살 도시에 관한 명령 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. 여리고에 가까운 요르단 맞은편 모압 벌판에서였다.	And the Lord spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
2	“이스라엘 사람들에게 명령하여, 나누어 받아 차지한 땅에서 레위 사람들에게 그들이 살 도시들을 마련해 주도록 하여라. 도시 둘레의 목초지도 레위 사람들에게 마련해 주도록 하여라.	Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them.
3	그 도시들은 레위 사람들이 살 곳이 될 것이다. 도시 둘레의 목초지는 그들의 집짐승과 재산, 곧 모든 짐승을 풀어 먹일 곳이 될 것이다.	And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
4	너희가 레위 사람들에게 줄 도시 둘레의 목초지는 도시의 성벽 바깥을 빙 둘러 가며 1킬로미터가 되어야 한다.	And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.
5	너희는 도시를 한가운데에 두고, 도시 바깥 동쪽으로 1킬로미터, 남쪽으로 1킬로미터, 서쪽으로 1킬로미터, 북쪽으로 1킬로미터를 재어야 한다. 이것이 그들이 차지할 도시 둘레의 목초지가 될 것이다.	And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.
6	너희가 레위 사람들에게 마련해 줄 도시 가운데서 여섯 곳의 도시는 피신도시(도피성)로 삼아야 한다. 그래서 살인한 사람이 그리로 달아날 수 있게 해야 한다. 그 밖에도 도시 마흔두 군데를 마련해 주어야 한다.	And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.
7	레위 사람들에게 마련해 줄 도시는 모두 마흔여덟 군데여야 한다. 도시뿐만 아니라 도시 둘레의 목초지도 마련해 주어야 한다.	So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities: them shall ye give with their suburbs.
8	이스라엘 사람들이 차지한 땅 가운데서 너희가 마련해 줄 도시는 많이 받았으면 많이, 적게 받았으면 적게 내놓게 해야 한다. 저마다 나누어 받은 땅의 크기에 따라 자신에게 속한 여러 도시 가운데서 얼마를 레위 사람들을 위해 내놓게 해야 한다.” (; )	And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the children of Israel: from them that have many ye shall give many; but from them that have few ye shall give few: every one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his inheritance which he inheriteth.
9	피신도시에 관한 규정 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다.	And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
10	“이스라엘 사람들에게 말해 주어라. 그들에게 이렇게 일러 주어라. ‘너희가 요르단을 건너 가나안 땅으로 들어갈 것이다.	Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan;
11	그러면 너희는 몇 도시를 골라서, 피신도시(도피성)로 삼아야 한다. 그리하여 실수로 살인한 사람은 그리로 달아날 수 있게 해야 한다.	Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares.
12	너희는 그런 도시가 그들에게 앙갚음하려는 사람으로부터 피할 수 있는 곳이 되게 해야 한다. 그리하여 살인한 사람이 무리 앞에 서서 재판을 받을 때까지는 목숨을 잃지 않게 해야 한다.	And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment.
13	너희가 레위 사람들을 위해 내놓을 도시 가운데서 여섯 곳의 도시를 피신도시(도피성)로 삼아야 한다.	And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge.
14	세 곳의 도시는 요르단 건너편에서 고르고, 나머지 세 곳의 도시는 가나안 땅에서 골라 피신도시(도피성)로 삼아야 한다.	Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge.
15	이 여섯 곳의 도시는 이스라엘 사람들뿐만 아니라 그들 가운데서 나그네나 더부살이로 머무는 사람들에게도 피신도시(도피성)가 될 것이다. 실수로 사람을 쳐 죽인 사람이면 누구든 그리로 달아날 수 있다.	These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.
16	만일 쇠 연장으로 사람을 쳐 죽였으면, 그는 살인자이다. 그런 살인자는 반드시 죽여야 한다.	And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
17	사람을 죽일 만한 돌을 손에 들고 사람을 쳐 죽였으면, 그는 살인자이다. 그런 살인자는 반드시 죽여야 한다.	And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
18	사람을 죽일 만한 나무 연장을 손에 들고 사람을 쳐 죽였으면, 그는 살인자이다. 그런 살인자는 반드시 죽여야 한다.	Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
19	살인자는, 피를 앙갚음할 사람이 죽일 수 있다. 살인자를 만나면 죽일 수 있다.	The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.
20	밉다고 해서 사람을 밀어젖히거나, 숨어 기다리다가 무엇을 던져 사람을 죽였다고 하자.	But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;
21	또는 상대를 적으로 여기는 마음으로 사람을 손으로 쳐 죽였다고 하자. 그러면 그 친 사람은 반드시 죽여야 한다. 그는 살인자이다. 피를 앙갚음할 사람이 그 살인자를 만나면 죽일 수 있다.	Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.
22	상대를 적으로 여기는 마음 없이 갑자기 밀어젖히는 바람에 사람이 죽었거나, 숨어 기다린 것이 아닌데 무엇을 던져 사람이 죽었다고 하자.	But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,
23	또는 미처 살펴보지 못한 채로 사람을 죽일 만한 돌을 던졌는데 그 돌에 사람이 맞아 죽었다고 하자. 원수 사이도 아니고 사람을 해치려고 한 것도 아니었다고 하자.	Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy, neither sought his harm:
24	그러면 살인한 사람과 피를 앙갚음할 사람 사이에서 백성의 무리가 이런 여러 법령에 맞추어 판가름해야 한다.	Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:
25	살인한 사람을 백성의 무리가 피를 앙갚음할 사람의 손에서 빼내어, 그가 달아나서 들어간 그 피신도시(도피성)로 돌려보내야 한다. 그는 거룩한 기름으로 기름부음을 받은 대제사장이 죽을 때까지 그 안에서 살아야 한다.	And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.
26	살인한 그 사람이 자신이 달아나서 들어간 그 피신도시(도피성)의 경계 밖으로 나갔다고 하자.	But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;
27	그 피신도시(도피성) 경계 밖에서, 피를 앙갚음할 사람이 살인한 그 사람을 만나 죽였다고 하자. 그러면 이것은 피 흘린 죄가 되지 않는다.	And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:
28	그는 대제사장이 죽을 때까지 그가 피한 도시 안에 머물러야 한다. 대제사장이 죽고 나서야 살인한 그 사람은 자기가 차지했던 땅으로 돌아갈 수 있다.	Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
29	이것이 너희가 사는 곳이면, 어디서든지 대대로 지킬 법령 규정이 될 것이다.	So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
30	사람을 쳐 죽인 사람은 누구든, 곧 살인한 사람은 증인들의 말에 따라 죽여야 한다. 증인 한 명의 말만으로는 죽일 수 없다.	Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die.
31	사람을 죽인 죄가 드러나 죽여야 할 사람을, 돈을 받고 살려 주지 마라. 그는 반드시 죽여야 한다.	Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.
32	제사장이 죽기까지는, 사람을 죽이고서 피신도시(도피성)로 달아난 사람을 돈을 받고 자기 땅으로 돌아가게 하지 마라.	And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
33	너희가 사는 땅을 더럽히지 마라. 피는 땅을 더럽힌다. 피 흘린 땅은 피 흘린 사람의 피가 아니면, 피 흘린 죄를 씻어 깨끗하게 할 수 없다.	So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
34	너희가 살고 있는 땅, 곧 내가 머물고 있는 땅을 더럽히지 마라. 나 여호와가 이스라엘 사람들 가운데 머물고 있기 때문이다.’”	Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.
