1	미디안을 쳐부수다 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다.	And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2	“너는 이스라엘 사람들이 미디안 사람들에게 겪은 대로 앙갚음하여라! 그러고 나서야 네가 너의 조상들에게 갈 것이다.”	Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.
3	그리하여 모세가 백성에게 말했다. “그대들 가운데서 싸우러 나갈 사람들을 무장시킨 다음에, 그들이 미디안으로 쳐들어가서 여호와를 위해 미디안에 앙갚음하게 하십시오!	And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian.
4	이스라엘의 모든 지파에서 지파마다 1,000명씩 싸우러 보내야 합니다.”	Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.
5	이스라엘 여러 가문에서 지파마다 1,000명씩 뽑혔고, 12,000명이 싸울 채비를 했다.	So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
6	모세는 그들을 지파마다 1,000명씩 싸움에 내보냈다. 그들과 함께 엘르아살 제사장의 아들 비느하스도 싸움에 내보냈다. 거룩한곳(성소)에서 쓰는 여러 기구와 부는 트럼펫은 비느하스의 손에 맡겼다.	And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.
7	그들은 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 미디안으로 쳐들어가서 남자는 모조리 죽였다.	And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.
8	그렇게 죽인 군인들 말고도 미디안의 임금들을 죽였다. 곧 에위, 레겜, 수르, 후르, 레바라는 다섯 명의 미디안 임금들을 죽였다. 또 브올의 아들 발람을 칼로 쳐 죽였다.	And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
9	이스라엘 사람들은 미디안 여자들과 아이들을 사로잡고, 집짐승과 짐승 떼와 재산을 모조리 빼앗았다.	And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.
10	미디안 사람들이 살고 있던 모든 도시와 천막촌을 불태웠다.	And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.
11	사람 짐승 가리지 않고 약탈한 것과 빼앗은 것을 모두 끌고 왔다.	And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.
12	그들은 그렇게 사로잡은 사람과 빼앗은 것과 약탈한 것을 거느리고, 모세와 엘르아살 제사장과 이스라엘 사람들의 무리에게로 왔다. 여리고에 가까운 요르단 맞은편의 모압 벌판에 친 진영으로 돌아왔다.	And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.
13	싸우고 돌아온 사람들이 할 일을 알려 주다 모세와 엘르아살 제사장과 모인 무리의 모든 우두머리가 그들을 맞이하러 진영 밖으로 나왔다.	And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
14	모세는 싸우고 돌아온 지휘관들, 곧 천명대장들과 백명대장들에게 화를 냈다.	And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.
15	모세가 그들에게 말했다. “그대들이 여자는 모두 살려 둔 것입니까?	And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
16	보세요, 이 여자들은 브올 사건에서 발람의 말에 따라 이스라엘 사람들이 여호와를 배신하게 했지요. 그래서 여호와의 백성의 무리 가운데 재앙이 일어나게 했습니다.	Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.
17	이제 아이들 가운데서 사내는 죽이세요. 그리고 사내와 잠자리하여 남자를 아는 여자는 누구든지 죽이세요.	Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
18	사내와 잠자리할 줄 알지 못하는 여자아이들은 모두 그대들을 위해 살려 두세요.	But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19	그대들은 진영 밖에서 7일을 지내세요. 사람을 죽였거나 주검에 닿은 사람은 누구든 셋째 날과 일곱째 날에 죄를 없애야 합니다. 그대들뿐만 아니라 그대들에게 사로잡혀 온 사람들도 그렇게 해야 합니다.	And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.
20	옷, 가죽 물품, 염소 털로 만든 것, 나무로 만든 기구는 무엇이든 죄를 없애야 합니다.”	And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood.
21	엘르아살 제사장이 싸우러 나갔던 군인들에게 말했다. “여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 율법 규정은 이러합니다.	And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses;
22	‘금과 은과 놋과 쇠와 주석과 납,	Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23	곧 불에 들어가도 괜찮은 것은 무엇이나 불속을 거쳐 가게 해야 한다. 그러면 깨끗해질 것이다. 그렇지만 더러움 씻는 물로도 죄를 씻어야 한다. 불에 들어가지 못할 것은 무엇이나 물속을 거쳐 가게 해야 한다.	Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
24	너희는 일곱째 날에 옷을 빨아서 깨끗하게 해야 한다. 그런 다음에야 진영으로 들어갈 수 있다.’”	And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.
25	빼앗아 온 것을 나누다 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다.	And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
26	“사람이든 짐승이든 빼앗은 것과 사로잡아 온 것이 모두 얼마나 되는지 머릿수를 세어 보아라. 너와 엘르아살 제사장과 무리의 아버지 쪽 우두머리들이 함께 세어 보아라.	Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:
27	빼앗은 것은 싸우러 나가서 싸웠던 사람들과 남아 있던 온 무리에게 반씩 나누어 주어라.	And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:
28	싸우러 나간 군인들에게는 그들이 여호와에게 바칠 것을 올려 드리게 해라. 사람, 소, 나귀, 양을 모두 500분의 1씩 바치게 해라.	And levy a tribute unto the Lord of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:
29	그 가운데서 절반을 가져다가 엘르아살 제사장에게 주어라. 이것은 여호와에게 바치는 예물이다.	Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the Lord.
30	너는 이스라엘 사람들이 나누어 받은 절반 가운데서 사람, 소, 나귀, 양, 집짐승을 모두 50분의 1씩 받아라. 그것을 여호와가 머무는 천막을 지키는 레위 사람들에게 넘겨주어라.”	And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.
31	모세와 엘르아살 제사장은 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 했다.	And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.
32	전리품 곧 군인들이 빼앗은 약탈물 가운데서 남겨서 끌고 온 것은 이러했다. 양이 675,000마리이고,	And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,
33	소가 72,000마리이고,	And threescore and twelve thousand beeves,
34	나귀는 61,000마리였다.	And threescore and one thousand asses,
35	사람으로는 남자와 잠자리할 줄 알지 못하는 여자가 모두 32,000명이었다.	And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.
36	전리품의 절반은 싸우러 나간 사람들의 몫이 되었다. 양이 337,500마리여서,	And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:
37	양 가운데서 여호와께 바친 것은 675마리였다.	And the Lord’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.
38	소는 36,000마리여서, 그들이 여호와께 바친 것은 72마리였다.	And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and twelve.
39	나귀는 30,500마리여서, 그들이 여호와께 바친 것은 61마리였다.	And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and one.
40	사람은 16,000명이어서, 그들이 여호와께 바친 것은 32명이었다.	And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was thirty and two persons.
41	모세는 그들이 여호와께 바친 예물을 엘르아살 제사장에게 넘겨주었다. 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로였다.	And Moses gave the tribute, which was the Lord’s heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses.
42	모세는 군인들에게서 받은 것의 절반을 이스라엘 사람들에게 나누어 주었다.	And of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided from the men that warred,
43	무리가 나누어 받은 절반 가운데서 양은 337,500마리이고,	(Now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep,
44	소는 36,000마리이고,	And thirty and six thousand beeves,
45	나귀는 30,500마리였다.	And thirty thousand asses and five hundred,
46	사람은 16,000명이었다.	And sixteen thousand persons;)
47	모세는 이스라엘 사람들이 나누어 받은 절반 가운데서 사람과 짐승을 50분의 1씩 받았다. 그것을 여호와께서 머무시는 천막을 지키는 레위 사람들에게 넘겨주었다. 여호와께서 그에게 명령하신 대로였다.	Even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lord commanded Moses.
48	빼앗은 것 가운데서 예물을 드리다 수많은 군인들의 지휘관인 천명대장들과 백명대장들이 모세에게 나아왔다.	And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:
49	그러고는 모세에게 말했다. “어르신의 종인 우리가 우리 손 아래에 있는 군인들이 모두 얼마나 되는지 빠짐없이 조사했습니다. 그 가운데 한 사람도 잃지 않았습니다.	And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.
50	우리가 여호와께 바칠 예물로 저마다 찾아낸 것, 곧 발찌, 팔찌, 도장반지, 귀고리, 목걸이 같은 금붙이를 가져왔습니다. 여호와 앞에서 우리를 위해 죄를 없애려고요.”	We have therefore brought an oblation for the Lord, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.
51	모세와 엘르아살 제사장은 그들에게서 금 곧 금으로 만든 온갖 물건을 받았다.	And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.
52	여호와께 올린 예물의 금은 모두 201킬로그램이었다. 천명대장들과 백명대장들에게서 받은 것이었다.	And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the Lord, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.
53	군인들이 저마다 빼앗은 것이었다.	(For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.)
54	모세와 엘르아살 제사장은 천명대장들과 백명대장들에게서 금을 받았다. 그리고 그것을 만남의 천막으로 가져가서, 이스라엘 사람들을 기억나게 하는 물건으로 여호와 앞에 두었다.	And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.
