1	아랏을 완전히 없애 바치다 가나안 사람인 아랏의 임금이 네게브에 살고 있었는데, 이스라엘이 아다림 길로 온다는 소식을 들었다. 그가 이스라엘과 싸워서 몇 사람을 사로잡았다.	And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
2	이스라엘이 여호와께 단단히 약속하며 말씀드렸다. “이 백성을 우리 손에 넘겨주기만 하신다면, 그들의 도시들을 완전히 없애 버리겠습니다.”	And Israel vowed a vow unto the Lord, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
3	여호와께서 이스라엘의 소리를 들으시고, 가나안 사람들을 넘겨주셨다. 이스라엘은 가나안 사람들과 그들의 도시들을 완전히 없애 버렸다. 그래서 그곳의 이름을 호르마라 했다.	And the Lord hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
4	놋뱀을 쳐다보면 살 수 있게 하시다 그들은 호르산에서 홍해 길을 따라, 에돔 땅을 돌아서 나아갔다. 백성은 그 길 때문에 숨통이 막혔다.	And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
5	백성이 하나님과 모세에게 대들며 말했다. “우리를 이집트에서 끌어내어 왜 광야에서 죽이려는 것입니까? 음식도 없고 물도 없습니다. 이 형편없는 음식이 지긋지긋합니다.”	And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
6	그러자 여호와께서 백성 가운데로 불타는 듯한 뱀들을 보내 백성을 물게 하셨다. 그래서 이스라엘 가운데서 사람이 많이 죽었다.	And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
7	백성이 모세에게 와서 매달렸다. “우리가 죄를 지었습니다. 우리가 여호와와 어르신께 대들며 말했습니다. 여호와께 기도해 주십시오. 우리에게서 뱀을 없애 주시도록요.” 모세가 백성을 위해 기도했다.	Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord, and against thee; pray unto the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
8	여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “불타는 듯한 뱀을 만들어서 장대에 매달아라. 뱀에게 물린 사람은 누구라도 그것을 쳐다보면 살 수 있을 것이다.”	And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
9	모세는 놋으로 뱀을 만들어, 그것을 장대에 매달았다. 뱀이 사람을 물었더라도, 그 사람이 놋뱀을 쳐다보면 살 수 있었다.	And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
10	모압 들판까지 나아가다 이스라엘 사람들이 나아가 오봇에서 진을 쳤다.	And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
11	오봇에서 나아가서는 이예아바림에서 진을 쳤다. 해 돋는 쪽, 모압 앞쪽의 광야에 있는 곳이었다.	And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije–abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
12	거기서 나아가서는 세렛 마른시내에서 진을 쳤다.	From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
13	거기서 나아가서는 아르논 건너편에서 진을 쳤다. 아모리 국경에서 벗어나는 광야에 있는 곳이었다. 아르논은 모압과 아모리 사이의 모압 국경이었다.	From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
14	그러므로 ‘여호와의 전쟁 책’에서는 이렇게 말한다. “수바의 와헵과 또 아르논의 여러 마른시내를 지나갔다.	Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the Lord, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
15	아르 마을까지 뻗어 있는 여러 마른시내의 비탈을 지나갔다. 모압 국경을 따라갔다.”	And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.
16	거기서는 브엘로 갔다. 브엘은 여호와께서 모세에게 이렇게 말씀하셨던 곳이다. “백성을 불러 모아라! 내가 그들에게 물을 줄 것이다.”	And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the Lord spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
17	그때 이스라엘은 이런 노래를 불렀다. “우물아, 물을 내어 다오! 여러분은 우물에게 노래해 주세요!	Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
18	우물은 지도자들이 팠지요. 백성의 어른들이 팠어요. 지팡이로, 막대기로요.” 그들은 광야에서 맛다나로 갔다.	The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
19	맛다나에서는 나할리엘로 갔고, 나할리엘에서는 바못으로 갔다.	And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
20	바못에서는 모압 들판에 있는 골짜기로 갔다. 앞쪽으로 광야가 내려다보이는 비스가 꼭대기 가까이 갔다. ()	And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
21	아모리 땅과 바산 임금 옥의 땅을 차지하다 이스라엘이 심부름꾼들을 아모리 임금 시혼에게 보내어 요청했다.	And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
22	“우리가 임금님의 땅을 지나가게 해 주십시오. 들판이나 포도밭으로 벗어나지 않겠습니다. 우물물을 마시지도 않겠습니다. 임금님의 영토를 다 지나갈 때까지 ‘임금의 길’로만 가겠습니다.”	Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.
23	그러나 시혼은 이스라엘이 그의 영토를 지나가게 허락하지 않았다. 시혼은 그의 온 백성을 모아 이스라엘을 맞으러 광야로 나갔다. 야하스에 이르러 이스라엘과 싸웠다.	And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
24	이스라엘은 날카로운 칼로 그를 물리치고, 그의 땅을 차지했다. 아르논에서부터 얍복까지, 암몬 사람들에게까지 이르렀다. 암몬 사람들의 국경은 튼튼했다.	And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
25	이스라엘은 이 모든 도시를 빼앗았다. 이스라엘은 아모리 사람들의 모든 도시에 자리를 잡고 살았다. 헤스본과 그에 딸린 모든 마을에 살았다.	And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
26	헤스본은 아모리 임금 시혼의 도시였다. 그는 모압의 이전 임금과 싸워 아르논까지 이르는 모압 땅을 그의 손에서 빼앗은 적이 있었다.	For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
27	그러므로 비웃는 말을 만드는 사람들이 이렇게 말했다. “헤스본으로 오세요. 도시 시혼을 튼튼하게 세워 봐요.	Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
28	불이 헤스본에서 나오고, 불꽃이 시혼의 성읍에서 나왔군요. 모압의 아르를 집어삼키고, 아르논 여러 산등성이의 주인들을 집어삼켰군요.	For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
29	그대 큰일 났군요, 모압! 망해 버렸군요, 그대 그모스의 백성! 그모스가 자신의 아들들을 내주어 피난민이 되게 하고, 자신의 딸들을 내주어 아모리 임금 시혼에게 포로가 되게 했군요.	Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
30	우리가 그들에게 화살을 날렸어요. 헤스본은 디본에 이르기까지 망했군요. 우리가 노바흐에 이르기까지, 메드바에 이르기까지 그들을 망가뜨렸지요.”	We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
31	이스라엘은 아모리 땅에 자리 잡았다.	Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
32	모세는 사람들을 보내어 야셀을 다니며 살펴보게 했다. 그들은 야셀 둘레의 여러 마을을 빼앗고 거기 있던 아모리 사람들을 몰아냈다.	And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
33	그들은 나아가서 바산 길로 올라갔다. 바산 임금 옥이 그들을 맞아 에드레이에서 싸우려고, 온 백성을 거느리고 나왔다.	And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
34	여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “그를 두려워하지 마라! 그와 그의 온 백성과 땅을 내가 너의 손에 넘겨주겠다. 그에게도, 헤스본에 살고 있던 아모리 임금 시혼에게 했던 대로 해라!”	And the Lord said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
35	모세는 그와 그의 아들들과 그의 온 백성을 쳐서 마침내는 한 사람도 살려 두지 않았다. 그러고는 그의 땅을 차지했다.	So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
