1	바위에서 물이 솟아나게 하다 이스라엘 사람들 곧 그 온 무리가 첫째 달에 친 광야에 이르렀다. 그 백성이 가데스에 머물렀다. 거기서 미리암이 죽어서 거기서 장례를 치렀다.	Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
2	그런데 무리에게 물이 없었다. 사람들이 모세와 아론에게로 모여들었다.	And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
3	백성이 모세와 다투며 이렇게 따졌다. “우리의 형제들이 여호와 앞에서 숨을 거둘 때 우리도 숨을 거두었더라면!	And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the Lord!
4	당신들은 여호와께로 모인 무리를 왜 이 광야로 데려와서, 우리와 우리 짐승을 여기서 죽이려 하는 것입니까?	And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
5	우리를 이집트에서 끌어내어 왜 이 험한 곳으로 데려온 것입니까? 이곳은 씨 뿌릴 만한 곳도 아닙니다. 무화과와 포도와 석류도 없고, 마실 물도 없습니다.”	And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
6	모세와 아론은 그 모인 무리 앞에서 만남의 천막 입구로 가서 엎드렸다. 그러자 여호와의 영광이 그들에게 나타났다.	And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto them.
7	여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다.	And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
8	“너와 네 형 아론은 지팡이를 잡고 무리를 불러 모아라. 너희가 그들의 눈앞에서 바위에게 말하면, 바위가 물을 솟구쳐 낼 것이다. 너는 그들을 위해 바위에서 물이 솟아나게 하여, 이 무리와 그들의 짐승이 마시게 하여라.”	Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.
9	모세가 여호와께서 그에게 명령하신 대로 여호와 앞에서 지팡이를 잡았다.	And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him.
10	모세와 아론은 모인 무리를 바위 앞으로 불러 모아, 그들에게 말했다. “잘 들어 보십시오, 이런 고집쟁이들! 이 바위에서라도 우리가 그대들을 위해 물이 솟아나게 해야 한단 말입니까?”	And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
11	모세가 손을 들어 지팡이로 바위를 두 번 치자, 물이 펑펑 솟아났다. 무리와 짐승이 그 물을 마셨다.	And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
12	여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하셨다. “너희가 나를 믿지 않아서 나의 거룩함을 이스라엘 사람들의 눈앞에서 드러내 보이지 못했구나. 그러므로 너희는 내가 그들에게 준 땅으로 이 모인 무리를 데리고 들어가지 못할 것이다.”	And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
13	이 물이 바로 므리바의 물이다. 이스라엘 사람들이 여호와와 다투었기 때문이다. 여호와께서는 자신의 거룩함을 그들에게 이렇게 드러내 보이셨다.	This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the Lord, and he was sanctified in them.
14	에돔이 자기 영토를 지나가지 못하게 하다 모세가 가데스에서 심부름꾼들을 보내어 에돔 임금에게 요청했다. “임금님의 형제 이스라엘이 말씀드립니다. 임금님이야말로 우리가 겪은 온갖 어려움을 아십니다.	And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us:
15	우리 조상들은 이집트로 내려가서 이집트에서 오랫동안 살았습니다. 그런데 이집트 사람들이 우리와 우리 조상들을 괴롭혔습니다.	How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
16	그래서 우리가 여호와께 부르짖자 여호와께서 우리의 소리를 들으셨습니다. 심부름꾼인 천사를 보내어 우리를 이집트에서 데리고 나오셨습니다. 보십시오! 이제 우리가 임금님의 영토 가장자리에 있는 도시 가데스에 와 있습니다.	And when we cried unto the Lord, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:
17	부디 우리가 임금님의 땅을 지나가게 해 주십시오. 들판이나 포도밭으로는 지나가지 않고, 우물물을 마시지도 않겠습니다. ‘임금의 길’로만 가겠습니다. 임금님의 영토를 다 지나갈 때까지 오른쪽으로도 왼쪽으로도 벗어나지 않겠습니다.”	Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.
18	에돔 임금이 모세에게 대답을 전해 왔다. “우리 땅으로 지나가서는 안 된다! 지나간다면, 내가 나가서 너를 칼로 맞을 것이다.”	And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass by me, lest I come out against thee with the sword.
19	이스라엘 사람들이 다시 그에게 말했다. “우리는 큰길로만 가겠습니다. 우리나 우리 짐승이 임금님의 물을 마시면, 그 값을 치르겠습니다. 아무 일 없이 곧장 지나가기만 하겠습니다.”	And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.
20	에돔 임금이 대답했다. “지나가지 마라!” 그러고는 이스라엘을 맞으러 많은 백성을 거느리고 강한 모습으로 나아왔다.	And he said, Thou shalt not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
21	에돔이 자기 영토로는 이스라엘을 지나가지 못하게 했으므로, 이스라엘은 에돔을 비켜서 갔다.	Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
22	호르산에서 아론이 죽다 이스라엘 사람들 곧 그 온 무리가 가데스에서 호르산을 향해 길을 나섰다.	And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
23	여호와께서 에돔 땅 국경에 있는 호르산에서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하셨다.	And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,
24	“아론은 조상들에게로 갈 것이다. 내가 이스라엘 사람들에게 준 땅에는 들어가지 못할 것이다. 너희가 므리바 물가에서 내 명령을 거슬렀기 때문이다.	Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
25	너는 아론과 그의 아들 엘르아살을 데리고 호르산으로 올라가라.	Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:
26	아론에게서 옷을 벗겨 그의 아들 엘르아살에게 입혀라. 아론은 조상들에게 갈 것이다. 거기서 죽을 것이다.”	And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
27	모세는 여호와께서 명령하신 대로 했다. 그들은 온 무리의 눈앞에서 호르산으로 올라갔다.	And Moses did as the Lord commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
28	모세는 아론에게서 옷을 벗겨 그의 아들 엘르아살에게 입혔다. 아론이 거기 호르산 꼭대기에서 죽고, 모세와 엘르아살은 그 산에서 내려왔다.	And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.
29	아론이 숨 거둔 것을 온 무리가 알고는, 이스라엘 온 집이 30일 동안 아론의 죽음을 슬퍼하여 울었다.	And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
