1	동쪽 지방의 점성가들이 찾아오다 예수님이 태어나신 것은 유대아의 베들레헴에서이다. 헤롯 임금 시절이었다. 그런데, 보라, 이때 점성가들이 동쪽 지방으로부터 예루살렘에 다다랐다.	Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2	그들이 말했다. “유대아 사람들의 임금으로 태어나신 분이 어디 계십니까? 우리가 동녘에서 그분의 별을 보고 그분께 엎드려 절하려고 왔습니다.”	Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
3	이 말을 듣고서 헤롯 임금은 겁에 질렸다. 그와 더불어 예루살렘 전체도 그랬다.	When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4	그래서 헤롯은 백성의 대제사장들과 율법학자들을 모두 불러 모으고는 그들한테 알아보았다. “그리스도께서 태어나실 곳은 어디요?”	And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
5	그들이 말했다. “유대아의 베들레헴입니다. 예언자가 이렇게 적어 두었습니다.	And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
6	‘또 너 베들레헴아, 유다의 땅아! 너는 유다의 지도자들 가운데서 결코 가장 작지 않다. 너에게서 다스리는 사람이 나올 테니까. 그가 나의 백성 이스라엘을 양처럼 돌볼 것이다.’”	And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
7	그때에 헤롯이 점성가들을 몰래 불러서 별이 나타난 그 시간을 그들한테 자세히 물어 알아냈다.	Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
8	또 그들을 베들레헴으로 보낼 때에 말했다. “가서 그 아이에 대해 찬찬히 알아보시오. 찾아내면 나에게도 알려 주시오. 나도 직접 가서 그에게 엎드려 절하도록 말이오.”	And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
9	그들은 임금의 말을 듣고서 길을 떠났다. 그런데, 보라, 그 별, 그들이 동쪽 지방에서 본 그 별이 그들보다 앞서서 갔다. 그 별은 한참을 가서 그 아이가 있는 곳 위에 멈추어 섰다.	When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10	그들은 그 별을 보았을 때, 매우 크게 기뻐했다.	When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11	그러고는 그 집 안으로 들어가서 그 아이가 엄마 마리아와 함께 있는 것을 보았다. 그들은 무릎을 꿇고 그 아이에게 엎드려 절했다. 그리고 자기들의 보물 상자를 열어서 그 아이 앞에 선물, 곧 황금과 유향과 몰약을 가져다드렸다.	And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
12	그러고는 꿈에 헤롯한테 다시 가지 말라는 지시를 받고서, 다른 길을 통해 자기들 나라로 돌아갔다.	And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13	이집트로 피신하다 점성가들이 돌아간 뒤에, 보라, 주님의 천사가 꿈에 요셉에게 나타나 말한다. “일어나서 아이와 아이 엄마를 데리고 이집트로 피신하세요. 그리고 거기 계세요. 내가 그대에게 다시 말해 줄 때까지요. 당장이라도 헤롯이 그 아이를 찾아 없애 버리려 하고 있어요.”	And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14	요셉이 일어나서 밤에 아이와 아이 엄마를 데리고 이집트로 떠나갔다.	When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15	그러고는 헤롯이 삶을 마감하기까지 거기에 있었다. 주님이 예언자를 통해 하신 말씀을 이루려고 하신 것이었다. 이런 말씀이었다. “이집트에서 나의 아들을 불러냈다.”	And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
16	헤롯이 어린 남자아이들을 죽이다 그때에 헤롯은 점성가들에게 속은 것을 알고서 몹시 화가 났다. 그래서 사람들을 내보내어 베들레헴과 그 경계 지역에 있는 남자아이들을 두 살부터 그 아래로 모두 죽이게 했다. 점성가들에게 자세히 물어 알아내려고 했던 그 시간을 기준으로 한 것이었다.	Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.
17	그때에 예언자 예레미야를 통해 하신 말씀이 이루어졌다. 이런 말씀이었다.	Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
18	“소리가 라마에서 들리는구나! 큰 울음과 애통 소리구나! 라헬이 자기 자식 일로 우는데, 위로받으려 하지 않는구나. 자식이 없어진 까닭이야.”	In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
19	이집트에서 돌아오다 헤롯이 삶을 끝마쳤을 때, 보라, 주님의 천사가 이집트에 있는 요셉에게 꿈에 나타난다.	But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20	천사가 말한다. “일어나서 아이와 아이 엄마를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 가세요. 아이의 목숨을 찾던 사람들이 죽었어요.”	Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
21	요셉이 일어나서 아이와 아이 엄마를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 들어갔다.	And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22	그런데 아르켈라오가 자기 아버지 헤롯을 대신해서 유대아를 다스린다는 말을 듣고서 요셉은 거기로 가기를 두려워했다. 꿈에 지시를 받고서 갈릴래아 지역으로 떠나갔다.	But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
23	그러고는 나사렛이라 하는 도시로 가서 자리 잡고 살았다. 그리하여 예언자들을 통해서 ‘그는 나사렛 사람이라 불릴 것이다.’ 하신 말씀이 이루어졌다.	And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
