1	아합 가문의 남은 자들이 학살당하다 아직도 사마리아에 아합의 자손이 칠십 명 있었다. 그래서 예후는 사마리아에 있는 고관들과 장로들과 아합 자손의 교육을 맡은 사람들에게 다음과 같은 편지를 보냈다.	And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab’s children, saying,
2	"너희는 주군의 왕자들을 모시고 있고 병거대와 기병대도 갖고 있다. 그뿐만 아니라 성읍은 요새화되어 있는데다가 무기도 넉넉할 테니, 이 편지를 받는 대로 곧	Now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour;
3	왕자들 가운데서 가장 훌륭하고 적당하다고 생각되는 자를 골라 부왕을 이어 왕위에 올려 앉히고, 그대들이 떠받드는 왕가의 편을 들어 나와 맞서도록 하여라."	Look even out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.
4	그들은 크게 두려워하였다. "두 왕이 당해 내지 못하였는데 우리가 어떻게 당해 내겠소?"	But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
5	그리하여 아합 가문의 궁내대신과 성주와 장로들과 왕실 교육을 맡은 사람들은 예후에게 다음과 같은 회신을 보냈다. "우리는 당신의 신하입니다. 당신께서 명령하시는 일이라면 무슨 일이라도 하겠습니다. 우리가 다른 왕을 세운다는 것은 있을 수 없는 일입니다. 아무쪼록 좋으실 대로 하십시오."	And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.
6	예후는 다시 편지를 써서 보냈다. "너희가 만일 내 편이 되어 내가 명령하는 대로 하겠다면, 너희가 섬기던 왕가의 사람들과 우두머리들을 내일 이맘때까지 이 곳 이즈르엘의 나에게 데려오도록 하여라." 그 때 왕자들 칠십 명은 모두 그들을 키우던 그 성의 지도자들과 함께 있었는데,	Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be mine, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
7	이 편지를 받고 그들은 그 왕자들 칠십 명을 모두 잡아 죽였다. 그리고 그 머리를 바구니에 담아서 이즈르엘에 있는 예후에게 보냈다.	And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
8	전령이 와서 예후에게 그들이 왕자들의 머리를 가져왔다고 보고하자, 그는 그 머리들을 성문 앞마당에 두 무더기로 쌓아서 다음날 아침까지 두라고 명하였다.	And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning.
9	이튿날 아침이 되자 그는 나가 서서 거기에 모인 백성에게 말하였다. "선량한 국민 여러분, 보시는 대로 내가 혁명을 일으켜 상전을 죽였소. 이 사람들이야 다 누가 죽였든,	And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10	이 점만은 알아두시오. 야훼께서 아합 가문에 내리신 말씀은 한마디도 땅에 떨어지지 않을 것이오. 야훼께서는 당신의 종 엘리야를 시켜 말씀하신 것을 그대로 이루셨소."	Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord spake concerning the house of Ahab: for the Lord hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.
11	이렇게 말하고 나서 예후는 이즈르엘에 남아 있던 아합 가문에 속한 사람을 모두 죽였다. 아합 가문을 둘러싸고 있던 지도자들과 측근들과 제사장들을 하나도 남기지 않고 다 죽였다.	So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
12	유다의 왕자들이 학살당하다 그리고 나서 예후는 사마리아를 향해 출발하여 가다가 벳에켓하로임에 이르러	And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
13	유다 왕 아하지야의 동생들을 만났다. 예후가 "너희는 누구인가?" 하고 물었다. "우리는 아하지야의 동생들입니다. 왕자들과 대비의 일가에 문안을 드리러 왔던 길입니다." 하고 그들이 대답하자	Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.
14	예후는 "저놈들을 사로잡아라." 하고 명령하였다. 사로잡아서 죽인 후 벳에켓에 있는 구덩이에 처넣으니 그들 사십이 명이 하나도 남지 않고 다 죽었다.	And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
15	예후와 여호나답 그리고 다시 떠나가는데 레갑의 아들 여호나답이 그를 맞으러 나왔다. 예후는 그를 만나 인사를 나눈 다음, "나는 그대를 진정으로 믿는데, 그대도 나를 그처럼 믿어주겠소?" 하고 물었다. 여호나답이 그러겠다고 대답하자 예후는 "그대 생각이 그러하다면 손을 내미시오." 하고 말하였다. 여호나답이 손을 내밀자 예후는 그를 자기의 병거에 끌어올리며	And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thine heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thine hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.
16	말하였다. "함께 갑시다. 내가 얼마나 야훼께 열성을 품고 있는지 보여주겠소." 그리고 그를 자기의 병거에 태워	And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord. So they made him ride in his chariot.
17	사마리아에 이르러 아합의 잔당들을 하나도 남기지 않고 다 죽였다. 이렇게 예후는 야훼께서 엘리야에게 말씀하신 대로 하였다.	And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the Lord, which he spake to Elijah.
18	예후가 바알 숭배를 근절하다 그리고 나서 예후는 모든 백성을 모아놓고 말하였다. "아합은 바알을 조금밖에 섬기지 않았지만, 예후는 바알을 열성으로 섬길 것이다.	And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
19	이제 바알을 섬기는 예언자들과 사제들을 한 사람도 빠뜨리지 말고 불러오너라. 내가 곧 바알에게 성대한 제사를 드리리라. 무릇 이 제사에 빠지는 자는 살아 남지 못하리라." 예후는 바알 섬기는 자들을 박멸하려고 이런 계략을 썼던 것이다.	Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20	성회를 열어 바알을 예배하도록 하라는 예후의 지시를 따라 마침내 성회가 선포되었다.	And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
21	예후는 이스라엘 각지에 사람을 보냈다. 바알을 섬기는 자들이 한 사람도 남지 않고 모여들어 바알의 신전으로 들어가니, 이쪽 벽에서 저쪽 벽까지 가득 차게 되었다.	And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
22	예후는 의상 맡은 자에게 바알을 섬기는 자들이 입을 예복을 가져오라고 명하였다. 그가 그들이 입을 예복을 가져오자	And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
23	예후는 레갑의 아들 여호나답과 함께 바알의 신전 안으로 들어갔다. 그리고 모든 바알을 섬기는 자들에게 말하였다. "여기 이 자리에 당신들과 함께 야훼의 종이 한 사람이라도 있지 않은가 잘들 살펴보시오. 다만 바알을 섬기는 사람들만 있도록 하시오."	And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only.
24	이렇게 해서 그들은 희생제와 번제를 드리려고 안으로 들어갔다. 한편 예후는 신전 밖에 군인 팔십 명을 배치하고 일렀다. "이 바알의 무리들을 너희에게 맡긴다. 한 놈이라도 놓쳐서는 안 된다. 하나라도 놓치면 그 놓친 자가 대신 죽으리라."	And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25	번제를 다 드리고 나자 예후는 근위대와 장교들에게 명하였다. "안으로 들어가서 한 놈도 놓치지 말고 다 죽여라." 그리하여 근위대와 장교들이 들어가 무리를 모두 칼로 쳐죽였다. 이윽고 그들은 바알 신전의 지성소에까지 들어가	And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
26	바알 신전에 있던 목상들을 밖으로 꺼내다가 불에 태우고	And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
27	바알 제단을 부수며 신전을 헐어 변소를 만들었는데 그것이 오늘까지 그냥 남아 있다.	And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
28	예후의 이스라엘 통치 이렇게 하여 예후는 이스라엘에서 바알 숭배를 뿌리뽑았다.	Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
29	그러나 그는 이스라엘을 죄에 빠뜨린 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄만은 버리지 못하여 베델과 단에 세운 금송아지를 그대로 섬겼다.	Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth–el, and that were in Dan.
30	야훼께서 예후에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 내 마음에 들도록 일을 잘하였다. 나의 뜻대로 아합 가문을 잘 처치하였다. 그러므로 네 후손이 사 대에 이르기까지 이스라엘 왕위에 오르리라."	And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
31	그러나 예후는 이스라엘의 하느님 야훼의 법을 준수하는 데 성의를 다하지 못하였다. 그는 이스라엘을 죄에 빠뜨린 여로보암의 죄를 버리지 못하였다.	But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
32	이 때부터 야훼께서 이스라엘을 적에게 찢기게 하시니 하자엘이 이스라엘 국경을 사방에서 공격해 왔다.	In those days the Lord began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote them in all the coasts of Israel;
33	그는 요르단 강 동쪽 길르앗과 가드와 르우벤과 므나쎄 전지역, 아르논 계곡에 인접한 아로엘, 길르앗과 바산 지방을 공격하였다.	From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
34	예후가 용맹을 떨치며 무슨 일을 했는지 그 나머지 역사는 이스라엘 왕조실록에 기록되어 있다.	Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
35	예후는 세상을 떠나 선조들에게로 돌아가 사마리아에 안장되었고 그의 아들 여호아하즈가 뒤를 이어 왕위에 올랐다.	And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
36	예후는 사마리아에서 이십팔 년 동안 이스라엘을 다스렸다.	And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
