절	공동번역 개정판 (1999)	King James Version
1	사울의 마지막 불레셋 군이 이스라엘을 공격한 일이 있었다. 이스라엘 군은 불레셋 군에게 쫓겨 도망치다가 길보아 산에서 마구 쓰러져 갔다.	Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2	불레셋 군은 계속 사울과 그의 아들들을 추격하여 사울의 세 아들인 요나단, 아비나답, 말기수아를 쳐죽였다.	And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi–shua, the sons of Saul.
3	전세가 이미 다 기울어진 판에 사울마저 적의 화살에 맞아 부상당하고 말았다.	And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.
4	사울은 자기의 무기 당번에게 일렀다. "저 오랑캐들에게 붙잡혀 욕을 당할 수는 없다. 차라리 네가 칼을 뽑아 나를 찔러라." 그러나 무기 당번은 감히 칼을 뽑지 못하고 망설였다. 그러자 사울은 손수 칼을 뽑아 자결하였다.	Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5	사울이 죽는 것을 보고는 무기 당번도 자기 칼을 뽑아 자결하였다.	And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
6	사울과 세 아들은 이렇게 죽어갔다. 그와 함께 사울의 일족도 전멸하였다.	So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
7	이스라엘 군이 도주하고 사울 부자마저 전사하는 것을 보고 그 골짜기에 있던 이스라엘 사람들이 다 저희의 성읍들을 버리고 도망치자 불레셋 사람들이 거기에 와서 살게 되었다.	And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8	그 이튿날 불레셋 군은 길보아 산에 올라 죽은 군인들의 옷을 벗기다가 사울과 그의 아들들이 쓰러져 있는 것을 발견하였다.	And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9	그들은 사울의 옷을 벗기고 목을 자르고 무기를 거두어 불레셋 땅 방방곡곡에 보내어, 저희의 우상과 백성에게 기쁜 소식을 알렸다.	And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.
10	그리고 그의 무기는 저희의 신당에 보관하고 머리는 다곤 신전에 매달아 두었다.	And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
11	불레셋 군이 이렇게 사울을 처치했다는 소식이 야베스 길르앗 주민의 귀에 들어갔다.	And when all Jabesh–gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12	그러자 장정들이 모두 나서서 사울과 아들들의 시신을 야베스로 모셔다가 거기에 있는 느티나무 밑에 묻고 이레를 단식하며 슬퍼하였다.	They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13	사울이 죽은 것은 그가 야훼의 말씀을 따르지 않고 거역한 죄 때문이었다. 그는 신들린 자를 찾아가 물으면서도	So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;
14	야훼께는 여쭈어보지 않았던 것이다. 그리하여 야훼께서는 그를 죽이시고 이새의 아들 다윗에게 나라를 넘겨주셨다.	And enquired not of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
