1	고르넬리오가 본 영상 가이사리아에 고르넬리오라는 사람이 있었는데 그는 이탈리아 부대라는 로마 군대의 백인대장이었다.	There was a certain man in Cesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2	그는 경건한 사람이어서 온 가족과 함께 하느님을 공경하고 유다인들에게 많은 자선을 베풀며 하느님께 늘 기도를 드리고 있었다.	A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
3	어느 날 오후 세 시쯤 그는 신비로운 영상 가운데 나타난 하느님의 천사를 똑똑히 보았다. 천사는 집에 들어와서 "고르넬리오!" 하고 불렀다.	He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4	그는 천사를 바라보자 겁에 질려서 "주님, 무슨 일이십니까?" 하고 물었다. 천사는 "하느님께서 너의 기도와 자선을 받아들이시고 너를 기억하고 계신다.	And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5	이제 사람을 요빠로 보내어 베드로라고도 하는 시몬을 데려오너라.	And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6	베드로는 바닷가에 있는 피장이 시몬의 집에 머물고 있다." 하고 일러주었다.	He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7	천사가 이 말을 남기고 사라지자 고르넬리오는 하인 두 사람과 가까이 데리고 있는 경건한 병사 하나를 불러서	And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
8	모든 일을 다 이야기해 준 다음 요빠로 보냈다.	And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
9	베드로가 본 영상 길을 가던 일행이 그 이튿날 요빠 근처에 이르렀을 즈음에 베드로는 기도를 드리러 옥상에 올라가 있었다. 때는 낮 열두 시쯤이었다.	On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10	아래서는 점심을 준비하고 있었는데 베드로는 시장기가 들어 무엇을 좀 먹었으면 하는 생각을 하다가 무아지경에 빠져 들어갔다.	And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11	그러자 하늘이 열리고 큰 보자기와 같은 그릇이 네 귀퉁이에 끈이 달려서 땅으로 내려오는 것이 보였다.	And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12	그 속에는 온갖 네 발 가진 짐승과 땅을 기어 다니는 짐승과 하늘의 날짐승이 들어 있었다.	Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13	그 때 "베드로야, 어서 잡아먹어라." 하는 음성이 들려왔다.	And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14	베드로가 "절대로 안 됩니다, 주님. 저는 일찍이 속된 것이나 더러운 것은 한 번도 입에 대어본 적이 없습니다." 하고 대답하자	But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15	"하느님께서 깨끗하게 만드신 것을 속되다고 하지 마라." 하는 음성이 다시 들려왔다.	And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
16	이와 같은 말이 세 번 오고 간 뒤에 그 그릇은 갑자기 하늘로 들려 올라갔다.	This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
17	베드로와 고르넬리오의 대면 베드로는 자기가 본 영상이 도대체 무슨 뜻일까 하고 혼자 어리둥절해 있었는데 마침 고르넬리오가 보낸 사람들이 시몬의 집을 찾아와 문 앞에 서 있었다.	Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,
18	그들은 사람을 불러내어 베드로라는 시몬이 거기에 머물러 있는지 물어보았다.	And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19	베드로는 아직도 자기가 본 일을 곰곰이 생각하고 있었는데 성령께서 베드로에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "지금 사람들이 와서 너를 찾고 있으니	While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20	어서 내려가서 주저하지 말고 그들과 함께 가거라. 그들은 내가 보낸 사람들이다."	Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21	베드로가 그들에게 내려가서 "당신들이 찾고 있는 사람이 바로 나요. 어떻게 오셨소?" 하고 묻자	Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22	그들은 "고르넬리오라는 백인대장의 심부름으로 왔습니다. 그는 의로운 사람이며 하느님을 공경하며 모든 유다인에게 존경을 받고 있습니다. 그는 거룩한 천사에게서 선생님을 집에 모셔다가 말씀을 들으라는 지시를 받고 우리를 보낸 것입니다." 하고 대답하였다.	And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23	베드로는 그들을 맞아들여 그 날 밤을 거기에서 묵게 했다. 이튿날 베드로는 채비를 차리고 그들과 함께 길을 떠났는데 요빠에 있는 몇몇 신도도 같이 갔다.	Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
24	그 다음날 베드로가 가이사리아에 도착하자 고르넬리오는 자기 친척들과 가까운 친구들을 불러놓고 베드로의 일행을 기다리고 있다가	And the morrow after they entered into Cesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
25	베드로가 들어온다는 소리를 듣고 급히 마중을 나가 그 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 절하였다.	And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.
26	그러자 베드로는 그를 일으켜 세우며 "일어나십시오. 나도 역시 사람입니다." 하고 말하였다.	But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
27	그리고 고르넬리오와 함께 이야기하면서 집으로 들어갔다. 많은 사람이 거기에 모여 있는 것을 보고	And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
28	베드로는 그들에게 이렇게 말하였다. "잘 아시다시피 유다인은 이방인과 어울리거나 찾아 다니지 못하게 되어 있습니다. 그러나 하느님께서는 나에게 어떤 사람이라도 속되거나 불결하게 여기지 말라고 이르셨습니다.	And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
29	그래서 사람들이 나를 부르러 왔을 때에 나는 거절하지 않고 따라왔습니다. 그런데 무슨 일로 나를 오라고 하셨습니까?"	Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
30	고르넬리오는 이렇게 대답하였다. "나흘 전 이맘때쯤 나는 집에서 오후 세시 기도를 드리고 있었습니다. 그 때 갑자기 눈부신 옷을 입은 사람이 앞에 나타나	And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31	'고르넬리오야, 하느님께서 네 기도를 들어주셨고 네 자선을 기억하고 계신다.	And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32	그러니 요빠로 사람을 보내어 베드로라는 시몬을 불러오도록 하여라. 그 사람은 바닷가에 있는 피장이 시몬의 집에 머물고 있다.' 하고 말했습니다.	Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33	그래서 저는 곧 선생님께 사람을 보냈던 것인데 참 잘 와주셨습니다. 지금 우리는 주께서 선생님께 지시하신 모든 말씀을 들으려고 다 같이 하느님 앞에 모였습니다."	Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
34	고르넬리오의 집에서 전도한 베드로 베드로는 이렇게 말을 시작하였다. "나는 하느님께서 사람을 차별대우하지 않으시고	Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
35	당신을 두려워하며 올바르게 사는 사람이면 어느 나라 사람이든지 다 받아주신다는 사실을 깨달았습니다.	But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
36	하느님께서는 이스라엘 백성에게 당신의 말씀을 전해 주셨는데 그것은 만민의 주 예수 그리스도를 시켜 선포하신 평화의 복음입니다.	The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
37	이것은 여러분도 알다시피 요한이 세례를 선포한 이래 갈릴래아에서 비롯하여 온 유다 지방에 걸쳐서 일어났던	That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
38	나자렛 예수에 관한 일들입니다. 하느님께서는 그분에게 성령과 능력을 부어주시고 그분과 함께 계셨습니다. 그래서 그분은 두루 다니시며 좋은 일을 해주시고 악마에게 짓눌린 사람들을 모두 고쳐주셨습니다.	How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
39	우리는 예수께서 유다 지방과 예루살렘에서 행하신 모든 일을 목격한 사람입니다. 사람들이 그분을 십자가에 달아 죽였지만	And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
40	하느님께서는 그분을 사흘 만에 다시 살리시고 우리에게 나타나게 하셨습니다.	Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
41	그분은 모든 사람에게 나타나신 것이 아니라 하느님께서 증인으로 미리 택하신 우리에게 나타나셨습니다. 그분이 죽었다가 다시 살아나신 뒤에 우리는 그분과 함께 먹기도 하고 마시기도 하였습니다.	Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
42	그분은 우리에게 하느님께서 자기를 산 이들과 죽은 이들의 심판자로 정하셨다는 것을 사람들에게 선포하고 증언하라고 분부하셨습니다.	And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
43	모든 예언자들도 이 예수를 믿는 사람은 누구든지 그분의 이름으로 죄를 용서받을 수 있다고 증언하였습니다."	To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44	성령을 받은 이방인들 베드로가 이렇게 말하고 있는 동안에 성령이 모든 청중에게 내려오셨다.	While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45	신자가 된 유다인으로서 베드로와 함께 왔던 사람들은 성령의 은혜가 이방인들에게까지 내리시는 것을 보고 깜짝 놀랐다.	And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46	그것은 이방인들도 기이한 언어로 말하며 하느님을 높이 찬양하는 것을 들었기 때문이다. 그 때 베드로가	For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47	"이 사람들도 우리처럼 성령을 받았으니 이들이 물로 세례를 받는 것을 어떻게 막을 수 있겠습니까?" 하며	Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48	예수 그리스도의 이름으로 세례를 받으라고 일렀다. 그들은 베드로에게 자기들과 함께 며칠 더 머물러달라고 간청하였다.	And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
