| 1 | イエスがキリストであることを信じる者はだれでも，神から生まれた者です。父を愛している者はだれでも，その者から生まれた子供をも愛しています。 | Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. |
| 2 | わたしたちが神を愛し，そのおきてを守っているなら，これによってわたしたちは，自分が神の子らを愛していることを知ります。 | By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. |
| 3 | というのは，わたしたちがそのおきてを守ること，これが神への愛だからです。そのおきてはつらいものではありません。 | For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. |
| 4 | 神から生まれたものはみな，世に打ち勝ちます。世に打ち勝ったその勝利，それはすなわち，あなた方の信仰のことです。 | For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. |
| 5 | 世に打ち勝った者とは，イエスが神の子であることを信じる者以外のだれでしょう。 | Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? |
| 6 | この方こそ水と血によって来られた方，イエス・キリストです。水だけではなく，水と血とをもって来られたのです。証言するのは霊です。霊は真理だからです。 | This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. |
| 7 | 証言する者が三人います。すなわち | For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. |
| 8 | 霊，水，血であり，三者は一致しています。 | And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. |
| 9 | 人の証言を受け入れるとしても，神の証言のほうが偉大です。その方がご自分のみ子に関して証言されたこと，それが神の証言だからです。 | If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. |
| 10 | 神のみ子を信じる者は自分の内にこの証言を持っています。神を信じない者は，その方を偽り者としています。神がご自分のみ子に関して与えられた証言を信じなかったからです。 | He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. |

| 14 | もしわたしたちがその方のご意志に従って何かを求めるなら，その方はわたしたちに耳を傾けてくださるということ，これがわたしたちがその方に対して抱いている大胆さです。 | And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: |
| 15 | そして，自分たちの求めることは何でもその方が耳を傾けてくださることをわたしたちが知っているのであれば，自分たちがその方に求めたその請願をわたしたちがすでに受けていることも知っているのです。 | And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. |
| 16 | もしだれかが，死に至らない罪を犯している自分の兄弟を見るなら，その人は求めなさい。そうすれば神はその人に，死に至らない罪を犯す者のために命を与えられるでしょう。死に至る罪があります。これについては，わたしは願うようにとは言いません。 | If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. |
| 17 | 不義はすべて罪です。しかし，死に至らない罪もあります。 | All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. |
| 18 | わたしたちは，すべて神から生まれた者は罪を犯すことがなく，むしろ神から生まれた方がその人を守ってくださり，悪い者はその人に触れることがないことを知っています。 | We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. |
| 19 | わたしたちは自分が神に属しており，全世界が悪い者の力のうちに置かれていることを知っています。 | And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. |
| 20 | わたしたちは，神のみ子が来て，わたしたちが真実な方を知るための理解力を与えてくださったことを知っています。そして，わたしたちは真実な方の内に，その方のみ子イエス・キリストの内にいます。この方こそ真実の神，また永遠の命です。 | And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. |
| 21 | 小さな子供たちよ，偶像から身を守りなさい。 | Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. |
