| 1 | 長老から，選ばれた婦人と彼女の子供たち，すなわち，わたしが真実に愛しており，わたしだけではなく，真理を知っているすべての者たちも愛している者たちへ。 | The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; |
| 2 | それは，わたしたちのうちにとどまっている真理のためであり，その真理は永遠にわたしたちと共にあるでしょう。 | For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. |
| 3 | 父なる神から，また父のみ子である主イエス・キリストから，恵みとあわれみと平和が，真理と愛のうちにわたしたちと共にあるでしょう。 | Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. |
| 4 | わたしたちが父から命じられたとおりに，あなたの子供たちの何人かが真理のうちを歩んでいるのを知って，わたしは大いに喜んでいます。 | I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. |
| 5 | 婦人よ，わたしは今あなたに頼みます。新しいおきてをあなたに書き送るわけではなく，わたしたちがはじめから持っていたおきてなのですが，わたしたちが互いに愛し合うことです。 | And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. |

| 7 | 多くの欺く者たちが世に入って来ているからです。それは，イエス・キリストが肉体で来られたことを告白しない者たちです。これこそ欺く者また反キリストです。 | For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. |
| 8 | わたしたちが，自分たちの成し遂げてきた事柄を失うことなく，豊かな報いを受けられるよう，自分に気を付けなさい。 | Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. |
| 9 | だれでも罪を犯してキリストの教えにとどまっていないものは，神を持っていません。その教えにとどまっている者は，父もみ子も持っています。 | Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. |
| 10 | だれかがあなた方のところに来ても，この教えを持っていないなら，彼をあなた方の家に迎え入れてはならず，彼を歓迎してもなりません。 | If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: |
| 11 | 彼を歓迎する者は，彼の悪い業に加わっているからです。 | For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. |
| 12 | あなた方に書き送る事柄は多くありますが，紙とインクでそうしたいとは思いません。むしろ，わたしはあなた方のところに行って，面と向かって話すことを望んでいます。わたしたちの喜びが満ちあふれるようになるためです。 | Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. |
| 13 | あなた方の選ばれた姉妹たちの子供たちがあなた方によろしくと言っています。アーメン。 | The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen. |
