| 1 | たとひ我もろもろの國人の言および御使の言を語るとも、愛なくば鳴る鐘や響く鐃鈸の如し。 | Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. |
| 2 | 假令われ預言する能力あり、又すべての奧義と凡ての知識とに達し、また山を移すほどの大なる信仰ありとも、愛なくば數ふるに足らず。 | And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. |
| 3 | たとひ我わが財産をことごとく施し、又わが體を燒かるる爲に付すとも、愛なくば我に益なし。 | And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. |
| 4 | 愛は寛容にして慈悲あり。愛は妬まず、愛は誇らず、驕らず、 | Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, |
| 5 | 非禮を行はず、己の利を求めず、憤ほらず、人の惡を念はず、 | Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; |
| 6 | 不義を喜ばずして、眞理の喜ぶところを喜び、 | Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; |
| 7 | 凡そ事 忍び、おほよそ事 信じ、おほよそ事 望み、おほよそ事 耐ふるなり。 | Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. |
| 8 | 愛は長久までも絶ゆることなし。然れど預言は廢れ、異言は止み、知識もまた廢らん。 | Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. |
| 9 | それ我らの知るところ全からず、我らの預言も全からず。 | For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. |
| 10 | 全き者の來らん時は全からぬもの廢らん。 | But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. |
| 11 | われ童子の時は語ることも童子のごとく、思ふことも童子の如く、論ずる事も童子の如くなりしが、人と成りては童子のことを棄てたり。 | When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. |
| 12 | 今われらは鏡をもて見るごとく見るところ朧なり。然れど、かの時には顏を對せて相 見ん。今わが知るところ全からず、然れど、かの時には我が知られたる如く全く知るべし。 | For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. |
| 13 | げに信仰と希望と愛と此の三つの者は限りなく存らん、而して其のうち最も大なるは愛なり。 | And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. |
