| 1 | 作長老 的寫信給蒙揀選的 太太（或譯：教會；下同）和 她的 兒女，就是 我 誠心 所愛的； 不但 我愛， 也是 一切 知道 真理之人所愛的。 | The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; |
| 2 | 愛你們是為真理 的緣故，這 真理存在 我們 裡面，也 必 永遠 與我們 同在。 | For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. |
| 3 | 恩惠、憐憫、平安 從 父 神 和 他 兒子 耶穌 基督 在 真理 和 愛心 上必 常與我們 同在！ | Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. |
| 4 | 我見 你 的兒女，有照 我們從 父 所受 之命令 遵行 真理的，就甚 歡喜。 | I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. |
| 5 | 太太啊，我現在 勸 你， 我們大家要彼此 相愛。這並不是 我寫 一條新 命令 給你，乃是 我們從 起初 所受的命令。 | And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. |
| 6 | 我們若照 他 的命令 行， 這 就是 愛。 你們從 起初 所 聽見 當行的，就是 這 命令。 | And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. |
| 7 | 因為 世上 有許多 迷惑人的 出來，他們 不 認 耶穌 基督 是成了 肉身 來的；這 就是 那迷惑人、 敵基督的。 | For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. |
| 8 | 你們 要小心，不要 失去你們（有古卷：我們）所做的工，乃要 得著 滿足的 賞賜。 | Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. |
| 9 | 凡 越過 基督 的教訓 不 常守著的，就沒 有 神；常守 這教訓的， 就有 父 又有 子。 | Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. |
| 10 | 若 有人 到 你們那裡， 不是 傳 這 教訓，不要 接 他 到 家裡，也不要 問 他 的安； | If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: |
| 11 | 因為 問 他 安的，就在他的 惡 行 上有分。 | For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. |
| 12 | 我還有 許多事 要寫 給你們，卻不 願意 用 紙 墨寫出來，但 盼望 到 你們那裡， 與你們當面 談論，使 你們 的喜樂 滿足。 | Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. |
| 13 | 你 那蒙揀選之 姊妹 的兒女 都問你 安。 | The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen. |
