| 1 | 耶和華 的話 臨 到 亞米太 的兒子 約拿，說： | Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, |
| 2 | 「你起來 往 尼尼微 大 城 去，向 其中的居民呼喊，因為 他們的惡 達到 我面前。」 | Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. |
| 3 | 約拿 卻起來，逃 往他施 去躲避 耶和華；下到 約帕，遇見 一隻船，要往 他施去。他就給了 船價，上了 船，要與船上的人同 往 他施去 躲避 耶和華。 | But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. |
| 4 | 然而耶和華 使 海中 起大 風，海 就狂風 大 作，甚至船 幾乎 破壞。 | But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. |
| 5 | 水手 便懼怕，各人 哀求 自己的神。他們將 船上的 貨物 拋 在 海中，為要 使船輕些。約拿 已下 到 底 艙，躺臥 沉睡。 | Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep. |

| 8 | 眾人對他 說：「請 你告訴 我們，這 災 臨到我們 是因誰 的緣故？你以何事 為業？你從哪裡 來？你是 哪 一國？ 屬哪 一族的人？」 | Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou? |
| 9 | 他說：「我是 希伯來人。我 敬畏 耶和華─那 創造 滄海 旱地 之天上的 神。」 | And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land. |
| 10 | 他們 就大大 懼怕，對他 說：「你做 的是甚麼 事呢？」 他們 已經知道 他 躲避 耶和華，因為 他告訴了 他們。 | Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them. |
| 11 | 他們問他 說：「我們當向你 怎樣 行，使海浪 平靜呢？」這話是因 海浪 越發 翻騰。 | Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous. |
| 12 | 他對他們 說：「你們將我抬起來，拋 在 海中，海 就平靜了； 我 知道 你們遭 這 大 風 是因我的緣故。」 | And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you. |
| 13 | 然而那些人 竭力盪槳，要把船攏 岸，卻是不 能，因為 海浪 越發 向他們 翻騰。 | Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. |
| 14 | 他們便求告 耶和華 說：「耶和華啊，我們懇求你，不要 因這 人 的性命 使我們死亡，不要 使 流無辜 血 的罪歸與我們；因為 你─耶和華 是隨 自己的意旨 行事。」 | Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee. |
| 15 | 他們遂將 約拿 抬起，拋 在 海中，海 的狂浪 就平息了。 | So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. |
| 16 | 那些人 便大大 敬畏 耶和華，向耶和華 獻 祭，並且許 願。 | Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows. |
| 17 | 耶和華 安排 一條大 魚 吞了 約拿， 他 在魚 腹中 三 日 三 夜。 | Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. |
