| 1 | 「人 若 想要 得監督的職分，就是羨慕 善 工。」這話 是可信的。 | This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. |
| 2 | 作監督的， 必須 無可指責，只作一個 婦人 的丈夫，有節制，自守，端正，樂意接待遠人，善於教導； | A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; |
| 3 | 不 因酒滋事，不 打人，只要 溫和，不爭競，不貪財； | Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; |
| 4 | 好好 管理 自己的 家，使 兒女 凡事 端莊 順服（或譯：端端莊莊地使兒女順服）。 | One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; |
| 5 | 人 若 不 知道 管理 自己的 家，焉能 照管 神的 教會呢？ | (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) |
| 6 | 初入教的 不可作監督，恐怕 他自高自大，就落 在魔鬼 所受的刑罰 裡。 | Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. |
| 7 | 監督也 必須 在教外有 好 名聲，恐怕 被人毀謗， 落 在魔鬼 的網羅 裡。 | Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. |
| 8 | 作執事的，也是如此：必須端莊，不 一口兩舌，不 好 喝酒，不 貪不義之財； | Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; |
| 9 | 要存 清潔的 良心，固守 真道 的奧祕。 | Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. |
| 10 | 這等人 也要 先 受試驗，若 沒有可責之處，然後 叫他們作執事。 | And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. |
| 11 | 女執事（原文是女人）也是如此：必須端莊，不 說讒言，有節制， 凡事 忠心。 | Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. |
| 12 | 執事 只要作 一個 婦人 的丈夫，好好 管理 兒女 和 自己的 家。 | Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. |
| 13 | 因為 善 作執事的，自己 就得到 美好的 地步，並且 在 基督 耶穌 裡 的真道 上 大 有膽量。 | For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
| 14 | 我指望 快 到 你 那裡去，所以先將這些事 寫給 你。 | These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: |
| 15 | 倘 若 我耽延日久， 你也可以知道在 神的 家 中 當 怎樣 行。這 家就是 永生 神 的教會，真理 的柱石 和 根基。 | But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. |
| 16 | 大哉， 敬虔 的奧祕，無人不以為然！就是 神在 肉身 顯現，被 聖靈 稱義（或譯：在靈性稱義），被天使 看見，被傳 於 外邦，被 世人 信服，被接 在榮耀 裡。 | And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. |
