1 亞當與婦夏娃同室、懷姙生該隱、曰、耶和華使我得男、 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2 又生其弟亞伯、亞伯爲牧、該隱爲農、 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 厥後、該隱以土所產奉耶和華、 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4 亞伯亦奉以首生之羊與脂、耶和華眷顧亞伯、與其祭品、 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 而不眷顧該隱、與其祭品、該隱盛怒變色、 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 耶和華曰、爾怒奚爲、變色曷故、 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 苟爾行善、豈不懽顏、苟行不善、孽伏於門、彼必戀爾、爾其制之、 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 該隱以告弟亞伯、在於田間、攻而殺之、○ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 耶和華謂該隱曰、爾弟亞伯安在、曰、不知、我豈防守我弟者乎、 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
10 曰、爾何爲耶、汝弟之血有聲、自地籲我、 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 今地啟口、由於爾手、以受汝弟之血、爾必由地見詛、 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
12 汝耕田、地不復効力、爾必流離於地、 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 該隱謂耶和華曰、我刑之重、實所不堪、 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 爾今逐我、俾離斯土、不復覿爾面、流離於地、遇我者必殺我、 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 耶和華曰、凡殺該隱者、受罰七倍、乃賜以表記、免遇之者擊之、○ And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 該隱離耶和華前、往伊甸東挪得地居焉、 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17 該隱與妻同室、懷姙生以諾、建城、卽以其子之名、稱爲以諾、 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 以諾生以拿、以拿生米戶雅利、米戶雅利生瑪土撒利、瑪土撒利生拉麥、 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19 拉麥娶妻二、一名亞大、一名洗拉、 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 亞大生雅八、爲居幕牧畜者祖、 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 其弟猶八、爲鼓琴品簫者祖、 And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22 洗拉生土八該隱、乃造銅鐵諸利器者祖、其妹名拿瑪、 And Zillah, she also bare Tubal–cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal–cain was Naamah.
23 拉麥謂妻曰、亞大洗拉歟、其聞我聲、拉麥之婦歟、其聽我言、人害我、我殺之、少者傷我、我戮之、 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24 若殺該隱、受罰七倍、若殺拉麥、必受罰七十七倍、○ If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 亞當復與妻同室、生子命名塞特、曰、上帝爲我立一子、以代亞伯、因其爲該隱所殺也、 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 塞特亦生子、命名以挪士、是時人始籲耶和華之名、 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
